If you quit EVE

xBludxxBludx Member Posts: 376

Where will you go? Is there another game world out there?

I never got into EVE, but I followed this game because I like what it stands/stood for = freedom. At least that's my understanding of why EVE players were so committed to this game.

I am really interested to see how this turns out because I think there is a potential for any mass exodus of EVE players to have a serious impact on all MMOs now and in the future - especially if whole corps leave, especially if they stay together.

EVE players, if you leave, where will you go now?

    They want to sell convenience.
In other words, they'll design Eve with inconvenience in mind to charge for convenience extra.

That and the bazillions of other reasons why the notion of mt in a subscription game is retarded.

    On topic:
I'm playing Arma2 (online) and Wurm Online. Might dabble in Fallen Earth a bit.
I've also increased my logged hours in Civ5 by 200 hours since i quit Eve some time ago.

What your kidding? With the way EVE is set up with the player economy and everything that would totally ruin it.... Inflation, less sales on actual items people are selling for ISk because people would buy them with cash.. That would totally kill EVE.......

Ughhh guess I am back to waiting for SWTOR. I am so sick of this BS, I am at the point of just no longer playing MMOs...

While I hate some of the decisions that CCP has made (the main one being the existance of PLEX), I won't be leaving the game.

It's too real.  There's nothing else like it.

If I had to guess, I would say that some players who are quitting over this may try out Perpetuum or Fallen Earth.  Both games have similar systems and have some sandbox play.  I still don't think there will be a mass exodus, but I think depending on what happens with RMT, quite a few players could leave.  I personally don't give two craps about some monocle for sale, but I sure as hell don't want standings or ships being sold for real cash.

Btw., a bunch of vets have been playing on serenity.
But you know as well as everyone else that Eve leaves a hole, because there is nothing like it. Makes it all the harder to just quit, but you can assume that everyone who does it really pissed off.

Luckily Arma2 does provide the small gang warfare feel that was completely lost in Eve after Dominion anyway. And then there's WoT.

And I already know I'm going to play the heck out of the X series reboot.

I cancelled my accounts for the time being. I am gonna wait for Archage MMO wise for the game that I will give a shit about. I will play TOR for a bit and Definitly GW2 when they come out just to try them out. (kinda stoked for GW2...we'll see)

For what will replace EvE? Nothing out or coming out really can. If Archage sucks I will prolly buy a Wii and say fuck it and retire MMO games to the "Things I used to do in the past" closet with the hockey sticks and monopoly board.

Hopefully CCP gives themself a supersized enema and EvE stays Eve.

Probably gonna try skyrim when it comes out. Just graduated from a 4.5 year course in  computing/game design so I might not have time for MMO and would like to do some stuff with the modding tools.

Guild wars 2, perpetuum, WoW (I don't hate it, aside from class based system, and a lot of friends play it).

    Into the breach meatbags

I still don't get the drama involved in all this.  I play EVE, I'm not upset, because I guess, I don't care.

Times are changing folks.  All MMOs seem to be going the whole "Freemium" format, or some kind of strapped on cash shop.  (even the might WoW will sell ya a reskinned flying creature for $25.. on top of your monthly sub.)

I guess I looik at EVE like this.    There are people who already have a 6 year SP advantage on me.  What the hell do I care if people want to waste RL money to basically do the same thing?   If CCP makes more money, they produce more content, speed up development, etc.

If people want to "Pay to Win" as the argument seems to be here, ok, so what?  At this point, anybody starting EVE or who hasn't played since release is already at a disadvantage, so who's complaining?   the 7 year+ vets afraid to lose 'god mode'?  The new people who can never catch up?   I mean really, i don't get it.

OH... And let's all remember to freak out over something that is not even OFFICIALLY planned or committed yet for the game!

Besides, the whole "Protest in Jita" B.S.  sure, laughable, cute, but about as cute as the 4 year old screaming at his mom in the department store for not buying him an action figure.

I just don't get it, it's like people just need something to bitch about.

So since SWG is finally being taken behind the shed for its bullet to the face, now EVE will be the bitching post for MMO players??

This was a good line. Thanks for that.

From what I understand and from what people have said, there is no way to replace EVE. I just want to know where people will go and I'd be interested to know what people think about how EVE has affected MMOs (in any way you care to explore the issue from tech, to world, to players, etc.) and how EVE will affect the evolution of MMOs in future.

So not interested in the why of people threatening to leave EVE (in this thread), but only where will they go. What will be the result of the current controversy  -- in the immediate future and in future?

    Where am I going?

In reality I am going no where, just changing the pace a bit. I unsubbed today as a show of solidarity in light of all the leaked info that I read today. CCP Zulu's arrogant response helped it a bit as well.

I have a ton of offline stuff I can catch up on. If I do need to fullfill my need to play a space cowboy I will play a small, unkown indie game called Evochron Mercenary. Its a twitch game with a big open universe. There is a free multiplayer server with a very helpful community.

I am going to miss my corp and the alliance though. They have a good thing going.

I was just so infuriated by the way "Fearless" layed out the plan to suck EVE, DUST and WoD players dry. The same community that put EVE on the map and paid for salaries, allowing them to grow as they did.

But I will tell you one thing, I am going to play Skyrim this fall and there is little that CCP can do to stop that.

Whatever they do after they quit, I hope they don't go into business or economics.

They will stay right where they are, in EVE, after they realize that everything is perfectly fine.   I don't know of any similar experience type of game out there.   So those who leave EVE may end up in console or single player game land maybe, but in terms of MMOs, I can't see where there would be a good 'fall back' option for former players.

People keep leaving out that Fearless: Greed is Good? (<<<YES, the title of the article has a question mark)  was a presentation of opinions about how different business models would affect a game. The gusy who created the article are paid by CCP to develop these topics and bring about discussion. It's nothing more than a company editorial.

But the Eve community sure displayed its colors and pretty much told everyone that they are not as 'cut above other mmo communities' as they proclaimed. This is what I am truly ashamed of...

It's certainly too early to really tell if EVE has been negatively or positively impacted, as almost any subscriptions canceled would not have yet expired, but I think it is at least noteworthy that there are more online accounts today than there were last week, albiet only by about 2.5k.

I'll give WoW another shot for some lulz since 4.2 is just about to be released and I kinda like what I've read about it so far. I'll also dabble some more with LOTRO since I can play that for free and the upcomming Isengard expansion sounds pretty decent as well. A heavily modded X3 Terran conflict will have to do in terms of getting my space fix. Oh, and then there's always Rise of Flight... Minecraft... Terraria.... Mount & Blade... Civilization... Total War Shogun... StarCraft II... and a truckload of Warhammer miniatures that I have to paint. Frankly, I'm not sure I'll miss EVE when I think about it image

I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Perpetuum is a great alternative to EVE. No doubt everyone is waiting for TOR though.
