User Interfaces modding was Inroduced in Dark Age of Camelot through the second expansion. In today's gaming world, you can practically throw a rock in any direction in the digital sea and hit a player that has modded the game's interface. What's everyone's thoughts on this? I personally feel that UI addons assist the majority of players, but it significantly dumbs down certain aspects of the game that would otherwise easily seperate the average player from the talented player.
I couldn't imagine playing Dark Age of Camelot and utilizing a mod that pointed out which character was a healer; it would have ruined the experience for me. If its hands glow blue, your sword must past through!

Modding is good so long as people dont go overboard. Case and point Everquest ended up with a mod that allowed you to see what the loot for the dungeon you just entered was. Thats not a mod, thats a exploit.
But a Mod that adds things like a ingame notepad, the ability to move UI settings, Cast Bar relocators. These are good mods that don't make the game play itself.
Because i can.

Logic every gamers worst enemy.
I liked the way how DAoC's UIs were like. And I really enjoyed trying many custom UIs. It was completely different from WoW's one since DAoC's one just had stuff like icons, quickbars, UI-surface skin, healer's helper and group window ... Sometimes there were even additional freelance-icons for stick/follow/attack/sprint ... But since everybody keybinded them anyway they were pretty useless in my opinion.
I doubt that there will be macro-sh*t like in WoW therefore some UI-modding would be cool.

Holy Snap, that's a bad player.. addons are playing the game for him/her.
Adding functionality that isn't in the game such as moving toolbars or reskinning is fine.
Adding widgets to allow players to exploit the game or play the game for them is not cool.

What about hardware like a Naga Mouse or Sidewinder Keyboard? Out of the box with no drivers, I can press any key from the number "1" key to the "+/=" key with my thumb.
If I can buy those things, but UI modding is not permitted; does that make the game "pay-to-win"?
Again,, adding functionality that helps a player play in a more ergonomic way, especially if it's not in the game is fine.
All you are doing is altering the interface or remapping controls so that you can play comfortably. A naga mouse does just that.
Adding a widget to that let's you know what loot is in a cave has you automatically heal the person about to die or that taps information in the game to give you an advantage is "not cool".

Well said, Sovrath. /agreed
I did vote No, but I aint against it.
I just never used addons, I have no problems with UI's, they are what they are and I will addept. If I really need to use addons to make my gaming experiance better then I feel the game wasn't good enough to begin with. Which doesn't mean that those who use it do it because of what I said. But it's pure based on me personaly.
Then again I also do not use guide's, skill calculators or other outside game sources. I play what is given and not what I need to add to enjoy something.
I like to mod my UI. But for me it's just an aesthetic thing. I just like a small minimalist UI. I think addons that do things for you or playthe game for you aren't cool.
In WoW there really were a ton of addons you needed to do instances/raids in PvE for the 100th time because you needed that PvE gear to do harder Raids that you would again farm. To me that is why I dislike PvE its a predictable grind and feels like a job. When you have to watch a movie to entertain yourself while playing a game, then game clearly isn't entertaining you, it's not fun and its a failure of the design in my mind.
