i think the best way to do guildhalls and player houseing would be like this take minecraft add in battle pirates and mix weell use instanced neighborhoods like in everquest 1, but more than 1 location only instead of ships yould have siege engines
(if you dont know battle pirates you get a base you expand stuff to resaerch to make your ships and base better defended)
and perhaps with the highest rank guilds you can have a open world hall everyone sees, and consequently attack and takeover if successful
i love minecrafty buildness but theres not much point if you cant do stufff there as well

It was kind of hard to decipher what you were saying there but UO, Darkfall, AC, AoC, and EVE are some of the many MMOs that offer expandable guild structures/regions.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

I would love it if the guild had to collect all the reasources and build it themselves. And then over time upgrade it and pay local taxes based on its size. This would add alot of immersion as well as community.

there are a killtrillion different ways to make good housing but all of them depend on one very important basic philosophy. For it to be good it has to intersect the rest of the game play, in most MMO cases this means your character development.
It cant be isolated fluff.
