It was pretty shrewd of ArenaNet to require a full purchase many months before release in order to gain access to the BWEs and head start. Most people’s gaming budgets will have “recovered” from the initial purchase by release and will likely be very willing to spend a reasonable amount yet again in the gem store to give themselves a little leg up at launch.
Very shrewd…a little devious, but very shrewd.
And yea, I pre-purchased and also plan to spend a little more at launch.

Yeah I pan on buying all the acount features first.....
There are times when one must ask themselves is it my passion that truly frightens you? Or your own?
Hate to break the news to you but you don't have to pre purchase the game to get the 3 day head start and particpate in all BWEs.
Crafty is good, I like that they are smart. This game seems to have many fewer head scratching design decisions the mmo's I have tried (outside of wow) in the last 6-7 years. Gaming is much cheaper than any of my other hobbies. I doubt I could spend enough in a cash shop to make it close.
Not anymore, but you had to prepurchase to get intoo the first BWE, and peobably still to get intoo the headstart.
NEedless to stay that for the OP's assumptions it really doesnt matter if you had to or not, a huge group of players did, and for them the assumption of the OP is true, they might be willing to spend money as soon as they get the game.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Yeah, nd since Arenanet will give you a refund on the pre-purchase, it's not like they locked you in an iron clad grip and will force you to eat the loss if you decide the game isn't for you before the head-start.
