Me and some friends tried the EQ2X client and found it too limited so we've moved over to the trial for Live. We're thinking about subbing but have some questions about how the raiding works here. Is it still tiered where you need to do old content first before hitting the new content, or did expansions ruin the progression like they did with World of Warcraft?

There may be access quests for some raid zones, but as far as I know, for the most part you don't have to do most of (if any) in a certain order.
I only have some (mostly lower lvl(before 80) raiding experience, so I'm not the best to ask.
There are some guilds called "Progression Raid Guilds" that follow an order for raiding to the letter. Also, you do kind of have to have gear from a previous tiers at a certain point I think in order to be able to survive higher level raids...
Here is an interesting list for you, if you were interested in Progression :

I talked to some folks in-game who claim that only the 90 content is relevant. That's fine I guess as I'm really only a casual player these days, I'm guessing this is probably the best PVE game at the moment in the EQ format, considering that it's EQ.
We like it so far as long as the content is enjoyable and the game isn't totally dead it should be worth getting into.

If you and your friends would like, join us on Antonia Bayle. We started a casual guild of players not even a month ago. We have a lot of players from mmorpg.com starting over or returning after a long time.
The guild is called Night Watch. Daily grouping on lower levels, weekly guild events and plenty of friends to have fun with.
Absolutely no level rush to the top areas. We believe that the real fun is hidden in discovering content with people together, not only chasing after numbers.
If you feel you could enjoy our laid-back casual approach, you can find out more in our post here:
