Yay!. I got my email telling me about this a few minutes ago. I was worried it was a beta invite and I have to work this weekend, ha ha. Happy Holidays in advance! (I may have to be 'ill' during our planned Christmas visits....)
As expected, they were waiting on Blizzard to show their hand with Diablo III, cause immediately after their 2012 letter yesterday we get the launch date for SWTOR.
Highly doubtful, but damn would it be funny if Blizzard were to post a new msg here soon. "Psych, we're going to release Diablo III on Dec 19th...muhaahahaha!" Wouldn't really matter since pre-orders have been limited and there is a week of early access before the 20th, and most everyone will be playing then!

Speaking of the 'beta', now that I know when it is coming out I don't want to be in the beta.
I've gone through the release schedule until 20th of Dec and my god, it is absolutely insane!
Every week it is some new game. There is one instance of a 2 week period where nothing I want is coming out but otherwise, it is every week until 20th.
Holy poo poo. ><
Gdemami - Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
Makes me curious what there is going to be complaints about now.....
What about Australia?
Thats right, Origin doesn't allow Australians to pre-order, I guess we can just pre-order from Amzaon
Oh wait, we have to pay $50 for delievery that takes more than a week to get here.
Guess we get the shaft up the butthole again.
If you pre-order and have the code, what's stopping you from registering the code and downloading the client for the 'head start'?
It is an MMORPG so I assume you know you have to have an internet connection. :P
What I'm saying is that we have to pay $50 extra for it to be sent here, Australian can't digital order the game from Origin.
And you can't just cancel the order just to get head start
That DOES suck! 50 dollars for shipping and no downloads from Origin, I feel for you. Will you be able to download on release date? It sounds like the early access stuff is going to be very short term.
I still think with Blizzard releasing Diablo 3 in early 2012 had something to do with it and it gave BW / EA the green light, despite both games be utterly different.
Blizz announced D3 was being pushed back a few days ago.
Launching a couple of days before Christmas is PURE GENIOUS.
They know that a lot of people, especially children, have previous commitments for the holidays.
Launching at this time will reduce server stress as some of the people that would play continously will have to stop and go to Grandma's house or out of state or whatever. College kids too.
Every person who has to be "out of town" for that week and can't log in acts as a natural server stress reducer.
I like this move it really makes a lot of sense to me even if I reall don't want to wait that long
P.S. Don't feel bad for the employees that have to work, unless you feel bad for the McDonalds employees and everyone else who has to work.
Have a sense of humor, no need to get ALL MODDY ! A Simpson's quote shouldn't be worth a warning. You are lucky anyone is bothering to read this rag.
Ooh interesting this. I guess it SHOULD have been november, but with all the games and the 'beta feedback' It probably got pushed to Dec....
Now...to pre-order or not to pre-order... (Unlike rabid fanbois, I won't pre-order until there is a release date).
BioWare and LucasArts are pleased to announce that Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ will launch on December 20, 2011 in North America and on December 22, 2011 in the European Launch Territories! The announcement was first made by BioWare co-founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk during their keynote address at the 2011 Eurogamer Expo in London, England. Speaking to a packed room of press and fans alike, Dr. Muzyka acknowledged the weight of the moment and the patience of the fans.... there your release date Link :P http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20110924
Actually this is one of the dumbest release dates of any they could have chosen, mainly because of the christmas backlog on mail and the strain that happens every year on the mailing system. Putting the release date this close to christmas means that many people will not get the box in time. In the UK the release date is the 22nd so anyone thinking of getting SWTOR as a christmas gift for someone think again if you want to be sure that your gift arrives on time. Any christmas release should be at least two weeks before, not two days and if this isn't possible then release in January and use the extra couple of weeks to iron out another couple of bugs.

That's why you use the "Gift" option when you order something from an online store. Oh and you can preorder to have early access and just DL it, it will still get to you at around launch day, but you can start playing before that day. Also keep in mind most partial services still operate on Christmas eve

Sooo anyone got any ideas when early access might begin ?
Probably 2 or 3 days before the 20th, although some people seem to have it in their heads that it will be a week of early access.
I agree with the weekend before. Download on the 13th, game play late afternoon on the 16th makes sense. Should be enough time to get off the starter planet and into or even off the home planet depending on how many hours you play. Having 4 days will be enough to spread out the player base for launch.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them? R.A.Salvatore

As someone who has worked retail the past two christmases..yes it does suck so of course I'm going to feel bad for the employees working on Christmas, the added stress here is this is like a grand opening a few days before Christmas, it's gonna suck for them.
I think it will be 1 week or more. They have said many times they are trying to divide up the player base to make for a smoother launch. That being said I don't see them only doing it 3days before. As it would still be only 1-3 huge chunks of people loging in at the same time at the same lvl.
Bioware just cancelled Christmas for all their employees.
I think those devs, support and system admins will hate BW and EA for this move. Even if they get smooth launch there still is likely issues popping up needing fixing. So, from marketing this might be good, but as practical point of view not so...

so much for that smooth launch.

As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

This great because finally we can see an end to all the "Release date pleeeese!" spam tied to this game all over the intewebz..
Yes, but now we're gonna see the "early access date please!" spam instead.

omg you're right. Thing is it's gonna be different for everyone depending on when you entered you code.
fresh spam is better than old spam!

My only concern is..do the people that will be stuck squashing server problems on christmas day get Overtime ?
