I've only noticed it in the 1-29 on Byriel. Level 50 stuff we'll get the occasional troll in WF's but otherwise its pretty laid back. I've had just one bad guy in dungeons in forever (lots of bad players, not bad people though). I'm part of the "Get a guild" group though, find people with like minds and desires and hang out with them. We've got a couple people on the server I'm not thrilled with, but we know them by name and just don't associate. At a guess it will be more prevelant on higher pop servers because the community is too large to know everyone and people feel like there are no consequences.

The last week I have noticed a slight decline for the agregate of non trial servers in Rift sub numbers on Rift Status' weekly population reports.  It is the first time since early January I have seen the numbers going down.  The decline is minimal.  But its part of a trend whetre the increase has been gradually slowing the last few weeks.

Maybe Rift is losing some of the people they gained from the ToR exodus, maybe people are taking a break before ID releases or maybe they have grown tired and are looking for a new game?  But whatever the reason I think its safe to say the gain in population we have seen the last two-three months  has stopped. Interesting to see where the numbers go from here.  With the promise of 3 hyped games coming out it could mean a loss population but it also could mean a gain in population like what happened wit ToR if the new games fail to deliver.  Rift was an alternative to those that did not like ToR.  I am not sure it will be as an attrative alternative to disatisfied TSW, Tera and GW2 players and their target audience is a bit different. Either way it will be interesting to see what happens tghe next few months and in the next few weeks.  Will these numbers keep trending downwards?  Will it pick up steam or just level off?

Well i have just resubbed after a long break , i wanted to play TERA but it wouldnt run on my laptop as i like to play on that as well as my desktop real nice community on my server (Riptalon eu) . I also had a few issues with my security questions but after an email and phonecall to customer services my problem was dealt with very quickly by Christie who was very helpful.

hmmz well that is a odd design decision. Sort of defeats the purpose of the class. They normalized valor, so basically top gear set and low ran set are equal in valor. They introduced brackets so rank 1-19 and 20-40 normally fight each other. If you are a rank 1-5 and get tossed into a high rank they boost you up to like rank 13, so it still sucks but not as bad.

There is talk of pvp and pve leaderboards in 1.8 along with some mystery 40v40 zone that is supposed to go beyond the 2 faction concept. They have been really really really pushing the "beyond the two faction" thing ever sense they put in the Mercenary system that took war front queue's almost down to nothing.

How does the Mercenary system work Puremallace? This bit of news I must have missed.

Take the two faction system in pvp and burn it and piss on it. Think of it more as red vs blue now instead of Horde vs Alliance. Say the Guardians have 11 people queue'd and defiant have 9 well the system grabs a Guardian and makes him a mercenary.

Queue times are basically nothing right now. Only issue is some people want extra incentive like special gear or some special reward or they want the option to turn it off which utterly defeats the purpose of the system to begin with.

Can't say I really like the idea of mercenaries, I kind of like to have a seething hate over many misdeeds for the other side(s).  If I end up grouping with them and liking the group that would be bad for my immersion.

The 40v40 zone sounds interesting if it happens, and if they add a faction I wouldn't mind that either.  I just don't like the idea of constantly swapping teams.

I still might check it out though again.  Gonna burn through ME3 real quick and then might resub a month and see how it is...

While I like less queue time wait, I'm not sure I like the idea that basically being in a part of a faction means nothing. Sound like a bandaid system that creates new problems. Thanks for the info.

Rift doesn't really care about immersion.  There are pros and cons to killing immersion for the sake of gameplay and i can see both sides of the issue.

One thing Puremallace unsurprisingly did not mention is that mercenaries tend to care less than a normal teammate.  They are more likely to be lone wolves or just goof off.  Not all, but it happens often enough.

This new thing where people care about RP all of a sudden is just recent. In my view rp'rs have been holding mmorpg's back. I did not even realize I was killing guardians until a guildie type "you just killed me pure" lol

It does make sense that pvp for it to be more fair would adapt into this red vs blue style of gaming vs the heavy RP lore related stuff. GW2 is really challenging this. The entire Merc system in Rift is a rip off from Hutt Ball in TOR. How long before WoW offers something like this?

People were a bit pissed because they wanted some type of reward for being this "3rd faction" and as soon as they start calling it that you get the RvR threads and the pvp crazies come out of the wood work.

People will be people, some screw off, some try harder. Not any different than the people in your native faction. Most of the stupid has worn off and people just tend to play when they get in WF's now that it has been a bit. I'd be very jealous if you've never had a member of your own faction in your WF that was a complete jackass.

There is a big difference between RP and immersion.  Lack of immersion is a large part of why Rift has struggled with its retention over the last year, and now that we know there will be no expansion in 2012 I feel pretty safe in saying that Rift will be under 200k subs by year end.

Yeah, way way big difference between RP and immersion.  For example I never RP, but I like to be immersed in the game world definately.

I also in faction PVP games naturally develop a distaste for the other factions based on repeated bad deeds by them.  Not role playing at all, just a Pavlov's dog reaction to the other factions trying to gank me all the time.  Not liking the other factions to me makes it more meaningful and fun.  More immersive.  I don't roll alts in the other factions because I enjoy being on one side.

But I usually have very little clue about the lore, especially in Rift where I thought the lore was pretty boring.  In general I try to follow the lore while questing as it can make that more interesting, but I never feel very attached to it.  For PVP I just know I'm on one team and hate the other teams and thats good enough for me...

Maybe WoW's scroll of ressurection system was made to tackle Rift's rising population out of fear rather than its other rivals. Hats off in congrats to Rift anyway.

Do people actually believe the stuff they write?  I really dont think that WoW cares that Rift gained probably no more than 25k players over a span of two months (and is back to a slight decline as of late)

SoR is a way to get TOR players back who deleted their characters and I'll put money on it. That SoR program is making some RMT sites some SERIOUS cash right now like you have no idea.

It is also designed to buffer sub numbers come end of month when Blizz will be forced to report another loss.
