It states how much went into development 300,000,000 kroner, which is 50,000,000 USD so less than many recent MMOs.
I noticed X fire had TSW around where star trek online launched, and have seen whoever valuates stocks for video games use x fire a couple of times before.
Article mentions that the CEO changed positions.
Maybe TSW is a later bloomer and will start doing better later on. This may have a grave effect on the game though.

No fan of funcom but after the new job numbers and manafacturing numbers came out everyones stock is falling lol......hope and change ........lol
Who cares! Why dont you just play a game if you like it and stop worrying about how much money they're making.
Every game companies stock is down considerably. It's the economy. Alos them switchng to a new CEO is going to make the stock take a hit in most cases. Would be a good time to buy if you want ot turn a quick profit.

So from your figures they spent 10% roughly of what EA Bioware spent on SWTOR and funcom came out with a 100% better product my my. If you hadn't noticed the stock markets lately btw most stocks are falling :P.

This is peoples jobs and lives here dude. If TSW fails and FC shuts down, lots of people will lose money, like 38 studios. WTF do you even gain from that? TSW is good game to alot of players. What does it failing bring any good. Hell, if it and FC go down, us gamers will get less variety to play. They finally learned from the past when it comes to launch, apperantly. Not playing but many are suprised by it.
Really, please tell me what in the possible mother of earth do yuo get from this? Money? Are you getting payed by somebody? Do you really want to go "HAHAHA i told you so. Funcom and TSW failed. I win"? At the expense of people's jobs?
From what I can tell The Secret World is doing quite well.
I would have serious doubts that anyone is using XFire to rate relative stock values. Not anyone that would be listened to in any event.
TSW hasn't been out long enough for its performance to have an impact, good or bad, on Funcom's stock values. It's more likely that the cost involved with producing the game, and Funcom's current debt is a factor, more than anything. They just spent a bunch of money and some of that investment has come due.
They used Facebook for 'viral' marketing, but I haven't seen a ton of stuff (outside of MMORPG.com of course) for the game. It would be cool if they've structured their investments in such a way that they could start smaller, and then work their way up to a good, sustained population for a long term, money making game. I guess we'll see though.

raw xfire numbers are worthless. xfire is marginally useful for tracking trends, but thats it.
The Secret World is an adult (and I dont mean cursing and boobs) MMORPG, and as such is going to draw a much older crowd than a game like, for example, TERA. As such a much lower percentage of people will be using xfire, as its mostly a generational thing. Yes, these are generalizations and there are 40 year olds that play TERA and use xfire Im sure, buut anyone using xfire numbers is into generalizations anyway.
Maybe you should read the article as it tells you why you should care. I'm just posting a news article about the secret world. The article didn't say "WHY" the stock fell. So am curious as why is always the most important thing in news.
I agree here, the only reason to even hunt this information down adn then try to spin it like Funcom is failing because of TSW is because you're flat out a horrible troll, a huge hater, or a seriously terrible human being. If you're a troll, then congrats you did your job. As a hater, you've gone too far. As a human being.....you seem to be lacking compassion and empathy for what it is to be let go from a job. You don't have to like something, but what has you so wound up that you personally want to see it fail?

Granted they are definitely related, but you're trying to spin this to make it seem like TSW has completely decimated Funcom or something. The box sales for TSW won't even factor in to this yet anyway, it's way too soon for them to be counting the money brought in by the game when it only game out 3 days ago.
Thats why I think it is relevant as EA's stock and SWTOR where all over the news here in the states. SWTOR is when I started to take an interest in the back dealings of gaming. I didn't look it up as the links were posted on another gaming website under "NEWS".

Hmmm. Worrying or buying Funcom stock. Heck, it might even be time to buy EA's stock. If the companies don't fold, the stock will eventually increase in price.

If the article didn't say why the stock fell, then it lacks some value and relevance, no? There's no cause and effect here, just an event. This could be Funcom mismanaging something, killing the game, or the game killing Funcom, or more likely, none of the above.

Guild wars would be the obvious reference. But over time I think some have made profit from client sales.

It's been up to 18 on xfire 2 or 3 behind Aion and Swtor, with half the people using xfire (900 vs 1500) Pretty damn good if you ask me

Guild Wars 1 isnt an MMORPG. Guild Wars 2 will certainly not turn a profit on box sales alone, theres a reason the cash shop is a little more aggressive than some would like. Yes, over time most games will sell enough boxes to cover the initial development cost, but not in the first month or two, which is what we are talking about here.
Secret World is a great game. It's only a few days into launch and no big issues. There a couple of bugged quests. A GM got to me in less that an hour to fix it for me and the issue was patched the next day. It opened with a cheap item shop (clothing and social stuff only), there is a clothing shop in london (uses in game currency) and sellls about 100 or more different outfits and clothing options, the graphics are great, and they are keeping up on any bugs people find. By far this is the smoothest lauch I've ever been a part of. The "no levels" feature people are talking about is genius. ThIs game does not play like a regular mmo. The in game lighting changes while you play. My favorite areas are the creepy houses with a film grain lighting. Your quest make sense. They are not like "kill 10 rats and go back to the npc." They are more like "Discover why this house is haunted and solve the mystery." Then you turn in with your charaters smart phone. They don't spoon feed you the answers either. You have to solve some pretty conplex clues and sometimes the clue is written on a wall or in a phone book.
All in all, a great game with lots of potential.
Well then your question seems pretty loaded since there hasn't been B2P MMO to compare. GW1 was the closest thing. As to the cash shop thing, I don't see it as aggressive at all so only time and changes will tell. I am sure you had a point in there somewhere though.

I agree that TSW sold less than expected (my estimate would be around 300k by now), but it's not the end of the world.

October 2011 it was at 8mil, it jumped closely before release of TSW to about 16mil, then after the release it went down to 11mil, which isn't all that uncommon. Age of Conan had much worse drop (from 55 mil to 7 mil in a few weeks) and it wasn't the end of the world for it either.
