It was on faith, everything was.
I hold the first post in this fourm and I had faith from that first post in '09 (and one of the first in depth articles from my PC gamer mag that was shiped in October '07 telling me that my new expansion for guildwars was put to rest and the hopes of Guild Wars Utopia were put to rest.)
But through this bad news came the truth and the light at the end of the tunnel that a new full game was to be released.
It has been a long 5 years my friends. Five years that were full of disapointments and haters. there were those who told us that this game was a long shot, or it would just be another Guild Wars. But i know the few of us who knew something much bigger was coming.
For five years this community was ran on hype. Those of us who had the faith in Arenanet. Those of us who knew this was not the normal MMO company. For we had lived through the problems and the great colaspe that was the post-WoW era. it was filled with empty promises and broken content, where NDAs closed the blinds on the broken house that was a new MMO. It was filled with Companies who had greatly fallen, Mythics downward sprial since launching DAoC and falling through on promises with WAR, to the point where capital cities and classes were missing from the game. SOE abandoning Vanguard and any pontential that it had. Funcom and the punked press exclaming that Age of Conan was the next step in Gaming, only to see what it really was after Tortage.
But a new time arises, TOR was the big budget game, the money that EA thought they needed to break WoW has gone down the drain, People see what the game is, and it was what the more experienced people thought. Voice over and then a regualar MMO.
But now the info has been let loose, I held myself and my feeling when I first touched this jewel of a game at Comic-Con last summer, I knew things could change. MMOs will not be what they used to be. Everything from massive PvP to npcs chatting along the city streets, these have been shown to exist. THIS IS REAL YOU GUYS.
I am not trying to say GW2 will topple WoW or TOR or any other game out there. But times are changing and gaming companies can not afford be stuck behind the curve. Arenanet moved on and expanded on their own philosophy towards MMOs. This company has stood beside its playerbase from the get go, not in front of it. The information and the attitude of only talking about and promising what is in the game and what is working as well as showing us the changes and explaining why they are different is how you keep your players involved in the product.
Guild Wars 2 is my game, it is your game, this is a new time and a new start for MMOs, and games like Tera and ArcheAge are also part of this. this may not be at strong as the change that WoW brought to the playerbase, but you wont see clones being put up with anymore.
This PressBETA weekend is only the start.....
(not to say the game is whithout flaws or perfect in anyway but the thought on the "changing of the guard" or so-to-speak still holds true)

I cant wait to play GW2 , heck cant believe that the long wait is almost over.
But we should keep our expectations at check.
After all who cares if its best MMO ever , perfect game , game changer - what is important that we enjoy it, and have fun !
Isnt it
I find it annoying how so many people like to jump in and crash the party on the GW2 forums, when in the end, all that would matter is that we would enjoy the game. Not that it would be the best game ever. Like I just finished watching the yogcasts videos on GW2 and what I'm thinking about isn't whether the game is seamless or not or whether dynamic events feel truly dynamic (whatever that means). All I can think about is whether the game is the kind of game I would enjoy spending a good amount of time in and honestly it is.
Guild Wars 2 Beta: Norn Creation and Starting Area Part 1
Guild Wars 2 Beta: Norn Creation and Starting Area Part 2
Guild Wars 2 Beta: Norn Part 3 - Bear Cubs and Swimming
Guild Wars 2 Beta: Norn Part 4 - Personal Story
Cannot wait until I get my hands on it, because I've been waiting so long.
We WANT that Blog Post! Give us the info!
The new dawn is coming. Games such as GW2, Archeage and Blade and Soul (hopefully many more) are starting to finally push the boundaries from the mindless stagnation of the last X years.
Sweet.
How does B&S push the boundaries? From the videos I've seen it seems to share a very similar feel to Tera both in terms of questing and combat. Of course, it's too early to tell and not all features were presented, but from what I've seen so far, I liked the game, but it's not that different than Tera really.
Feels like 25 years ago they gave there first announcement.
This it was arround 27 march 2007 (yes goodgle ) they first announced the game. I was still playing GW 1 back then. haha pretty amazing how longs it's been.
Being hyped for 5 years is tough -_-
The combat systems of TERA and B&S are vastly different. TERA is a more combat oriented trinity style of combat, but I can't define what B&S is. Also group combat in B&S looks like a complete mess, especially in boss fights, so I'm not sure how well that would do.
Well, I'd argue TERA is pushing graphical boundaries and gameplay wise (through its combat) too. I've followed TERA a while, and indeed it's the questing that has turned me somewhat off it, however I respect what their doing with the combat, and will check it out. Blade and Soul excites me more however.
