The difference is, most people can tell the quality of something regardless of if they like it or not.

I like WaterWorld. It is a terrible movie.

You like SWTOR. It is a terrible game.

    See?

Originally, before launch, I would have said a secret space project in SW might be revolutionary. Unfortunately, they made some bad decisions when they chose their game engine. It will probably be a sad little project that further obscures a wonderful IP. Other developers are being wiser with the money going into projects, it saddens me Bioware doesn't have that going for them.

Having high hopes for a title which originally set the mark for visionary work and being crushed when I think of what SWTOR could have been is just painful. Specially when other games successfully implement more revolutionary systems that make older games feel dull.

I changed my mind. It's going to exploit the Cartel store even more then the game does currently.

How one ruins one of the greatest IP's in history is beyond me but they found a way.

    …Incoming Transmission….

    …Begin Republic Wide Broadcast…

    Greetings,

I am Admiral Geutre, Commander of the Republic Fleet.  This message is going out to all corners of the Republic and is of the utmost importance.  Normally, I would not need to make such transmission, but the situation has become dire.

At the request of the Senate, the SiS has been investigating the Empire’s Fleet status.  What they found is, frankly, alarming.  The Empire has been putting considerable resources into new ships with powerful weapons.  Many Bothans died to get us this information.

We do not yet know what the Empire plans to do with their now bolstered Fleet, but we must be prepared for all possibilities.  We will not let the Empire’s moves go unchallenged.  The Republic has been strengthening its fleet as well.  New ships are leaving space dock all the time. This is where you come in.

Ships alone will not defeat the Empire. We need crews to man them.  The Republic must step up to this new challenge.  If you are able, we would be proud to have you among our ranks. From fighter pilot to cook, you can do your part.  Stand with the Republic and join the greatest Fleet the stars have seen.

    …End Transmission…

it IS real, has been datamined and posted on torwars.com

Catwoman is really a bad movie.

And the space project is obviously going to be "Moonbreakers" if this is already all the info, just what I expected.. quick instanced PvP space pew pew instead of big universe to explore :(

Yeah whatever I'm getting Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous and X-Rebirth, the space sim genre is coming back

if this is healthy, i wouldnt like to see a sick one

they barely survived the first year,,thats the standard, for a normal mmo

is this a normal mmo? no, they have the biggest IP in the industry(they killed another mmo to get it)

and, according to the devs, they have spent a lot of Work and Money on it

if this game had been AWESOME, they could have beaten pandaland easily,,10 mio PAYING subs

if it was GOOD, they would have kept most of the playerbase,,around 2 mio paying subs

instead, it fell below the "break even" line,,what does that tell you?

  • simpliussimplius Member UncommonPosts: 1,134

if it is out of context, you dont have to reply to it

yes im a passionate gamer, i have no problems admitting to that fact

and you seem to be very passionate about this subject too, even if you dont realize it

star wars is a brand name almost everybody on this planet recognizes

not only the movies, but also tons of useless fan items,,this name is practically a license to print Money

but only as long, as they deliver a quality product

i can respect the fact, that you defend the game , that you like

but you have to accept the fact, that the majority of gamers think this is a bad game

now look at the past,,did the swg fans do the same, as you do now?

and how much did it help them in the end?

good games , like wow and EVE dont lose players as fast, as this

and shouldnt we expect a good game with the SW name on it?

i know its active,,so was STO , when they balanced on the edge of destruction

and so was CoX, when they decided to shut that Down

the big difference is this: they had a much leaner budget

and swtor has three mouthes to feed:EAs, Disneys, and their own

if you cant see the problem, then you know nothing about the real world

Space sims are easy to create content for in terms of space, asteroids, suns and planets. The difficult part would be the balance in pvp, pve and smoothing out the combat and animations.

Its difficult to tell if at this point they are done with the core and just adding more content and fine tuning it, which could mean a large project.

Keep in mind its the super secret space project. Super the key word,

Theur expansion was very basic, and their frequent updates were not any new game mechanics like a new mini fame would be.

So this is an important aspect of swtor, the long term project that had been in the works just as long or longer than the expansion.

it has to be something large. If its not, i would literally be scared to be a swtor dev. I would fear for my safety, and some tension might come from a large disappointed fan base that has been ignored and disappointed for too long. Possibly feeling shame to get a pay check from something that destroyed expectations and made people not believe in programming.

I read it as "super secret" space project, not as "super" secret space project.  The name is fitting when super and secret are put together as the key words, since little to nothing is actually known.

I wouldn't have any high expectations, since EA already called a basic WoW patch an expansion, and charged $10-$20 just because a player can go 5 levels higher.  I do however expect that the SSSP will be an expansion, with a high pricetag, thinking $30-$50 range, regardless of actual quality.  SWTOR is heavy on content starvation, so EA will likely feel enough SW fans will pay anything for new stuff.

The game is singleplayer though I think it might also allow for multiplayer (donno) so :P not allot of issues when you're all alone vs AIs.

And the X series of games pre-dates EVE and is inspired more by Elite than anything else :).

You are probably right. Except, everyone will have high expectations with a project taking a long while, and has the word super in it.

Since to add more drama to it, the trade off of the SSSP is pazaak and swoop racing as a mini game. So if the sssp is an utter failure im sure that will anger fans much to a similar situation with me3 and the writer getting disturbing emails.

Video gamers are very involved in their gaming and i would feel uncomfortable being part of something that ruined a certain aspect for enough fans, and creating a hostile environment. I doubt they are motivated as they were before to touch the me franchise since it seems a very sensitive issue. Keep in mind thats basically the same company but different devs. Its certainly not easy, and i am not sure how bad me was, but swtor imo failed miserably in terms of potential (specifically pvp) and the devs seem to be welcomed and happy with their fans. But i believe old fans, wanting something out of swtor other than the basic story vo cinematics, will see sssp as indicator if a sw mmo is something they wont enjoy for another 10 years. I believe a realization like that would make some rage since swg was so different from swtor.

What would the older swtor fans want? I read on the forums and its a lot of things including chat bubbles, but its more about the overall product offering something new with the great story as well. Its been a year and that has not happened imo. The expansion did nit have class story even though the faction story was nice its taking away from the reward in the game and even building a legacy with alts. It seems the reward in the game is not what i would put effort to earn since its also not challenging, and the story repeats by each faction.

They could have offered more with the swtor budget to offer a crafting system, and economy similar to swg, and a themepark similar to WoW, and a pvp system similar to Daoc including some destructible environment. I am not talking about eqn, but more of the standard. That should have been the vision of swtor, and from there adding mini games, and other new mechanics would fit in much better with a set up that is designed with pvp, pve, and typical raid end game.

maybe, but they still have LOTS to take from

swtor never HAD 4 mio players in the first place

Again,,swtor lost about 75% of the playerbase in the first 6 months

and pandaland is still the champion,,by far

oddly enough,,wow has  the performance of the AAA mmo, that it never was

swtor was build as a AAA title , but they fell flat on their faces
