Have you played Age of Conan on maxed graphics? Nothing currently on the market can even touch it. And, I prefer the combat in AoC as well. If AoC had a "truly free" F2P model, I think it would be more popular than it currently is.
I have and i have a ridiclous good pc and AOCs weak dreamenginge cant take even a shot at UE 3 engine used by TERA. Still AoC is the 2nd or 3rd best looking mmorpg around.
I think the only way Blizzard can update their graphics engine is very gradually like how they've been doing it so far. To make this game have Tera graphics from night to morning is possible for them, but they would loose a big chunck of their subscribers who cannot run such graphical levels. And if they were to give us the option of "Big Graphics" or "Small Graphics" they would have to maintain two graphics engines, which is more hassle than it's worth.
Even so, new character models will help. I read somewhere that those new models have ten times more polygons on the face than the old ones. I'm refering to the models like Tyrande, Thrall, etc., that they implemented more recently.
if that's the case, these peoples should better stop playing games and get themselves some jobs to earn some bucks. most decent hardwares and/or PC are so affortable in today's market. i don't see why people can't run such graphical games? And Tera is not demanding at all even at max with my almost near 5 years old PC.
To be fair WoW has dead servers too, mainly becuase blizz has given the population so many servers to choose from is ridiculous and also active play time has gone down, which blizz expected..
That being said, your sooooooooo right about blizz coping person idea and improving on it. It makes you wonder how the ones that came up with the idea didn't see it..
Because Blizzard already has an unassailable advantage: the payer base.
What they basically can do is wait for other developers to roll on the features in their respective games and gauge how those features do. Theyr will improve upon them because they will check flaws of said features on live servers and playerbase feedback... all without having to move a single finger!
Still, couldn't disagree more with the OP (and subsequent answers) here. Not even if WoW came with Crysis, Uncharted, Battlefield, whatever graphics I would play it again. Had a blast the times I played it but none of its features were enough to keep me interested, I can think of other titles that make every single aspect of that game better, but will still have to wait for a developer that decides to put them all together in one single MMO.
I just cannot for the life of me understand why Blizzard don't do this.
They are making over a BILLION dollars every year from WoW, and it would cost maximum 50 million imho to texture the world in not TOR quality, not GW2 quality but proper modern game quality. If WoW looked better than TOR, there would be no reason to play it. I realistically just don't understand why Blizz cannot just spend 5% of their annual income from WoW on a good investment for the future.
Problem is, with model revamps, also come animation updates. With that, you looking at a decay to the famous WoW Smoothness that people speak of in combat. The art has improved over the years, but the smoothness in WoW has gone down over the years as well.

Ive almost stoped to read on that part.
About wow ive lost 4 years of my gameplay life on this crap
You spent 4 years of your life on crap? How can you play something for 4 years and then call it crap.
Seriously Heinz130... I just can't really understand your logic.
When I was young I spent a lot of time playing Pitfall on Atari 2600 (yes, I'm that old)... by today standards that game would have been considered crap, but the fact that I enjoyed it so much as a kid won't let that idea cross my mind.
Updated graphics wouldn't bring me to play WoW again, I haven't played in years now. The reason I quit was the game has just aged as a game. It got so tiring and felt like a chore to log in to do dailies/raids/arenas/farm stuff for those things, all to have to do it all over again when a new expansion came out. I guess the whole pvp/pve gear grind has run its course for me, I can never go back to playing a game where just having the best gear means winning or losing no matter what the persons skill is. Having been in top arena teams and top raiding guilds, I just couldn't do it again.
Wow is a good game and I enjoyed some of the years playing it, it's just not the game for me.
Hate to tell ya... but as a long-time mmo vet, this is par for the course. Every game you play will eventually become this way. Some of these new games will feel really different at first... but after the newness wears.. at their basis they are all repetitive games. It's in their nature to be. Just sayin.
Old school UO wasn't that bad. Hell, people started fighting half naked so they wouldn't lost as much lol. Don't get me wrong, there was BETTER armour, but EVERYONE could get it. It wasn't too hard to get either. But thats what a virtual world gets you, instead of these new crop of games which you are dead on about.
Interesting. I think Tera is the best looking MMO so far, not to mention the combat system.
Subjective at best. I think Tera looks bad. Cartooney, cutsey, fluffy, cudley and juvenile and the combat is bland, uninspiring and clunky because of the self rooting. But like I said its subjective and opinionated and it doesnt make anyone of ours any more right then the next.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
Are you kidding me? TERA's graphics were beyond bad.
How exactly are they bad? Maybe not your style but saying they are bad for an MMO just makes you sound like someone who just hates the game. Don't lie to yoursel.
I just cannot for the life of me understand why Blizzard don't do this.

I think alot of it has to do with performance....Remember they made the game with every PC user in mind.....They wanted their game to be played even on the crappiest of computers.....Having high end graphics limits your customer base somewhat, and makes it more difficult to have masses of players in one area.
Are you kidding me? TERA's graphics were beyond bad.

Or it makes him sound like someone that is not into Asian Anime style graphic MMOs...like me.
Now if WoW had Age of Conan style REALISTIC graphics, I would actually think about going back to it...before remembering the game is a second job and I left it for that reason.
I hope we shall crush...in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country." ~Thomes Jefferson
completly over hauling a graphics engine isnt as simple as that.
The only mmo I know thats ever done it is Eve, and thats taken some 3 years of gradual implementation.
But I agree with your sentiments, CCP (Eve developer) has a paultry 300k subs, Blizzard should have the resources to do it. But while they have 10mil subs and no sign of people leaving then they probably take the stance "why should we?"
But its not just the graphics quality, the graphics STYLE in Tera is radically different too, its very adult.
I am back to wow after i tried so many other games . even my beloved SWTOR. I know haters gonna hate this like always but numbers speaks for themselves. Everything else what i have tried is just so poor compared to wow. It is simply best classic mmorpg pvp with so interesting classes to play. I can tell you how good it is if i say that i leveled now all classes to 85 and i am not bored. So many battlegrounds so many achivements where you get something for reward, awesome huge lands with some kind of special mystical aura and magic sound of forgoten lands. Now we have Darkmoon Faire and i want so hard to get that mount, you can play so many interesting mini games to get Darkmoon prize tickets, it is so awesome and so unique that world of wow. What i would like to see is something like Tera online graphic--well, that would rock and make wow really immortal
if WoW had modern Graphics its player base would go down to 1/3, one of the reasons it is popular is because it is accessible to many people with lower end computers.
Better graphics does not always mean better success.

Remember that graphics and aesthetics are completely different things.
When someone says they don't like "Asian Anime style" and like "Realistic" that really means they prefer one aesthetic over another. WoW's aesthetic is cartoony with mismatched proportions and a very vivid color palette, that has very little to do with the graphical fidelity of the game itself since ANY style can be done with poor to excellent graphics.
In terms of aesthetics Tera is definitely polarizing, especially when compared to something like WoW which completely avoids any uncanny valley effects due to going for the outlandish and not the realistic. But if you are arguing graphics then it would frankly be silly for anyone to say Tera had bad graphical fidelity when it is clearly one of the best looking, if not THE best looking MMO currently released. After all, just because the OP wants to update WoW to Tera online levels of graphics does not mean he wants to change the wow AESTHETICS to the same style as Tera. Maybe he just wants better draw distance, more detailed environments, better textures, rendered character models/armor, improved lighting effects, etc.

I think it is the other way around, games like tera target younger gamers while WoW targets everyone.
yeah I had to laugh out loud at that one. The TERA graphics appeal t the 15-25 crowd most of all. WoW's art style has a broader appeal.
No.
They both have limited definately not broad-appeal , just limited in diffrent ways.
I definately don't like cartoony style in game. I also don't like TERA style too much, though I have to agree that performance vs technical quality of visuals is very good. (I did try betas)

Bah... the art appeal has nothing to do with age. A large portion of my friends are comic book artist... in their 30's. They all love WoW. I'm 31, I love Tera - it's just personal opinion.

It's still tab targeting and it's still a hotbar spamfest. At least try Vindictus out, it's not a great MMO, but it at least stepped away from WoW's silly combat system.
When you only take combat into account, I would rather play on my PS3 than in any MMO. The gameplay in MMO is not very good, I play MMO because they have a community (although even that is disappearing in some), not really because they have good gameplay.
