Vanguard, DAOC, and Ultima online they were all before my gaming time. So if they had a strong player base id jump into them i have heard great things on all of them. Other than they are either outta date or the company sucks.
I have absolutely no idea why Neocron was such a failure to have such an insignificant population. It was actually really awesome. Cyberpunk, crafting implants, a hacking mini-game AND an eventual implementation of the matrix--- what gives?
I don't play MMORPGs to play with other people. I'm a very unique individual and it's hard to find people that I actually enjoy their company, especially while gaming. So, if I am to play an MMORPG, it has to be with real life friends playing with me. If I have enough friends to play with me, then I don't care how the population of an MMO is. It has no affect on my enjoyment of the game. Actually, it kind of does. It's better because I don't have a bunch of morons ruining my experience, but it's a little worse due to auction house items being too few with a low population, so it evens out anyway.

'I am a very unique individual' reminds me of those ppl who say 'I don't suffer fools gladly'. It can generally be translated as i have few social graces and am kinda rude. But fair play for wanting to enjoy your games with your real life mates.

Planetside 2 in development.
Never tried the other 2.

How many people are playing has no bearing on whether I play or not.

If the community is nice then the number really should not matter but that is just my opinion.

Marketing failure? Never heard of Neocron before.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

vangaurd, but if it was f2p i'd be playing it
Agreed, to an exent. If a game had literally 50 users and an empty auction house/economy I might shy away from it.
I've been playing Vanguard for about a month now though and loving it. Good games tend to be fun regardless of the population size I find.
Yep Vanguard.
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
Hope SOE are paying attention...

vanguard saga of heroes
Hell, this thread brought the nostalgia back. Re-downloading Vanguard as I type this. Time to give the old girl a try again...
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
lineage2,
played it for 6 years..recenetly returned and realized how dead it was
pretty sad =/
Vanguard, course they'd need to fix it up a bit.
Refugee from UO,EQ,AC,AC2,AO,DAOC,L2,SB,HZ,CoH,PT,EQ2,WoW,VG,SWG,EVE,WAR,DF,MO,AI,GA,LOTRO, SWTOR... Gw2 on Deck

MMO's I would be playing if more people played them:
- Vendetta Online
- Dransik/Ashen Empires if it had proper development
- Vanguard if it had proper development
- Helbreath might be a good game but it's impossible to tell since no one plays it
- Istaria would be worth another shot as well
- Shadowbane, if it had any players at all
Fallen Earth.
I will be interested to see how the population goes when the F2P option launches in a few months.
none. I play games that interest me regardless of how many people play.
Otherwise I'm letting the decisions of others make my choices.
And that's just plain nutty.
