Just bought, downloaded and installed the game today. after playing for about two hours, I feel like i just threw away 60 bucks. I am playing as a human engineer, only level 4. I dont even know if I want to log on anymore. Please tell me it gets better and I'm just getting the wrong first impression :[

People are going to jump in here and say....
The game gets better at level X or wait unitl you get skill Z or how can you judge a game after only a couple hours of play, or maybe the engineer class isnt for you blaa blaa blaa.
I can say the game formula is identicle for all levels througout the game. So if your not really impressed now you most likely wont feel or see anything radically different as you level.
I have an end game engineer and actually had more fun at lower levels. So thats my 2 cents. Maybe GW2 isnt a good fit for you long term. It really had nothing to keep me around but I had an okay time leveling.
I play MMOs for the Forum PVP
Engineer is not very fun. Try another class.

^ agreed i don't like engineer personally but love mesmer, guardian, thief, and ele my suggestion op try all classes to at least 10 and see if any grab you oh also try another race also.. some races stories are much more interesting than others imho also some races starting areas are more interesting to me than others
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
People wont do that, because it would be sugarcoating. What I want to do is the correct your text with heavy hand, but I wont do that either.
Now back on topic, engineer is boring class to play. The end. Play something else and if you still cant find the enjoyment out of it, then this game is not for you. Anet does give refunds if you try hard enough.
i would.. game looks amazing at max details as you can see in my screenshot thread

It's not for everyone. I had a friend buy it and not even make it to level 5 before quitting as well. He was coming from Tera so maybe other games are just slow to him now. I dunno. I think GW2 has an awesome combat system.
I will say this: IMO the PVE and leveling and exploration is the best part of the game. So no, if you're bored already, it's probably not going to get better. You'll just hit the content wall at 80 and quit like I did anyways prolly.

If you are burned out on an MMO right now (say, WOW), you'll also be burned out on GW2, imo. It is different, but once you have been logging way to many hours on any MMO and burn out, I dont think you'll find anything with holding power.
I am speaking from personal experience here. Played WoW a long time. Took a significant break and am enjoying GW2 quite a bit. Love that it isn't endless treadmill and I love the beauty of the zones and quests. What I love mosts is having a toon that is a Warrior but that has different weapon skills, traits, and utility skills, unlike WOW where whenever you see a druid, you know exactly what spells and abilities they have.
My big beef with the game is that they have levels at all.
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
I've been off games for a while. There are a ton of people on here like me, played EQ early 2000s, had a little encounter with WoW. from then on, mmorpgs have been getting worse and worse.. Eve online wasnt too bad, but i never really gave it much of a chance. I might go back to Eve and give it a try actually. (EQ was definitely the best mmorpg I've ever played, but they changed it way too much)
what type of class do you normally play in MMOs might give better idea of what class you may like in GW2

I didn't really care for it personally. I know many will disagree, but I found the quests got old and repetitive fast, which is odd considering that was supposed to be the point in having the quest system that it has.. To each his own I guess. To better answer your question, the game does open up a bit, but not much. I will say that you should probably stick it out a tad longer. Many suggest trying new classes, but I would suggest trying new weapons as well. For me, new weapons offered the biggest change in playstyle other than class. For example, equipping a 2 hander instead of a sword and board made my warrior 1000 times more enjoyable to level with.
It may be that the game just isn't for you. A large portion of the game is exploration, for example. If you're one that prefers to take the quickest path at all costs, then that's just fine, but GW2 probably is not suited to your specific tastes.
I thought the engineer class was there to actually regrow interest in the game for those moments when you think you feel like uninstalling the game.
I tried several classes and you know, it's all the same. The engineer is quite cool with the kits, it gave you some variety in playstyle. The ranger is the most boring of all, I guess they wanted the ranger to be the typical ranger/hunter from other games. Elemental is meh, all the attunements feel artificial and fabricated.
I've played the guardian and I don't really understand what he's about.
In fact I don't understand what the whole combat is about. It's all about boons apparently, boons, debuffs and buffs. And they're all extremely short when applied.
I think the engineer is a good choice actually, for sake of variety.
depends what class you play and what spec you are as combat will be about differn't things for differn't classes/specs

lol.. sounds exactly like my experience.
No, it didn't get better, played until 40 or so then requested and got refund, which I have to admit was a generous act by Anet.

yeah.. a 2 hour trial would have been nice.
Yes but how much do specs change to your playstyle? And I'm not just talking about which buttons you hit. I've learned that to play the elemental correctly you have to keep switching between attunements to reach full potential. So whatever spec it is you play in, you'll do the same thing but perhaps follow another sequence.
EVGA FTW-3 MOBO X58
EVGA GTX 580
G.SKILL RIPJAW 12GB

CORSAIR H70 CPU COOLER

well classtype doesnt really matter to me. sometimes I'm warrior, actually more times than not I usually tank. I also like ranger and magic classes.
*edit
I mean so far it has just been quest after quest. I'm not sure why every mmorpg does this now. I spent 30 minutes watering corn and feeding cows in guildwars 2.. partying up to kill certain mobs (without the drive to complete a quest) is something i would look forward to
if you are following another sequence how are you doing the same thing?
yes you are going to push buttons and mobs will die like all games but in how you do it you have a lot of playstyles..
for example most classes are proficient in both melee styles and ranged. Most can do condition or burst, some rely on avoidance some on causing blinds, stuns, dazes and more control playstyle then some rely on more distractions like mesmer.. my mesmer has completely differn't playstyles depending on how i build her and what weapon sets I use, how i use my illusions, what illusions i use and how I'm traited will very much determine how I play my class

It's a stellar themepark, if that is what you are looking for. An increasing number of people are burned out on them and want more. We're all waiting for some of these new games with more emergent gameplay coming this year and next year.
Honestly, I find LOTRO to be a better themepark because it doesn't feel as contrived and linear as GW2 feels.
ANet keeps talking about how they want GW2 to feel like a living world, but the more they try, the less it does IMO.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
