Was anyone else unable to play all weekend due to constant crashes?

raykorraykor Member UncommonPosts: 326

During the previous beta weekend I played 20+ hours and the game worked flawlessly without a single crash.

This weekend I was only able to get up to level 3—it was unplayable for me. The game would crash consistently after less than 10 minutes. I experienced eleven of the infamous blue screen of death crashes running Windows 7 x64 as well as over a dozen crashes to desktop. I even experimented by pausing at the character selection screen, spinning my character in circles, and sure enough I experienced a BSoD crash—without even entering the game world.

I want to stress that the game didn’t crash a single time during the previous beta weekend and I have not made any hardware or software changes to my system during the last two weeks. I am not experiencing any problems in other applications or games so I sincerely doubt that my system has developed a hardware problem in the last two weeks. Nonetheless, I ran memtest86 (overnight) and scandisk without errors. I also did a clean reinstall of the latest NVidia 285.62 video driver. I even uninstalled and redownloaded the entire 20 GB game!

I am simply curious if I am the only person that had problems this severe?

It was fine, had a bit of lag but to be expected with stress testing,  if you got the blue screen of death, it sounds like you could of PC issues, scan for a virus, and make sure all your drivers are up to date.   But if your getting that, that sounds like its on your end.

I know you will say its not, but you need to look, because my whole guild was able to play all weekend with very little issues aside from lag here and there.  also Post your specs please.

Nope pretty much no problems except 1 instantaneous close and an assortment of in game bugs.

I experienced no crashes.  Up and down FPS issues which I am reluctant to blame on my computer because they came at random times (and other people said they experienced them too).

I did notice a handful of bugs, but nothing gamebreaking.

The most annoying one by far was interrupts and stuns in warzones not actually interrupting and stunning.  I guess it was lag but some long time beta players have also reported this bug occurring from time to time.

My world map was bugged and all icons would disappear at times.  Or when I joined a party and was suppose to be shuttled to them, I wouldn't.

Also, a PVP vendor's title randomly started appearing on all other players and NPCs.

One freeze up over the weekend. So nope everything went smooth. Didn't even feel like a beta test.

I had 1 crash in like 20/25 hours of gameplay.

I had 3 lag spikes in the same timeframe.

I had however a few fps drops, but i had evrything onmax ingame and on my graphic card.

Sound was a totaly diffrent story.

in many zones i had horrible sound or no music/ambience sound at all.

In PvP Hutball sounds was very very anoying.

These where the only flaws i noticed in my total play time past weekend.

Played on and off all weekend and had one crash after making changes to my keyboard, offhand and mouse with the game minimized.

A few graphics glitches but overall it ran great.

  • raykorraykor Member UncommonPosts: 326

Every single driver is up to date...video, audio, bios, ethernet, chipset, etc.  Hardware and virus (deep)  scans all came up clean.  Zero problems with any other game.  Even ran the 3DMark 11 stress test.

I understand what you're saying but I don't know what else to try. image

Didn't have any problems... Even the lag was minimal, which was a surprise with all the people running about...

I have a relatively new system (3 month old) and I had some problems with SSD drive, if your game or your windows/graphics card drivers are on an SSD, you should look into updating that. Haven't had a single BSoD since then.

Also, since it crashed on the character creator screen, you could try installing an older driver for your graphics card and see with it... It could be one of those "perfect storm" situations that should not happen unless you have just the "right" pieces of software for all things involved.

Beta was fun... It was sad to log off last night knowing it would take a few weeks to get back in.

This weekend was my first time playing.

Played from friday to sunday, and didn't have a single crash. Very nice framerates too. (55 - 111 fps)

Running on a  i5 2500K with 8 GB Ram and a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti OC. Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Leveled up 2 characters to 10, and one smuggler to level 5.

  • Didn't experience a single crash, and I played A LOT. I suffered from a different issue. Occasionally my mouse clicks would stop working inside UI elements. This would often force me to Alt+F4 out of the game and restart it, though if I could force a loading screen through interplanetary travel or quick travel it would be fixed. On occasion it also fixed itself after a while for no apparent reason.

That is what I am starting to think but it has me baffled because the exact same combination of hardware, software, and drivers worked flawlessly two weeks ago.

Hmm, maybe your gfx card's ram. Or is it also covered by mem test?

I had similar issues a few years ago, also ONLY with one game. Couldn't find the source for days and after reinstalling just about everything. It ended up being a fault in one of my ram sticks. But if you used a memory checker it should find that.

If even reinstalling windows + game + installing new drivers wont help you, it's probably hard ware related anyway. The best way to find the source is to ask a friend to borrow his PC for a few hours and swap hard ware modules until you find the source. I'd start with RAM followed by GFX card, after that, try another HD. If nothing works it might be a problem with your motherboard or cpu.

That's how I would go about it, anyway.

    Good luck whatever you do!

How's your CPU temperature?  A hot CPU causes lots and lots of bizarre little crashes with "no reason".

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Excellent stability for me with no lag.

45 ms to Eu servers and 100 ms to USA was good also.

I crashed a lot the previous weekend, and none this weekend. It is beta though, so I wouldn't go blaming your hardware just yet.

Sorry to hear of your trouble OP. I have not had 1 CTD or even many bugs for that matter. Also , had zero lag issues as well.

Hope it works out for you.

I am sorry you had problems. My brother did experience this early on but he went to the beta boards and the community helped him fix it. Myself, I played from Friday at 10am and all weekend. I crashed only 1 time as I had the luck of picking the ONLY server to go down all weekend. I rolled on another server and had no issues at all after that.

Man oh man is this game fun for me.

Zero crashes, minimal lag....Sorry to hear about your problems, sounds like a mem problem (ram)

  • NaqajNaqaj Member UncommonPosts: 1,673

Can't confirm anything like this. I couldn't log in on friday and saturday at all, but on sunday, I had a 8-hour session with no crashes , and one single noticable lagspike. Not bad at all.

I had a few lag spikes but i only ctd'ed twice over the beta event and both times was after playing for a loooong time.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Only had 1 crash to desktop involving the galaxy map on my starship. Was able to log back in no problem and then the map worked just fine.

Beyond that, mostly smooth as butter.

Had 2-3 times when the client would freeze for 10-15 seconds, wasn't an issue when I was buying/selling or in town but almost got me killed the one time it happened during combat.

Game only crashed for me when trying to close. Performence was bad in general and especially in a warzone. I do not have a super good computer, but pretty sure it should be able to run that game better.
