No Panth, I'm a gamer and member of these forums long before a game designer.
I'm active here because for every one person trying to flame and defame me, there actually are 5 that have a genuine interest in the game. This isn't a money grab for me. I make money already. This is a labor of love for all of us working on the game as nobody is getting paid major salaries. Luckily some of the team members do very well in their day jobs as developers for major companies and are working on GM because they love the project. We share the same goals for GM.
I probably should just leave this forum alone and let it become the typical which hunt that I see so many others become, but honestly, I have been trying to inform people as to the facts as they are available.
Have you tried the latest version of our house building tool?
I love it! As do many others! We are making progress on multiple systems and starting to bring those systems together. I just want people to judge the game on what they see as its completed, not continue running around shouting from the rooftops with assumptions and accusations with no merit. Yes, it bothers me to have a hand full of people who do nothing but tear down what we are working so hard to build when its obvious that it's their only intention. Not an interest in the game itself. Just a new target.
I'm done for the day. Enjoy

Ha, his experience with Unity sounds a lot like mine. . learned a few things. . bought a few assets. . learned a few things that made me realize how little I knew. . learned more etc.
Nothing wrong with starting out like that. I would always suggest starting and finishing something smaller first so that you know what hurdles you might face in a larger project. I got a bout 30% of an RPG done and realized I just did not have the coding knowledge to finish it. I also learned enough things that made me want to redo everything I had already done.
Best of luck. Kickstarter does not force anyone to back anything. I am not about about to back something at a tech demo level myself.
In wanting to make educational apps for ios and android, I realized that if I was going to make something competative I would need someone else to do the art etc. I will continue working on it. It is only a scam if the person heading it knows they can not complete it etc.
To me it was all about the rewards on the kickstarter and them being exclusive. The main reward I wanted was to have a village with 16 parcels. My plans were to play the game for years and if I ever did quit I could sell to make some money back or lose it when the game shut down. Now though I think my money is lost since I won't be paying the 10 sub for a FREE TO PLAY game to be able to sell of my lands.
This game and pathfinder online are going to provide us forum goers a lot of amusement in the near future. At least those of us who aren't buying into these games.
I want to apologize OP. There was a thread very similar to this one about a month ago. In that thread it was brought to light that OP had applied for a position to work on the game and was denied. Looking through your history, that person does not appear to be you.
Again I know nothing about the game, not taking sides on who is true and who is stretching things, but doing things like this makes me think of crabs in a barrel.

I have seen this many times, these Engines promise a lot but do forget to tell you that you still have to do all the coding to actually get a working game. It is a long learning process.

Exactly what the Unity pro's told Mr. Appleton when he immediately went from 0 - 100 and started his own game studio to make a MMO. I have seen developers close to a nervous breakdown over problems in their netcode. This stuff is highly mathematical and technical in nature and even big companies still struggle to this day with lag and seamless worlds.

A sound plan, which for some investing early into Project Entropia or Second world has payed off more than handsomely. Right now however it does not look very good for your investment. I wish you the best however.

"Give players systems and tools instead of rails and rules"
I took the time and looked through my portfolio and found something i am at liberty to disclose.
I am currently supporting a group of amazingly talented people from Germany that made their own Motion Capture system. You heard me right, DIY style. Not only do these people have my utmost respect for pulling this off, they are also German and i think we can all agree that part from starting world wars (kidding) they are also very good at engineering. I see you are driving a Merc there yourself Mr. Appleton
You will be hearing more from these guys soon. Maybe you can make a deal with them creating some custom Motion capture for GreedMonger or getting one of their Libraries full of professional quality MoCaps. I'd be happy to make the contact and introduce you.
Cheers

I said many times here that i do think you genuinely want to make this game and that this might not be a scam...
It probably would be easier to backpedal if you had named the thread differently.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre
So did he answer the question about the 2nd Kickstarter campaign?
And whether or not it was neccesary to complete the game?
Unfortunately No, this is one of the biggest questions in my point of view as it sums up all the fears most current investors have with the changed plans of making it subscription based, pay to win item shop funded or basically just one big pyramid scheme online casino like Project Entropia.
I hope he will answer at some point.

Matter of fact is that Mr. Appleton deceived people in that kickstarter campaign, saying things like: "I've published magazines, managed bands..", when in fact he has only worked with ONE college band and tried to distribute ONE ad funded and printed entertainment schedule news letter certainly not a magazine. It is still there on the Kickstarter page for everyone to read.
I strongly believed that this was a scam and with the question about the 2nd Kickstarter still unanswered i am not convinced it is not. After careful review and reading what Mr. Appleton said here, there is a possibility that this is might not be a scam, just an overconfident person with no clue about game development genuinely trying to make his dream game.
Everyone has to draw his own conclusion.

I am glad you enjoyed it, while i admit it is funny and i had a good chuckle when i disovered all this information, i do feel sad for the people that backed this project, because they will all things considered lose their investment.

Watching this project's arc is going to be the most amazing slow motion trainwreck, imo.
It's a celebration of ill informed good intent.
Could not have said it better. It's going to be really fun, get your popcorn.
Your salivation at the prospect of someone else not succeeding and your refusal to be honest about your intentions (you *are* personally attacking Jason here, and you *are* labelling this as a scam, despite denying doing both) dosen't paint a very good picture of you tbh.
No doubt your campaign here will appeal to others with the same questionable mindset as you and you will have others approval to affirm what you are doing is 'good', but... well... you get it.
As you insinuate that you are a professional working in the games industry, and that's why you cannot indentify yourself, I have to question your motives now.

I don't buy that "I cannot identify myself" crap. I have yet to see a case where someone said that and wasn't just talking out their ass. It's right up there with "I can't divulge my sources, but you're wrong."

I also like the part where he says 'I try to be objective'...
I honestly do not think he even reads what he writes. It is all so contradictory.
"I said many times here that i do think you genuinely want to make this game and that this might not be a scam..."
"Might" is most commonly used to express possibility. It is also often used in conditional sentences. English speakers can also use "might" to make suggestions or requests, although this is less common in American English.
"I strongly believed that this was a scam"
Note the use of the past tense here, referring to my initial conclusion (hence the tread name)
The past tense is a grammatical tense whose principal function is to place an action or situation in past time.
"there is a possibility that this is might not be a scam"
Again the word "might".
Dude, you need to sit down your various personalities and tell them they all need to get on the same page.
You obviously need to learn to read and understand the english language. Are you a native speaker because you seem to not understand the use of past tense or words like "might" or "possibility".
Taus... you clearly state that this *is* a scam, in the title no less, and then you seem to think that it might not be... that's the contradiction that Lok is talking about. Making personal attacks on him, and attempting to hide behind semantics doesn't make you look good here. Again, you are not coming off well at all in this thread IMO.
ASo, answer us one question, so we know where you stand;
Do you think this is a scam or not? If you do not, if you think it just *might* be, change your thread title.
As you insinuate that you are a professional working in the games industry, and that's why you cannot indentify yourself, I have to question your motives now.

I am not saying i am working in the games industry, i say i am semi-retired. I am saying i invest in games amongst other ventures.
What is it with people these days not understanding english anymore?

'Is This Game a Scam?: Read and decide' would be a better title and make you look more sure of what it is you are actually thinking and trying to communicate.
For someone repeatedly attacking others on their English comprehension you don't seem very eager to broadcast a very clear message.

Look, there is no point in discussing this with you since we have different opinions, which is fine. This has already derailed into you and Mr. Appleton trying to make this about me and my credibility when in fact i do not need any credibility at all, since i have clearly provided enough evidence backed up with links and posts by Mr. Appleton himself right here in this thread.
We can play this game and i start asking who you are to make any judgment about me and this will derail even more into personal insults and attacks and eventually get locked by an admin.
I will not play this game with you, you will have to find someone else as a target.
An ad hominem (Latin for "to the man"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an argument made personally against an opponent instead of against their argument.[1] Ad hominem reasoning is normally described as an informal fallacy,[2][3][4] more precisely an irrelevance.[5]

Standard tactics by forum trolls. They make it about the person because they can not argue against the intial argument or facts. Not worth my time and only derails the thread.

I am actually giving you advice with which to convey your point better and in a way that you might not have to resort to attempting to attack others on their English comprehension.

That being said I do think there are things about the development of this game that made me wary about putting any money near it. For starters the way the lead guy jumps around careers I have to think will he really be able to stick with this one thing till it's completed. Just how experianced is the lead in game development are his ideas able to be developed properly by the people he has working for him. None of that adds up to scam in my book it does add up to a high likelyhood that any money that goes into it isn't coming back though.
