I think a lot of people are over praising GW2 way too much. They are making changes to the normal MMO design but it's not enough of a change to warrent this much attention. I saw the same things happen with WAR, AOC, Aion and Rift. People over hype and over praise the game to craze and then it doesn't live up to expectations then the game just sucks. The only key difference between GW2 and other MMOs is that there is no reason for people to drop off after the first month cause there is no sub fee. People will still play it past the first month and probably longer then that cause there is no reason for people to stop playing.

I encourage a healthy amount of skepticism. Rift to me is a classic example of an overhyped game. You really couldn't find gameplay footage on the internet before the December before release. Everybody kept saying things like these trailers looked awesome, but they really showed no gameplay whatsoever. Rift is a game where you can pretty much describe it as "WoW+this, this and this." Then I really start running out of things that they've done differently. I think putting an NDA was the smartest thing they could have done, to keep people from letting others know about the lack of leveling paths, tiny cities, and endless kill X quests. I think the first thread I started on this site was titled "Don't Believe the Hype." I didn't mention Rift by name, but it was the game I was thinking of when I wrote it.
In other words, it was obvious, at least to me, based on the lack of footage and the available footage looking bad, that Rift was going to be a mediocre game. I think people in general are too swayed by hype. Not saying SWTOR is going to be a bad game at all, but their cinematic trailers have 650k views, but their "top 10 reasons to be interested" video has 40k. People are going to buy it and then see whether the gameplay lives up to their expectations, rather than the other way around.
GW2 on the other hand, well, let's start with this quote from Colin Johanson, lead content designer.
...all the information we release, we try to make sure that what we’re talking about is in the game, it’s working, and it does the things that we want it to do before we come out and we talk about it. I think this day and age MMO gamers have been made sort of jaded by MMO developers, where they hear all these great things that people want to do, and for whatever reason, oftentimes they don’t have time to do all of it. The things that people say they’re going to do, they don’t end up being able to do as well as they wanted to, or they don’t end up being able to do at all, and we don’t want to be the kind of company that does that.
It's a great quote, but we're not interested in GW2 just based on this, or on the manifesto trailer, or any other hype. It's that we've actually seen all this stuff in the demos. We've seen unbroken hour long footage of people just wandering around. We've seen multiple zones, several dynamic events, the beginnings of two personal stories. We haven't seen great dungeon footage, but we've read journalists who went on 3 hour wipefests in one of them and called them amazing experiences. We haven't seen PVP yet but they've described it and we'll know this month whether it's for real. People have played all 7 of the released classes. Underwater combat works exactly as advertised.
Last year at Gamescom, imho, GW2's gameplay already looked a lot better than Rift's. Rift released 6 months later, GW2 looks like it might take an entire extra year more than Rift to get everything right. Like I said, it's important to be skeptical, there are some aspects I have some reservations about. But overall, everything I've seen makes me think GW2 will be the real thing.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it."-Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
The Sylvarians is a rip off frome Avatars haha, the big tree, that they are one with the plants and so on ;P So its NOT uniqe ^^ But i love it anyway.
Actually, the lore for the sylvari and the Pale Tree itself started well before Avatar was released in 2009. In 2007, Eye of the North was released, and it already had the grove of the Pale Tree (at a very young age) in it, located not far from Rata Sum (if I remember the geography right). So the planning for this goes a long way back, although there's no telling how fleshed out it was back then.
When I hear all the good ideas and intentions, I think wow thats awesomeness.
When I see the gameplay videos I think, WoW .. eastern style, in HD.
More lightshow, more story crap, more actions per second, more BLEH.
On the other hand it could work, there are just many pitfalls that could turn GW2 into another FPS game with no depth.
I would like to see videos with combat that shows this awesome combat tactical stuff.. I want to see hiding behind a rock, I want to see someone swinging a sword without neon lights all over the screen, I want to see mystic places with atmosphere, convince me it is a world and make me beleive in the characters.
Are you insuiating that FPS games have no depth? That's ridiculous.
Anyway, GW2 plays nothing like an FPS game, ya know, considering it's an MMO. I thought even the dumbest person could see this...
GW1 was tactical. GW2 will be tactical. Don't believe it? Cool. Proceed to watch ArenaNet prove you wrong like they usually do to everyone else.
If you wont accept my arguments that fine, I only offered my opinion based on what I seen on the videos and what I like. But troll ? bah only trolls use troll as an argument. So, return to the OPs question, what do you want to see in future videos. That is what I did, I just needed to explain why I wanted to see certain aspects in a gameplay video.
I only meant to say, it looks like WoW, and I even tried to say I hope GW2 will be deeper than what the videos showed so far. I would like to see gameplay videos that match up with the promises.
I just wanna let you know your set yourself up to this by saying it looks like WoW in HD. Because, the art direction is sooo damn different Idk how anyone with eyes can say the two are alike. Seriously, you must be one of those people who doesn't see much difference in different styles of well anything.... Look here is an example.
In my opinion. WE NEED this GAME! If people didn't try to step out of the MMO-Box we'd all just be playing "This is a WoW clone but you get....." The combat looks amazing finally it takes a little skill and not just "Well i got the best arena gear in the game so I'm just going to stand still and pwn everything" Your looking at this the eyes of a WoW fan-boy who thought GW1 wasn't really good at all. But GW2 will be amazing their not false advertising and i believe someone said something about WAR going to change the way MMO's are made well no it was a Wow clone with RVR thats it!
Theres my two cents can't wait for GW2 and SW:TOR to finally come out I don't know how much longer I can wait.
Originally posted by mrshroom89 Unless its with the toned down sprites dont bother, notice how all their combat videos have no more than 3 or 4 pc and a couple npcs, Yeaaa thats because there are way to many combat effects and it all looks like a huge mess, even with just a few people around.
Uhm, the shatterer vid had loads of people in it, it looks like at least 50 to me.
They have mostly showned dungeon combat lately, that means 5 players maximum but the vids from last autumn had plenty of open world action.
It might be that you are right and that they will have to tune down the level of effects before launching, wouldn't be the first time that happens in a game but I don't really see the problem, you can usually turn off most of the effects in any game if you like to.
the problem with that is that by doing that you basically hamper your combat. Since how can you dodge a attack that you can't see, simply because you tone down animation effects? See where I am going with this yet?
Personally, I don't really mind all the effects. I don't think it's too much, I bet that once you actually play the game, you'll get used to it pretty fast.

I don't remember hearing from anyone that was playing it, complaints about the the eye candy. But I did start to notice that I was having trouble watching what the mobs were doing when there was a lot of focused fire on them. The first couple of times I viewed the vids, I didn't noticed it because I was just trying to take it all in, but later I did start to notice the abundance of effects.
ANet said they will be addressing it so they don't think the level of fireworks is quite where they want it yet either.
Well, I could understand that it might be a bit too much when there's 50 people attacking the same mob. But like you said, ANet is planning something to fix this issue. After all, they want it to be the best MMORPG it can possibly be when they release it!
But hey, the game is not out yet, so there's nothing to worry about yet really!
Hope is nature's way of enabling us to survive so that we can discover nature itself.
Keep producing these vids OP, I personally enjoy hearing the devs talking about the game with the footage in context and actually enjoy listening to what the devs say above all, so your work on these vids is spot on imo.
