At the end is all about tastes...but GW2 Soundtrack is pretty well done in my opinion & very catchy too!
I love it.
Well after listening to those tracks I have top agree with the OP the music is rather uninspiring genric fanstasy music, the Charr get a tribal drumming track, what are they Orcs from WoW?, the Syvarii get a bright Harp lead track is this the Elven starting zone in LotRO? this is not really pushing the creative envelope I must say and Fear Not This Night has lovely vocals but very lacklustre backing in a faux epic style similar to Oblivion's main theme, so overall pretty poor effort. But to Jeremy Soules defence this is a commision and maybe Arenanet wanted the music this way, classic fantasy themed and he just pushed it out for the fat check and thats why he's not doing any more for GW2.

The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true.
While Jeremy Soule is still not yet up to the level of John Williams, I think he'll get there someday. He just keeps getting better and better. GW2 has some good themes.
Type Jeremy Soule into Pandora, I do this quite a bit when not listening to John Williams or Johann Sebastian Bach or Anthrax radio. Good stuff. Now if only I could get the two to mix. 80's-90's Thrash with Classical, yum.
Yes,it seems that gw2 follows in the steps of rift and war ,the music in all these games was quite bland to me .The only exception is the gw1 theme song which i still remember from that game even if i played it much less than i played gw2 ,too bad the rest is not close in quality.Everquest 2 ,Wow,Aoc ,Eve and Lotr still have the best soundtracks .

My guess is that in the case of GW2, the music is supposed to support what's going on but not be to intrusive. It's like seeing a movie where you are always aware of the musical score over what's going on in the film.

Its hard to put my finger on what I think is missing. Its not bad music, most of it is really good.. but for me, it is bad game music. I think it's just not lively enough. It's not emotional enough. It doesn't bring the gameworld to that next level, the way really good game music can do. It doesn't evoke the imagination, giving the impression of a lot more going on that what we can see.
Also.. when people post entire tracks, it seems misleading. Maybe part of the problem is the way the music is implemented, because I don't hear all that in the game. I've got music turned all the way up, interval all the way down.. and it seems like I hardly hear any of that. Just these brief generic pieces that repetitively fade in and out.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

It could be you've heard the "themes" of the music in so many other games that it just doesn't grip you like it should that happens with moden music that sounds like bands of yesteryear its one of the reasons many older people see modern things the way they do, been there, bought the t-shirt sort of thing. Many have said in this thread that the music is very similar to GW1 and I can hear Oblivion's music in it to and it doesn't deviate to much from that format, maybe he needs to move on from he previous compositions rather than rehashing them.

It isn't similar - a decent chunk of them are from GW1, which is great for veterans.
The musics aren't forgettable because when I listen to them I can remember the zones of the game, both GW1 and GW2, that are associated to them.

Though there is only one track played in Guild Wars 2 that is legitimately not forgettable to me.
Guess what. It's a Guild Wars track that hasn't been altered in any way that is played in Guild Wars 2. This track was memorable in Guild Wars 1 and it is still memorable in Guild Wars 2. This track is creative and beautiful. The new tracks in Guild Wars 2 lack such a soothing and atmospheric melody this track has. If it wasn't for this one track, I would have muted Guild Wars 2 music a long time ago.
This is your personal problem. It is a valid personal problem. But it's still just your personal problem and has no validity beyond your personal issue.
