Guild Wars 2: Open Beta and Release This Year - Year of the Dragon

A new update just popped up on the Official Guild Wars 2 blog, with news about the upcoming beta tests from February through April, leading into the game's release this year.

Guild Wars 2 has captured the imagination of gamers and media all over the world with its action-oriented combat, its living world full of dynamic events, its highly personalized role-playing experience, and the handcrafted artistry that suffuses every element of the game. Last year, thousands of you joined us at shows and events all over the world to try Guild Wars 2 for yourself. This year, you’ll finally be able to immerse yourself in the vast, diverse world of Tyria.

ArenaNet's Mike O'Brien goes on to talk about the upcoming select Press Betas in February (yay!) and large scale tests in March and April, all culminating in the eventual release later this year.

    nowhere does it states open beta, and big scale events for arena net = 5k people..  so i wouldnt get your hopes up that hight for proper open beta.. they will probablly do those 3 hour weekend test like they did on gw1, those were kinda horrible, couple hours in a month spanned over multiple months.. yeh

    You were able to play for the entire weekend.....

    You guys probably quite badly need someone to preview this beta for you and play it way too much, right?

    According to this release is in May or June earliest, more likely July.

    After StarWars I recently came to the conclusion no mmo is worth a monthly sub . I only play casually so free to play is ok for me but buy to play is even better . I really hope Guild Wars 2 does well because if it does it will prove to other developers that this model is a credible one .

    I'm guessing it will be a summer release .

    thats not what i recall, i recall it being most limited beta/preview ever

    I predict more empty SWTOR servers than disappointed GW2 players, but that's just me.
