Ok I get it, quest hubs are now yellow circles and are called "dynamic events", and I don´t have to click an NPC before my quest log updates what I have to do.
You know what is NOT dead?
- Kill X
- Collect X
- Deliver X to Y
- Escort X to Y
Seriously, this is called "innovation" nowadays?
This reminds me putting lipstick on a cow. It´s still a cow but at least it´s slightly prettier now.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

Umm actually even NPC in GW2 have these circle over their heads to trigger DE's.
Bite Me
Certain escort DE's have circle triggers sure, but definately very few in comparison to the overall amount. In all honesty, how much sense would it make for am escort DE to not be triggered since the NPC's are needing..... you ..... an escort. Be kinda dumb to have them trigger on their own without anyone around IMO.
To the OP, you come off as very bitter. Of course these key elements are stil around in a themepark MMO, but the delivery is what the concept was all about and you seem to have missed that among the many times the topic has been brought up here on these forums.

Naw fucking dip...lol you guys try to hard.
At nikkita...out of curiousity, you mean all of them or you talking about escort quests where it makes since because they need someone to escort them? Actually nvrm lol.
Now this, right here is pathetic lol not what nikkita said but to the what the OP said lol. Enjoy life, peace.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
OP,
What sets GW2 apart is not the activities you engage in but how they are presented. Up until now the world waited for you to talk to someone so the story, err quests, could happen. This made the while experience seem stiff and pointless once you'd done it for so many years.
You are correct, you still quest, it is just done differently. Arenanet said they would change how you quest. They did.
Is it innovative. Yes if it is better, no if it is not. But since that is subjective, its hard to say. I personally enjoy it over the quest hub. And I believe that most people looking at the postive and negatives of DE vs. Quest Hubs would come to the same conclusion, that it is better. So yes, IMO it is innovation.
Just curious, without questing what exactly are we suppose to do in MMO's?
WoW-style:
- go to quest hub, talk to ?, get quest to kill 10 cows.
- go to the circled area, kill 10 cows.
- return to quest hub, talk to !, then find another ? to kill 10 bigger cows.
GW2 style:
- wander from a->b, join a DE in the middle but you eventually get there.
- start killing 10 cows, only for orcs to attack.
- fight off the orcs, and follow the local warrior to the orc village.
- in their village, destroy it, only to discover the orc chieftan...
- whilst in the village also complete the jumping puzzle and explore the nearby cave, discovering a chest of loot.
- notice that killing the orcs counted towards the cow completion, so wander off towards c - along the way a dog runs up and explain's that timmy's trapped down a well with an ogre...
If that specifically is what you are going to complain about then maybe you should stop playing MMOs alltogether, because there is no way you can get around doing that stuff.
If you're going to complain about something at least pick something that makes sense. The vast majority of games out right now make you do stuff that falls under those categories when you look at them.
If you are so smart why don't you come up with something that's never been done before?
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.
I triggered these NPC with circles over there head not just for escort. I also triggered a event this way where i had to disguise a seperatist and sabotage a charr fire legion base. Another one i trigerred where we had to attack the base which later on developed into a very big event with a giant attacking the town.
So not limited to just escorts. Anyways, OP seems to be under impression that in GW2 NPC don't give you tasks or quests like in your usual everyday MMOS.
Bite Me
RPGs will always involve those things. There is literally no getting around it.
Even SPRPGs involve those things...I mean, how is "go from point A to B in a dungeon" any different than a fetch quest? What matters is the presentation. If an SPRPG told you "go to the end of the dungeon and right click on the table" that would be boring. But if it sets up a story that involves you and you know that you have to get to the end of the dungeon to stop your sister from being sacrificed...then maybe that's more interesting. Regardless though, you will still be doing a fetch quest in the end.
So really, if you have a big problem with those base elements of quests, then maybe you just don't like RPGs.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Nooooo!!!! *sobs openly* Why god why?!?! They were so young
*raises his tankard of ale* To Quest hubs, may they find new life in a future generation of games

No, what is not dead but completely sidelined (hearts: just something to pass some time or to get map completion) is the npc waiting in the middle of a village with a marker on his head telling you to slaughter daisy-picking monsters because they are alledgedly "attacking his village". In GW2, yeah, you have to kill a bunch of the attackers, but they are definitely attacking. And if you listen to NPCs, you'll see they are attacking for a reason. And the events branch into one another, so that in the end, the world feels like it has its own backstory.
BTW, what were you expecting to do in a MMORPG? Sit around? Find me an activity that is neither killing mobs, killing a boss, solving a puzzle/riddle, escorting someone, protecting or invading a place and that fits in an MMORPG context? I'll bet that for most they are in GW2 -although a minority- and the rest are either ideas of a great video game genius that Anet hasn't thought about or just not interesting.
It's like saying an ad about GW2 should have nearly no in-game footage and show none of the super features that make the game. Anet tried that too and they're much better off when they innovate without trying "artistic" and dumb stuff
I'll tell you what my problem is. X and Y sure get around.
Not judgin' but just sayin'

A lot of players, myself included, missed starting a lot of DEs because we didn't realize that person asking for help actually started DEs. They either needed a tutorial to explain this to new players or needed to mark those npc's somehow.

Try a MUD today at http://www.mudconnect.com/Yet another absurd topic. In all of fiction, there are 7 archtypes to story line. Should people stop writing books because everyone of them has been done to death?
Of course not.
And so it goes in games. You have delivery, you have destruction, you collection, you have escorting. These are archtypes. What matters is the set-up and execution. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Well the point still stands. If there is a visual trigger it is because of the event and not because these are normal. I don't think this is what the OP was saying at all, he was labeling quest hubs as yellow circles called DE's and he doesn't have to click a NPC to begin said quests. As I just stated, aside from a few exceptions, he is correct on that part at least. The rest seems like an angry rant because he wanted to play a MMORPG and he got one.
I chose the escort example because most of the ones with visual trigger I have encountered were of this variety so I didnt feel the need to go into every example. I see you didnt have that problem >.>.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
And lots don't. There is a DE in Queensdale lumber mill. You have to find the unmarked NPC to trigger it. There is a DE at the Queensdale lodge, you have to find the unmarked NPC to trigger it. There are more DEs in Queensdale that are rarely done because they require triggers and very few us have found them. There are still FIVE of the THIRTY-ONE DE chains in Queensdale I haven't done because they're not automatic and I don't know which NPC to trigger and, so far, nobody in any of those areas has figured it out either! And when I bring up my new elementalist, I'll make her a human to see if I can find those five quests...
This game rewards people who don't play it like WoW, SWTOR or some other lame quest-hub MMO. And for that, I am grateful.
WoW is a disease that will infect your brain and your computer.
I wish some GW2 bashers would read what you wrote. You nailed it perfectly...
I agree that most of them are boring. As to the WoW portion I disagree because in WoW the quests were the same when you went to a different zone. How many poo quets were there again I cant remember? How many times did I need to collect or kill something in a different zone? I guess we can agree to disagree because I certainly remember doing the same shit repeatedly in WoW in different zones. There were certainly some memorable moments, but I have already found quite a feww hidden nuggets in GW2 that are above and beyond WoW's IMO.
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
SInce you scale down why not just explore all of Queensdale and speak to every NPC?
