Will I like the game if I start now?

xDayxxDayx Member Posts: 712

I currently play and enjoy Vanguard and EQ1(TLP server only).

I like the following in my MMO's:

-Difficult but possible soloability

-Non-wowification of gameplay (keep it difficult)

-1 quest may take 1 day(2-3 hours) to complete

-Single fights may take a while to kill, so plan your pulls, and watch out for adds. If an add does comes you better be on your game and use CC or the like.

-The possibilty of going into dungeons you discover solo and maybe camping the entrance or some room to grind xp.

-Class quests are good, especially class specific armor quests

-Upgradeable spells through quests or rare mobs.

-Random rare drops from mobs.

-Skill point system, If I had the choice there would be no levels whatsoever. Skill points improve as you use them. Would be playing a skill-based sandbox if one could keep my attention for more than 6 months.

-Open world is better. Instances and insta-porting ruin my immersion.

-Deep crafting.

Questions:

1.Does sitting make you regen faster.

2.Does it have first person view? And if you look down in first person can you see your lower half of your body?

3.Is there player housing?

4.Night and day cycles? Weather?

5. Will I like FFiV based upon what I like in my MMO's?

6. Do you still have the ability to change to any class you want on the same character? I personally dont like this and do you feel this negatively impacts the individualism of the character?

Thank you.

This game has that. Soloing has been gimped last patch, so that it is now possible but at a very slow pace compared to parties.

Not sure what you mean by this, but XIV doesn't guide you from quest hub to quest hub handing out gear, if that's what your wanting to hear.

-1 quest may take 1 day(2-3 hours) to complete

Sadly, leves have a half hour time limit. I haven't tried the storyline quests yet, but it's similair to a long quest chain in WoW, but with cutscenes and such.

-Single fights may take a while to kill, so plan your pulls, and watch out for adds. If an add does comes you better be on your game and use CC or the like.

The fighting is slower paced on XIV, so they take awhile (especially party on party fights). Crowd Control plays a bigger role than most other games too.

-The possibilty of going into dungeons you discover solo and maybe camping the entrance or some room to grind xp.

The new dungeon they added for lower levels last patch has a few good rooms for solo experience.

-Class quests are good, especially class specific armor quests

They have class quests, and are adding "Job" quests to unlock them and for there specific gear.

-Upgradeable spells through quests or rare mobs.

Spells are upgraded as you level, but not from those ways.

    -Random rare drops from mobs.

You can get HQ versions of the same materials mobs normally drop, which crafters buy (for a good price) to make better gear.

-Skill point system, If I had the choice there would be no levels whatsoever. Skill points improve as you use them. Would be playing a skill-based sandbox if one could keep my attention for more than 6 months.

The game uses levels for each weapon, and you learn more moves with that weapon as you level. But most skills are available for all weapons, so it's a mix of the two really.

-Open world is better. Instances and insta-porting ruin my immersion.

The game world is open, but certain boss battles and dungeons are instanced. Yoshi-P is hinting he plans for endgame to be instanced.

    -Deep crafting.

The game has simple crafting, IMO, but it plays a big role in the game. Crafters are needed to make gear, and can repair the equipment out in the field if one of your party mates has it leveled.

    Questions:

1.Does sitting make you regen faster.

Since last patch, remaining stationary heals you faster (not sitting). Food helps that also.

2.Does it have first person view? And if you look down in first person can you see your lower half of your body?

    Yes;No.

    3.Is there player housing?

Not yet, but it's being planned.

    4.Night and day cycles? Weather?

Yes to both, but doesn't play a big role in the game besides monster spawns and such.

    5. Will I like FFiV based upon what I like in my MMO's?

    Read above.

    6. Do you still have the ability to change to any class you want on the same character? I personally dont like this and do you feel this negatively impacts the individualism of the character?

Yep. And no, I don't. You can't change in battle, and the weapon you hold really determines your abilities (a Gladiator can't be the main healer, for instance). It only helps the indivituality IMO, since you can do all content on a single character. Helps build community, a name to the player.

    Thank you.
