Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided. Why? Because I enjoyed the gigantic worlds - distant places truly felt distant (at launch), the in-depth crafting, the skill system, and the social tools, e.g., player cities, cantina hangouts, bounties, etc.
FFXI...all the game was missing was updated graphics (pre level cap raise)...it was SUCH a good/deep game. lol ^^ and before you people start shouting about ffxiv..it's not the same, not yet. they're trying but they're not there yet...
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

You should try swtor. You have a signature worshipping it you might as well play it.

Pretty sure that sig is a knock at bioware's SWTOR and how much they are copying wow.
Alsoo add my vote for SWG. Still waiting for EMU to have houses and vendors...
I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.
risk your life path of the emperor.. or rose online lolol
i enjoyed both emensly a graphical update on a pretty solid base is all it really needs imo.. might make them both seem less grindy and really make the enviroments pop out more
Final Fantasy XI for me as well, i tried to start playing it not too long ago and the graphics just killed me.
If i would have started playing it at launch i'm sure i would have loved it, but for some reason i am a graphics whore, a big one, so much so that if graphics aren't great, i quit. i just can't get immersed in a world that looks that far under par with what i play these days. my two cents.
While it isn't technically a MMORPG it is a MORPG and that is close enough.
The potential of all the fan created content for a game like that is gigantic. I spent quite a time in it on personal servers with some dedicated GMs that possesed monsters and spawned stuff on players, it was just great.
I have played many MMOs during my time but nothing was really close to NWN.
FFXI...all the game was missing was updated graphics (pre level cap raise)...it was SUCH a good/deep game. lol ^^ and before you people start shouting about ffxiv..it's not the same, not yet. they're trying but they're not there yet...
Ditto....FFXIV should have been FFXI-2, or just FFXI-HD with all the proper updates that they could never do because of the PS2 limitations. If you were to delve deep into the lore and look at the mock-ups of how big Vana'diel really is, and all the continents never used, it had such amazing promise.
Sadly, over the past 2 years, and while granted some of the changes with the 76-99 level cap increases have been great, its just no longer the same game as it used to be. Ever since Abyssea was added, there are no epic storylines after Wings of the Goddess, and everything prior has all but become obsolete and pointless now. Sure its still there to do if one were to play proper and avoid Abyssea entirely, but most don't, and its ever more difficult to find help for the events that still require a group, or at least one good job at lvl 90+
Anyway...here's hoping that Yoshi-P eventually turns FFXIV around and its worth playing someday...he's been doing a good job thus far, but its taking too long!
Amazingly fun PvP and points system, random boss mob's spawn in safe areas and the PK zone. Item upgrader (Magic Anvil) with a chance to improve or destroy your item. The magic anvil was a whole nother game for me... kinda like gambling. 5% skill loss when killed by a mob (you get 3% of the loss back if a priest rezzes you. Just too much to talk about, I really loved that game.

sigh
Everquest (pre - Luclin)
Because MMO's with good exploration aspects, difficulty, and an actual death penalty are a thing of the past.
which is just weak.
Anarchy Online
Because I am so freaking sick of dragons, elves, dwarves and orcs I could puke.
The Brave Do Not Fear The Grave
Star Wars Galaxies pre-CU/NGE. Talk about an easy question.
Everquest before Luclin, or DAOC before Atlantis.
Pre-CU SWG. It was conceptually the best mmorpg ever made.
FFXI...all the game was missing was updated graphics (pre level cap raise)...it was SUCH a good/deep game. lol ^^ and before you people start shouting about ffxiv..it's not the same, not yet. they're trying but they're not there yet...
Asheron's Call. I still think the design is the best of any MMO running today.
Pre Cu SWG, it was good then, I can only imagine it with today's graphics. I really miss Creature Handler
I want two. Number one is Everquest. I just loved it and more fun there then any game ever. Number 2 Dark Ages Of Camelot.

I'll second that DAoC thing you said there.

Biowares Neverwinter nights.

Ultima Online Pre-AoS... can't believe no one else has said this.
I really loved Horizons....

Anarchy Online, loved the character development in that game as well as the sci-fi theme.
Asheron's Call - if they end macroing along with the graphics.
There is much to be said for this.
