All MMO companies make mistakes and break parts of the game this is nothing new, but how they correct the mistake is very important to us players.
Most companies decide to leave it broken. Ex: SWG. ;D
Blizzard tends to fix their game but introducing a new break in the system it seems like... Not always though.
CCP and Trion however always seem to admit that they are wrong and will fix what they have broken.. it may take a bit to get it tho, but you can always rely on them to do it.

I think Trion is a good company, I wish they would of tried to be a little bit more out of the box, and put more into the depth of their game, but with the developing engine/server stuff, and it being their first mmo....I understand them playing it safe, and not going crazy money wise...They did seem decent at listening to their customers, and such...
I was just disappointed, I wanted something bigger, different, and about every decision that could of swung a way I would of liked more, went the more 'WoW clone'/'standard themepark' direction...A lot of the newer MMOs in development and soon to be released are tweaking that formula with some sandbox aspects, so I look forward to that, and maybe the mixture will add some depth to the standard formula.
Never played CCP stuff, didn't like the percieved disadvantage newer players have against older players max skill point wise or whatever it is called in Eve. I didn't like the idea that no matter how much time I put in, i could never get on par with someone else...It may not of mattered that much, but it irked me.
I do look forward to hearing more about WoD though. Not crazy about the 1 race thing though, if they are still doing it.
I always found CCP to be too passive-aggressive for my tastes. An issue would come up and they would fail to fix it or only fix it part way. When players complained they would try to guilt them into accepting the half-assed solution. They always seemed to want to "have their cake and eat it too".
Don't really know much about CCP. But I'm impressed by Trion even though I'm not a fan of Rift.
Did Tirion admit that forcing people in mercenary system was a bad idea ?No,so what is so good about a company destroying lore and forcing people into a system they hate just because the developers could not find a better solution to faction imbalance ?If i wanted to play red vs blue i would have played a fps game not a mmorpg.
This is untrue, the level cap for all skills is 5, while an older player may have a bigger "set" of skills than you it will make little difference in a pvp situation where you have maxed out skills for Ship X and he has maxed out skills for Ship Y. All the other skills he has won't come into play.
There are literally more skills in the game than anyone could ever train (something like 11 years worth, EVE has been out for about 9 years) so there are really no maxed out players. There are players that are very versatile in the variety of stuff they can use, but that could also be said of a younger character that has been around for just a couple of years. No two people will have the exact same 'set' of skills. The 5 year old character could have taken a two year break and only have 3 years worth of skills. The point is its not like other cames where all your skills are brought to bear every time you do anything, different situations and different ships require different skill sets.
The 3 year old player can be as good or a better Titan pilot than the 5 year old player, really depends on what each character spent that time focusing on.
No company is perferct but I agree that Trion and CCP are "good" when it comes to customer satisfaction and loyalty. But most companies are not to bad when it comes to this. Vitrol on these forums aside, I think most companies make games with the best of intentions but they fail in trying to be too middle of the road and please a large a market segment as possible thus creating bland and uninspiring games.
Having said that, SOE does deserve all the hate it gets! (<--- yes, yes I know I am hypocrite)
A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
Most common misconception of EVE. The post above explained it well. A ship is capped on what it can do, you can't use all of your skills at once. So a player of 4 months, for example, that specialized in battleships is going to be the same effectiveness as a 7 year old player. There's a peak on how good you can be in certain ships. They will have more variety, but it's not as simple as older players always = better.
CCP and Trion are some of the best in the field today IMO. I'd add Tiny Speck and Arena Net to the list too.
"Greed is good." - CCP about selling in-game items to players of Eve for real money
Monoclegate killed any and all past, present, or future good will I could ever have with respect to that company, and I hope it burns. NEVER FORGET.
That said, Trion's pretty good. >)
Peace and safety.
Although I totally agree about the merc system, I still think Trion is an amazing company. I think if enough people really don't want the merc system they will remove it or make it optional. They have always been very good about listening to their players and giving us what we want within fair reasoning.
"God, please help us sinful children of Ivalice.."
CCP, sure. I can respect that they took some risks and make a game that has more than a few serious fans.
But Trion doesn't have much of a record one way or the other just yet. Let's see them try to make a game that isn't trying too hard to be WoW, and then we can talk. See if they've got the originality to at least make something that has a chance to be good, and to do it well. And then let's see how they manage it over the course of a few years after launch.
I've never been a fan of CCP, there seems to have been too many incidents where they've pissed off their user base. Not a fan of Eve, either.
Rift was a good effort, but i just couldn't get into it. Trion, however, really impressed me during beta, and they've done a pretty good job of trying to keep rolling out the content. This is very encouraging, and I think it bodes well for their Sci-Fi Channel partnership coming up.
What i was getting at was that compared to other companies these two are really good... like I said when CCP screws up they do eventually fix it and CCP managed to make the game more simplistic to attract new players, but kept the complexity at later game and withotu making the game too easy.
Trion has made mistakes but over all so far have been really good about content and fixes.
It really is touch and go with us players... can't please us all but you have to please the majority of us to be effective and successful.
Now im not saying Blizzard is totally a peice of crap, but latly I dont think they are going in a good direction and its not because of pandas.
SOE does really deserve the hate it gets.

what does instanced pvp have to do with the lore in rift.
I've got the straight edge.
Making a pretty looking Wow clone does not make you a good company.
CCP are great, Trion... how this company that made brainless clone can even compare? o_0
If WoW or SWTOR were brought up it would be indicated that they are using an old payment method that is now out of date.
Fact is MMOs are highly profitable businseses. It does not take a lot of popularity to make an MMO successful. There are hundreds of MMOs out there and most of them still turn a profit by giving it away for free.
Perfect World International made themselves into one of the most profitable gaming companies in the whole world (with the largest subscriber base of any game) by giving away their game Perfect World for free.
MMOs are a great venue for developers to create new independent studios. As long as they attempt to stay innovative they will be successful. The second they stop being innovative they go the way of 3D Realms.

I don't get how you can say they're both great companies, CCP is in the process of wasting tons of money producing DUST which no one will even play.
Fixed that for you.
I like Trion... and I also happen to like Blizzard. Never played any of CCP's games although they seemed to have damaged their relationship with many players through at least a perception of being greedy..and maybe a bit corrupt. But like I said really have no opinion personally.
I didn't find Rift interesting at all and quit after 2 months.
However, the content that Trion provided since launch for free is just mind-bogglingly large/constant and good quality.
Credit is due to where credit is due, Trion gets a thumbs up from me.
CCP on the other hand, I quit my EVE sub when the JITA-Riot hit and will probably never sub to their games again.

Two thumbs up for Trion. They pump out more quality content faster than Blizzard, or anyone else I've ever seen, and they are less than a 1/4 the size.
Rift is lightyears head of where it was even six months ago. It's turned into the game it should have been at release very quickly afterward.
The mercenary system don't give players a choice. If someone wants to stay in queue longer just to avoid playing for the enemy faction in bgs ,they should have that choice.Right now is not a mercenary system but a forced conscription one.
Trying to defend them because "bgs are instanced so it don't counts as lore" is not working,it is still a part of game.I wonder how it will work Ettenmoors (the pvp zone in LOTRO) with wargs fighting together with hobbits against orcs and elfs ,just because developers thought that they need to balance it ?
I tried Rift in beta and I disliked quite a few things Tirion fixed soon enough so in the end I bought the game and I subscribed but I was hoping for them to go for a more realm vs realm game, instead it seems from both this mercenary system and talks about a zone in world where faction will not count for pvp that they choose to fix the population imbalance (which is mostly their fault - lack of a third faction, more interesting npc characters for defiants) by changing the pvp to a guild vs guild/ffa system.
I wanted to chime in before I hit the sack but I was very impressed with Trion. While I wasn't too bully on Rift itself (the game felt soulless and blah) it was extremely well done. Trion did something that it seems nobody can do anymore which is release a game which actually works. There were a few bugs of course (Caelia at launch was super buggy and frustrating) and they made the mistake of opening too many servers but otherwise the game was very solid. It was light years ahead of SWTOR in the quality department for example.
For those complaining Trion didn't do anything new and Rift was just a WoW clone etc etc, yes thats true. But as some pointed out it was probably a smart move to try something safer out of the gate. Already Trion has 2 very different MMO's being made. 1 is an MMORTS which is being made by Petroglyph and published by Trion and the other is an MMOFPS called Defiance which is maybe the most oddball MMO concept currently out there as its going to be an open-world shooter which interconnets with a TV show on SyFy. Whether they pull it off or not will be interesting to see but in the end what I really care about is if it will be the first good PvE driven MMOFPS (Planetside 1/2 are all PvP).
If EoN is as technically sound as Rift was I expect it to be a successful niche game much like EVE. Defiance has big boom/bust potential as well. Then its only a matter of time untill Trion lands a big and well-known IP and makes a smash hit. IMO Marvel should team up with Trion and give us the superhero MMO the genre has been waiting for.
Also Bethesda/ZeniMax should buy CCP as their MMO wing (close ZeniMax Online Studios) and get CCP working on Fallout Online because it needs to be a sandbox. But not just any sandbox. The best sandbox ever made and CCP is the one who can deliver that.
