In Dark Age of Camelot (and WAR, as well as a few other games) there were plenty of bragging rights available for top performing players. Top RP [weekly/monthly/server], Last Man Standing (kill versus death ratio), Top Kills [weekly/monthly/server], Deathblows [weekly/monthly/server], and more.
However, for the most part bragging rights are more geared toward the DPS crowd and not necessarily the support class crowd. It's true that the support class will fall into the Top RPs and Last Man Standing categories, but what does the CU community think about leader boards for top healing, most resurrections, etc for healers?
If you're in favor, how would you go about implementing it fairly? This post isn't a discussion regarding the viability of leader boards or whether they should exist it all, but rather targeting the fact healing classes are usually forgotten in the bragging rights category.

I remember when they implemented rps for rez, but there wasn't rps for heals. Healers waited till somebody die, so he could get rps for rez
So if there was statistic for rezzing it might be a little going not good way
Maybe for healing it would be good, but it should detect if heal was due to player being hit by enemy or due to a player jumped from high distance.
Anyway stats like that are important. People like to brag and like to compare with others.

I like your way of thinking!!! That would be sweet, even if it was a graphical thing effect!

I like that idea. If you appear on the top 10 of any list your character is worth far more on the battlefield.
i'm not thinking too deep on that thought yet, but i think that one of the ways that healers could get either XPs, RPs, or whatever recognition for their heals would simply be to have a share of those points when the character they heal kills someone.
i.e. If the heals received counts for more than lets say 60% of the player's total HPs, healer should be rewarded in some way. After all, if he hadnt heal his realmmate, realmmate would have died.
it could be something like that.
Just a thought

Originally posted by Xobdnas I think they should get a special name color, a special outer glow, appear on a top player list, and get some buffs of some kind. BUT This is CU, boon and bane right? So they also apear on a bounty list and they are worth more to kill on the battlefield!
+1. Those top players could also be targets for some RvR quests.

I have an unpopular opinion about this, but I'll voice it anyway.
I don't think there should be leader boards. It creates a false competition between realm mates and will eventually lead to a lack of team play. Think 8v8 wars where an 8-man team would never add on an 8v8 fight, regardless of how the outcome might affect the Realm... and if a solo or small group added on an 8v8 fight, they'd get flamed in /broad. That is when the community will begin to die.
If CU ever comes close to developing this mentality as a standard, I'm out. Those are my personal feelings.
Don't get me wrong, I was atop the leader boards for all of Percival one week and it was awesome. (I had 104k RPs... does that tell you when it happened?) But I would have gladly traded that to keep the community together.

RED IS DEAD!
Great points. I always despised groups that would disengage a fight if someone added and then flame them up in /broad. Fortunately, the majority of the population within DAoC didn't share the same mindset of the elite gank squads. I think it'll be up to the community to discourage this type of behavior. I'm a huge fan of if it's red, it's dead. 104k is old school /highfive my percival brother
I was the same way, if I saw an enemy, I killed it. Found it funny that if you helped someone, they start yelling at you, but if you didn't help them and they died, they start yelling at you. It was a lose/lose situation, so I just killed the enemy, that way at least I win, hehe.
I think this is more a fault with the 8v8 playstyle and mentality than a fault with leaderboards. I always personally thought (read: MY OPINION) that the downfall of realm pride in DAoC was the 8man. There are some good ones, no doubt about that. But I think the bad ones far outnumbered the good.
With that said, back on topic. I'm on the fence about leaderboards. I'll have to see how progression is implimented in CU first.

Awesome.
I healed Mistwraith and all I got was this stupid tee-shirt!
I like the concept, but I am trying to figure out how to make it work. Perhaps a system/formula that takes various factors such as, item quality, rarity, components used, item value, etc to figure out how many points you made. Obviously, the more rarer the item is, the more points you would get.

Great ideas, Gobbo. I think for crafters it'll be harder simply because a generic "highest skill level" could be obtainable by anyone that has too much time on their hands. I'd throw out the idea to of items sold, but then the community could just boycott someone if that individual loses the popular vote.
Hmmm.... /ponder
Maybe leader boards should be replaced with realm contributor boards. Let’s praise the folk who are working the hardest to help the realm. Let’s consider many of the ways someone can contribute to the war effort and award / praise them all.
I don’t care who hits for the most damage or heals for the most, but I really want to award / praise the major contributors to my reals war effort.
Nanulak
From a simple view this would be the best solution, however as players go they will find the quickest route to more points. This happens as soon as you start aggregating points. So for that reason I'd rather see kill boards (with an assist system like in the moba LoL, so heals do count!), crafter boards (net result?), builder boards etc.
The only exception should be the realm comparison of course!
Arguably, the healer doing the most "HPS" is the one who isn't doing his job particularly well.
Not preventiing or mitigating damage; simple allowing it and then coating it with green paint.
It's a counter-intuitive thing that doesn't measure particularly well via meter, and players seem to have difficulty grasping that a meter needs to work in reverse to 'measure' healers. Your goal is not pouring on the healing to the DPS who is foolishly taking massive damage standing in the fire, your goal is to properly manage mana efficiency versus time. And there really ain't a way to meter that.
And yes, raid leaders make the wrong call about how to measure healerpeen, every single day.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
Originally posted by MarkJacobs Lots of good thoughts here. Personally, I like leaderboards, bragging rights, bounties, etc. and I'm totally amenable to looking at potentially other interesting ways to do a little bragging (still no inter-realm communication though, even for boasting).

I mentioned having a top crafters list in here...
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/379792/page/2
MJ mentioned not having an auction hall, so a top crafters board for your realm would help people learn the top crafters to look for. It also places more importance on protecting the better crafters... like escorting a little mini boss to RvR points.
