I havent played in a while, was curious if they ever did anything to address all the cheating.

Sort of. They never did anything from a technical perspective to prevent the many hacks that are possible. The game is a lame duck and has been for years.
What they did do is end the endless free trial program which has had the effect of nearly eliminating all the obvious hackers since now it is their main accounts that will get banned and not a free trial account. Unfortunately, the core game code remains as vulnerable as ever and I’m pretty sure there are still plenty of people using the more subtle hacks that SOE has no ability or commitment to detect and punish.
