I didn't play the old games so i'd like to ask everyone for some info. First of all, i'd like to say i don't hate themeparks and won't hate or dis FFXIV for it and will keep an eye on regardless. However, what i am tired of mmorpgs which consist of "finishable" content and then are left grinding until updates.
From what i've heard of FF, there's no PVP, which is perfectly fine. Is it true?
Also, how does the PVE differ from the standart formula. It seems heavily group oriented, which awesome, but is it forced grouping ? Also, how do quests, story and dungeons work in this game?
I also read about housing, rasing chocobos, deep gathering and crafting, mini-game, etc. Wil there be lots of non combat activities?
And of course, as i asked in the beginning, what kinds of mechanics or systems exist to create more perpetual content? The non combat activities perhaps?
EDIT: After the responses, i made a post with some follow up question down the thread. If you guys coud answer them aswell, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

Current version is shutting down in less than a week. Try watching this even though it's long, it should answer some of your questions. You can use the subtitles on it.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.
FFXI Character: Satimasu
FFXI Server: Valefor
FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil
we dont know how will be new gameplay yet. Game is in Alpha and not all content will be there at launch. Probably will be use Themepark system and not Sandbox.
The great difference probably will be Graphics and Game Immersion. They work hard on main story lines.
Thing that separates it from generic themepark:
Armory system (can play any combat class, crafting class, gathering class by switching weapon/tool)
That's it. Housing will not be in the game at release, chocobo raising might not be either. Housing will be instanced, and therefore will have absolutely no role in the gameworld. It's just fluff content that takes you outside of the game.
And the only reason there's no PvP is because SE cant be bothered finishing it and releasing it for ARR. It will come as an update and be purely isolated to a specific region + an arena so you won't have to participate if you dont want to.
As for combat, the combat is based off the staple MMO formula from 10 years go (healer, tank, DD), with tab target. It will be solo-oriented for the quests, because SE are copying WoW and making solo progression.
Just imagine WoW in a FF skin and you have FF: ARR.
The developer Yoshi has repeated several times they consider WoW to be "the global standard" and so are copying it as much as possible, while maintaining the "final fantasy feel", whatever that means.
Roaming primals are instanced fights. ( it's not even worth mentioning this as a novel feature).
Where did they ever say Hamlet defense will be open world?
Thank you very much for the responses guys. Some follow ups if i may.
I had already heard about making FF closer to WOW and read that it was mostly about the UI. Is the quest system really being changed to be similar aswell? From by knowledge, FF mmo questing is usually alot more group oriented with "epic quest lines" instead of hundreds of "mini quests" like normal themeparks. Is this correct?
Also, i read on the wiki about the activities you meantion like Caravan Security, Hamlet Defense, Skirmish, etc. I thought they where open world, potentially randomly spawning, events. Are they really all instanced away?
And with that, i have to ask, is the world seamless or zoned? And besides dungeons and housing (which is fine with me BTW), what else isn't seamless?I heard changes about it have been made from 1.0 to 2.0.
Not calling this poster a liar, but I would advise anyone against taking any random poster's statements as solid fact on the internet without some kind of links or proof to back it up.
Some people like to talk like they are experts without actually knowing anything for sure, especially when they don't personally like a game and want to see the worst in it (or want it to just 'fail'). Worth bearing in mind.
The only reason why the original version tanked so hard was because it wasn't your standard themepark. That is why they are releasing it again by inculding more themepark elements into it.
From whatever i have read and sen so far. There is not much to differentiate it from your standard themepark other than that it is FF game.
Well that's a shame, was looking forward to it but seems like yet another wow clone. Won't last, imo.
Please don't say stuff like that it gives me a deja vu feeling from FF XIV first month of release. Fans were saying similar things, we know how that worked out for Tanaka and co.
sigh... please bear in mind what I posted before... you don't know this guy and have no reason to believe anything he says is true or motivated by anything but the need to bitch on the game until he provides the requested sources.
To base an opinion (as you do) off another's unsupported opinion isn't a good thing.
Why don't you post sources to dispute it. If everyone has to produce a reference annex for all their posts this forum would be empty. All you have done is said source and insulted the poster, source a rebuttal if you feel so strongly.
Eh? The onus is on the poster trying to claim something to give evidence. That's how it works in court and also how it works in science. Until he gives evidence to support his claims he should not be taken seriously.
The general tone of his post makes it rather obvious that he has nothing positive to contribute anyway.
SONY won't be affected, you got that right.... lmfao
About the WoW clone comments: I doubt 2.0 will become that. I do know the devs have been playing WoW, but that doesn't necessarily mean they did it to copy it. I do hope they learned how to make a functional UI, though...
I'll try 2.0, and I hope it turns out great. I'm pretty sure it won't, but I really, really hope I'm wrong about that.
Because I am, obviously, not disputing it am I?
I am just asking someone that is making statements as fact and whatever what their sources are. You don't think that's valid? Why not? I would expect anyone to do the same of me if I presented them in the same way.
How have I 'insulted' him? By suggesting we don't take anyone's opinion, especially when presented as facts, on the internet at face value? o.0
I don't what twisted dimension you belong to but in this dimension the burden of proof is on someone who makes a claim and no the party which asks for some credible source to back up that claim.
Thank God you are not a lawyer.
Well, click on my username profile and see that Ive followed this game since beginning. I don't want it to fail. I was just regurgitating SE's own philosophy, which is "copy WoW" and "Final Fantasy feel". Obviously both two very vague things, but you get the gist, even from that.
And if SE say "hamlet will be more open style", and yet they made "roaming primals" into instanced content, then it honestly doesn't really mean anything to say "more open style". In SE's head, that could still mean instanced.
Anyhow, if you like WoW and you like the "FF feel" (whatever that is), then you will possibly like FFXIV.
It was the vague foundations of your rock solid seeming statements that I was really talking about. You run a long way, it seems, on presumption, interpretation, and 'gists'.
How about we wait until we see some alpha/ beta facts before we get carried that the game is this or that?
For myself though, I have never played WoW tbh, but yeah I do enjoy traditional MMORPGs alongside other game styles. I make no apology or secret of that.
If FFXIV can deliver a trinity based quest driven game with awesome visuals and the feel and lore of FF then that's fine for me. In fact, it's just what I am looking for from it right now. I'm not one of these guys screaming for everything to be new new new because I am simply not bored with the classic model (though I am bored with bad linear unambitious implementations of it).
As was said previously, the biggest difference is the Armoury system, which provides greater flexibility for choosing to play with a single character as opposed to a character farm.
Another notable difference is the fact that Japanese are making the game. Though they are mimicking the functions of Western and Korean MMO's, the way they go about it can be different (but is not necessarily). This is true for every genre really.
If the fact it's a Final Fantasy game doesn't raise your eyebrows then there really isn't too much of a reason to play it over other themeparks. The graphics are great and the art style is fantastic, it's a big budget release. Take it or leave it!
Because that's not the way it works.
The onus is on the one making the claims to back up what they say. It's not on others to "prove them wrong".
There's absolutely nothing wrong in asking someone to cite their sources. If what Alyosha's saying is true, and comes from a valid source, then they should have no problem providing links to those sources.
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.
Strange cuz what u said wont be in there, i heard will be in the game...also heard chocobo breeding and racing will be in the game.(like in FF7) housing will be in the game and much more but no one can be shur right now due to next to NO information!

Sounds awesome! It's a shame more devs don't get the WoW model.
