We have dusted off our crystal ball and once again are ready to peek into the future to share our predictions for the upcoming year. Check out our prognostications and see if you agree. Have other thoughts? Leave a comment or two to tell us more.

9) Facebook Will See At Least One Real MMO

We’re calling it now, with Garriott throwing his hat into the ring with an eventual “UltimaTE RPG” Facebook will finally begin to establish itself as something more than a social gaming platform. Gunshine.net is close, but we’re going to see something even more intriguing by the year’s end.

Bit of a shame that TSW will have double dipping business model.

Well there are other good games incoming (+ I have few old Single players that I have not got time to play) so I will skip it.

Can't stand double dipping really ,especially when they said they'll use AoC experience which they liked.

    EDIT:

Hope 2012 will be year when some good company will pick up ArcheAge for US and / or EU or that XLGames will announce they'll release it 'here' themself :)

I think most of that is on the money, though I think Blizzard will hang onto a reveal of Titan until 2013.

It would be good for the game if WH40k goes 3 (or even better 5/7) factions, throw in the Tyrannids as a NPC faction enemy to all the others provided they can get some decent AI in for them. But I think GW will hamstring the game the same way they hamstrung WAR.

More 40K info would definitely be nice for this year.

Pull some strings and get an exclusive. Now!

I really do hope that THQ and co. rethink the two faction deal for 40K. Three or more factions are really necessary for a proper Warhammer experience, IMO.

EDIT: I also hope Bill is right on all counts. Would sure make for an interesting 2012!

...and that is the reason I have lost interest in this game.  I refuse to pay to play a game I will in all likelyhood have to pay more to play the way it should be already. If it was going to launch as a 'freemium' type of game where as a subscriber I have access to most if not all the items/account services in the cash shop, I may give it a second look.

No thanks to pay to pay more.

Regarding GW2, if the betas go ahead smoothly, I wouldn't be surprised if they release a lot earlier than September.

They have already done a lot of testing and bug-fixing during the alpha stage, so many people following its development are expecting a release sometime around the late spring/early summer mark. A few people are hoping for February, though I don't quite share that kind of optimism.

ArenaNet have mentioned in the past that they intend for their Beta phase to be much smaller than other developers would traditionally use. Open Beta in particular is expected to me more on the scale of a preview weekend.

I'm hoping for later rather than sooner. I need to get 30/50! >.>

At some point in 2012 we'll hear something about ArcheAge's migration to "the west", when we might see it. I can't imagine they'll not make a announcement this year.

I hope they won't drag gw2 all the way to september! That's too late. As TotTWriter said their beta phase will be shorter that what's normal for mmos. Gw1 had 6 months of beta I believe, gw2 shouldn't have more than 3 months imo.

Maybe, I think it also depends how well the South Korean launch goes. If it goes fine publishers will notice it, as it is now most of them are a bit careful with Asian games. Most of them go pretty aweful in the West and the devs are rather careful nowadays.

Lets hope it have a great launch, if it launches badly we might never see it.

Best case scenario is probably early 2013 launch. It usually take about 1 1/2 year to "Westernize" a game. It wouldn't surprise me if WoDO launches earlier here.

As for my jopes, I am looking forward to try GW2 and TSW, and I hope to hear mora about "Class 4" and WoDO. A Western publisher for AA would be sweet as well of course. And maybe at least a name for Zenimax MMO.

I don't know if it is truth or not, the game is not out yet, but the devs have stated that every cash item is cosmetic and can also be obtained by in-game methods, in a game as customizable as TSW, there are 11 slots to put cloths, I think it is a good way to explore it.

I follow TSW for almost 3 years now, from what I understand, the game is not designed for everyone, it is a niche AAA MMO, for casual gamers, lots of story and puzzles, themepark based on our world with urban legends and mystery, big focus in community (look up the official foruns for some puzzles and ARGs), progression based in forming decks of skills and itens, heavy customization capabilities of itens, skills and aesthetics... and other stuff, if you are really interested in this game you should look the official forum, there is where things happens

Looking from a mainstream point of view GW2 looks better, but since TSW is just the right niche for me, it is the game I'm watching the most.

there is no MMO that is going to be the new WoW, not even Titan, I think in the future, there are going to be lots of niche MMOs

Only a couple issues, mostly i think they will be close.

The facebook MMO? I doubt it. And from Garriot? Not gonna happen. Anything he puts his name to is for cash to get back in to space. That has been his self avowed priority since way back before Tabula Rasa. When he got the Space bug. Look for a FB game with a huge cash shop and the least amount of effort on his part.

And on the Secret World.. really it is way past the time of being able to think that they can do a good launch of anything. This is a seriously Buyer Beware, till we see that they can do it. Like, wait. really.

Last, have my doubts on Hearing anything on Titan. Think it is more likely to be 2013. If we are all still here:P

I wouldn't hold your breath, from what I understand it was GW who pushed for two factions in WAR and they will most likely push for two factions in the 40k mmo.  After all even the new table top rules more or less breaks them into two factions.  Not to mention that almost all of their world wide campaigns since I've been playing have been two factions, in fact they often call them order and destruction (look in the back of the current Fantasy Battles rulebook.)  GW has pretty much lost their minds over the last few years, making decisions that only rip you off more.  Like resin kits that are cheaper for them to make and more expensive for you to buy.

I predict a year in which I might enjoy a new MMO (in fact it's already come true thanks to the amazing SWTOR)...

I predict a year in which people might stop talking about Blizzard for 20 seconds (see the next one)...

I predict a year in which Guild Wars 2 will rock the foundations of MMOs to its knees...

And finally, Brad McQuaid will return with an announcement for a new game that will promise to bring back the days of old and live up the name of EQ (ok I'm putting a lot of hope and faith in to that)...

All hail the Pixel, for it is glorious Orange!

After playing Star Wars: The Old Republic, I am absolutely done, finished and kaput with any two faction MMORPG.  If a game comes out, and it has only two factions, I don't care if it's Care Bears Online, Warhammer 40k or the Elder Scrolls Online, I will not participate in the beta test, I will not buy it just to check it out, and I will not download it when it goes F2P.  I will not reward a company for such banal game design with either my time or my money.

#9 is doubtful considering the track record. I actually hope I'm wrong and his studio does create something cool. We'll see.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

The predicition list seems feasible enough. Although, my gut is telling me that GW2 will be sooner than September. I am willing to bet that MoP will have a June-ish release, just in time for summer vacations.

I am stil torn on whether Blizzard will actually talk about Titan yet this year. Blizzcon won't have a wow xpack announcement, since MoP will either have just released (or will soon be released). Heart of the Swarm might take the center stage for Blizzard.

If SWTOR is going strong, and if GW2 is proving to be successful, a Titan announcement would be the card Blizzard plays to keep their name in the center of all things mmo.

At this rate GW2 will be obsolete at launch
  • plescureplescure Member UncommonPosts: 397

i think blizz will hve to reveal more about titan and start the hype rolling. after mist of pantsera is a semi flop i think they wil realise that the money wagon that is wow has lost a wheel and is teetering on the cliff edge. it will be the right time to steal the limelight with there new sparkly mmo

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!

September is a reasonable release time frame for GW2. Titan has been known to be on the late 2013 schedule for Blizz for awhile. Titan roaring out of the gate at Blizzcon is most likely on the money. You will see a promotional campaign like nothing seen before from Blizz.

  • fiontarfiontar Member UncommonPosts: 3,682

You already lost the Guild Wars 2 prediction with the addition of "they will announce the release date [near] the beginning of the year. The game will be released "when it's ready" and they won't know when that is until they have completed more of the beta process.

They have stated over and over that "closed beta will determine when the game will enter Open Beta and Open Beta will determine when we release". So, even IF the game were not to release until September, we wouldn't expect an announced release date until pretty close to that date and not even a broader release window more than a couple months out.

Late Q2, 2012, likely June, would be my best guess, but it could be as early as March or as late as September.

First, Blizzard will announce what Titan is at Blizzcom if SWTOR continues strong. That is not a given so they might hold off.

GW exercises far too much control over it's IP, just like LA, they poison everything they touch when it comes to on line games, they just don't understand the genre at all.  WH 40k will remain with two factions and go down in flames because of it.

The Secret World could be a sleeper, but past releases by this studio have been less than stellar, so will have to temper that with some serious doubt.

GW2 will rock when it comes out.

I look for some indie developers to stir things up too, but I think the smartphones and pads are still too primitive for a top notch MMO.
