This is a interview mixed with gameplay and trailers but alas there is actual gameplay mixed into it. it also has a little bit of making fun of GW2 opening but oh well.

I already left a comment days ago on that video. Why so much talking? It's like I'm back in 2008 watching Age of Conan talk-a-thon videos.

Standard MMO gameplay broken up by cutscenes. where is the innovation? in the secondary systems? no leveling a character but leveling skills. no "classes" but it's tank/heal/dps, tab target based....

i'm statrting to understand why it was so tightly under wraps.

edit: i see that characters still don't bend their legs when they jump, still have the same 2 casting animations and melee attacks still look like they're going right trough chracters.

Its not about how many ingredients, its about having the right combination of them.

I believe the dude in the video even said that.

Lol. Here we go again. No classes, no levels, means that you can use any build you like without class restriction; but just like with GW2 that doesn't mean that there is just chaos in team combat and no roles, just that people can be various roles. Roles that btw aren't restricted to trinity ones just as little as in GW2. People can go for hybrid builds, builds that focus on damage deflection or prevention instead of damage recovery, and so on. GW2 is tab target based as well, if you want to look into something really innovative and different - for MMO's - then it's TERA's aim based combat. GW2's as well as TSW's combat differences lie in a different area. TSW for example uses a skill synergy/combo system next to being able to use any mix of the 588 skills that someone might like.

I could go on, but if someone is determined to stay prejudiced and hardcore fanboing over 1 game while bashing all others, well, don't know what use there is in providing more details than I already did.

That looks very nice indeed,i will play this game along with my other choice.I love the real world eartgh concept,in a way this is a mmo made about earth but with a twist.

Better have a top PC to run this baby at top max settings.

    I choose Dragon months ago.

looks interesting enough but the character movements seem a little rigid.  I have to give TERA props for making alot of the character animations really flow, too bad I don't think the actual game looks as interesting as TSW may prove to be.

Nice enough video, but still precious little gameplay. It's good to hear they have thought about build management and have a good system for dealing with it. Short of a non-restricted beta though I'm still going to hold off till after launch / some real gameplay experiences are shared (dev led guided tours don't count).

I thought that Guild Wars 2 joke at the beginning was in extremely poor taste, very tacky, and entirely too long. It was rude, disrespectful and unnecessary. That is a good feature I've not seen before, and I think it is a good idea. There is no reason to make fun of good ideas that make things easier and better for players.

As for what the video was actually about, I kind of loved it. I especially loved the UI and inventory stuff. This is a modern, alt world game, and Light knows I've been waiting for something in that realm for a while now. I really like the clean lines and minimalist look of the interface. That's what a game set in the modern world should have. It would be weird with either fantasy glowy crap or scifi crap. I also really loved the explanation of bags, which I hadn't heard before, or that you can save and load builds. That is something that we don't see often enough in MMOs, especially ones that can have complex theorycrafting and deep builds.

I have said it before, but I am really pleased that more games in development these days are focusing on getting rid of the things that annoy players, waste our time, and make the game less enjoyable. I really appreciate this trend.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

A lot of interviews and little gameplay. Anyway, I really want to see more of the gameplay stuff. It's one of the few mmos I'm actually looking forward to.

Funcom usually has some unique ideas. I hope that they are able to make them all work and put them in game. I know that people are going to translate "ideas" with "promises", but luckily, I don't believe that people with that thought process will even consider this game..

There are a few things that have caught my eye that I felt was out of place. I don't like the fireball animations. Placeholder? Strafe movement, looks bad. Not sure what development phase it is in, hope it's not too late to fix some of these details. Because as we all know, once the game is in open beta, the game is done.

I really like the concepts and will most likely try it out.

The videos are nearly a year old, and I think the animations are still placeholders.

Thanks man, I didn't even think to check the dates on those. I just started checking back into this game a day or so ago.

I hope we get to see how it performs as an MMO when beta invites are sent out on mass, as currently it just looks like a co-op with only a few players on show.

If you liked the character models, animations and body movement in AoC you shouldn't worry about it in this game.

It's the same engine only improved and they use 3D motion capture stuff as seen in the second video in this thread.

I'm big on realism in MMOs so I still consider AoC's graphics, character models and animation the best to date (remember AoC is 4 years old! ) so I'm pretty sure TSW will be top-notch in that compartement.

Further, because of the awesome setting and atmosphere  I guarantee that the game will be entertaining and fun for me.

For how long I can't tell of course but it sure looks like a game I'm gonna play this summer.

I will still need to try an open beta before I purchase though, just to test the tech part of the game (how it runs on my system, lags, disconnects, memory leaks etc).

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

Looks really interesting but I'm quite put off by the implied linearity of content... An old Funcom's gripe. I don't like instancing as well. In short I don't like coorpgs which desperately try to be mmorpgs and thus justify subs. However, I might be wrong. Hell, I want to be wrong because I really love that Illuminatus/Lovecrafty cthulhupunk setting.

It's definitely a game I'm keeping an eye on but I'm not buying it till I get a clear picture what its like after the release.

I don't think the game will feel too linear, probably most to start with. In ordinary games you have an increase miss chance if the opponent is too high level. In TSW they haven't added this, so you can probably group up and go nearly everywhere and go at ok speed, or go alone, but it will be hard and slow. It will be interesting to see how it works out in the end.

The instancing in TSW is quite good, with no load screens between indoor/outdoor in a playfield. Compared to AoC it's much better. (I have played both).

    *rubs forehead*

I knew it was going to be like that on the vid, but you simply can't have horror mingling with the kind of gameplay, where people just stand there and trade off in a war of attrition. I'm getting flashbacks of Tabula Rasa here, and I'm not saying that the tab-targetting combat style is dead and over, it's just not getting the direction it needs. Posture, cover and angular direction of fire is what a game like this needs. As is, it really just seems like everything else out there, and I really had higher hopes for the gunplay.

I came over this really interesting article about one of the dungeons with a good description of how the fights were. http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/secret-world-dungeons/

It highlights how the developers want you to be on your toes when fighting.

Btw, standing still and firing when fighting zombies is dumb, you should move away, jump over fences, etc. That's my experience when playing TSW. One mob a "firefighter"-zombie had a burn dot which you got if you just stand there and get a lot of extra damage. TSW isn't a first person shooter, but neither is it a MMO where it's ok to stand still. It's a compromise which makes combat interesting, but doesn't make it into a full twitch shooter.
