lol. Consoles are so linear and boring. The controls are linear; thus, gameplay will always feel dumbed down.
If you think MMOs these days are feeling too linear, wait until you experience most games from the console. Not only is the experience much more K12, but the social realm (other players) is beyond annoying, e.g., "BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO BRO".
The worst attitude of MMORPG.com would sound like an elderly and passive professor when compared to the standard console gamer.
Such a kid I know's clan in COD called KKK, where they troll by screaming the n-word every 5 seconds while playing. They're amateurs at best. Seriously, if you think things have gotten bad in pc online communities...lol. IMO, the one game worth owning a console for this year is GTA 5.
I think you got yourself into some wishful thinking there. Thinking that if you just force your interest upon the family they will all embrace it. As now you alone are sitting staring at the screen. With a console, your whole family is going to be looking at the screen. If you play "too much", I'm sure they will all get mighty bored of that.
Asides that, there's more of a difference than just simplicity of the games, the crowd are younger too on the consoles. It might get pretty boring arguing with kids, and even when the kids in a sense are in the right. It's their playground after all, not the grownups.
A reason many do infact, want a gaming laptop and not a desktop, is because of your situation. They have grown up and gotten responsibilities to family and a desktop, often in another room, secludes them too much. So they can take a gaming laptop into the living room, and play with a semi presence and more alert to family life. Like this, it doesn't really matter if dad is always reading the newspapers or watching the television or sitting with his laptop.
Maybe get a pair of earplugs instead of a headset, it works as well but doesn't convey that "somewhere else" feeling. Lighten it up abit.
It should be possible to find a decent laptop at the right price these days, the newest generation of mobile GPUs are performing pretty well.
Not sure what the big deal about upgrading a pc is. You should upgrade maybe every 5 years or more which is similar to console rotation.
You can pick up and play any pc game unless you're playing a mmo.
yea there is no need upgrade pc every year to play pc games / mmos also same games are on consoles and pc so ??? whats the point. and social aspect is same you have good and bad.
but hey by all means if it helps your downfall with pc.
I have been playing both since Intellivision and the Timex Sinclair, and there are pros and cons for BOTH mediums. Here are some of my opinions on your question
"Pros for console to me is the pick up and play gamestyle. I can pick it up for an hour put it down and do whatever i gotta do. Seems more social as well ( know this one gamer chick and she constantly talkin and gaming on xbox360). More game variety."
Yes more variety. That does not mean more quality.
Your gamer chick friend is probably getting called a lot of inappropriate names and is consistently asked if she is "DTF".
She will probably experience the same on PC. Idiots, they be e'rywhere.
"Con for pc. Im stuck in one spot for hours secluded to myself. Its not really a con for pc but a con for my life. Im usually stuck in 1 spot sitting in a chair by myself for hours. I feel with console at least i can be on a couch where people can sit beside and talk to me etc. Also i heard with the vita u can go mobile while playing ps4. Another Con to pc is the constant upgrading....i do have a bit of cash to spare but not THAT much."
Yes, many PC gamers are set up for isolation, but with newer PC's this is not mandatory. You can have your PC set up somewhere besides mom's basement. Wireless displays, better laptops, using your HDTV as a monitor are good ways to move the so called solitary PC gaming experience into your living room. As for cost, most PC gamers would be amazed to see what console gamers are willing to shell out for 8-10 hours of game. If you play 3 new console games a month you will spend around $180...average that out for a year and you could get a new PC every year for less than just the games on a console.
" Looking on other websites like gamespot, ign, destroid i realize that wow I missed out on some truly awesome games."
This is a valid point for consoles. However, mostly this applies to AAA titles, which are nowadays being ported to PC(developers want them that PC$$$ too) by which time Steam has it on sale.
PC - Better graphics, more powerful system but you need to constantly upgrade a lot.
Console - Less powerful system, no maintenance like the pc requires and you play from your couch.
I been a PC gamer for most of my gaming time but I started on consoles with the Atari 2600. It never gets dull being able to kick back on your comfy chair or couch and play on a console. I still use my pc for certain games but mostly I play on my PS3 now because it just more comfortable.
PC gaming has been my home for the last 8 years. Been playing multiple mmorpgs over the years alongside some games on steam....mostly mmorpgs. As I look at other websites showing off the next gen consoles like ps4 and xbox 720 im considering getting one. I totally missed out on basically the whole ps3/xbox360 era. Looking on other websites like gamespot, ign, destroid i realize that wow I missed out on some truly awesome games. 8 years ago I had time to have both console and pc with games but then i was too broke to fund both. Now I have a steady job, kids, wife aggro so i have budget for both but not time.
Pros for console to me is the pick up and play gamestyle. I can pick it up for an hour put it down and do whatever i gotta do. Seems more social as well ( know this one gamer chick and she constantly talkin and gaming on xbox360). More game variety.
pros I see for pc is mmorpgs community. Alt Tab and the multitasking while gaming functions. Keyboard and mouse gameplay.
Cons for console I would think is lack of hardcore players. I mean by that is basically a new game drops..everyone flood to it...then a couple months later everyone is onto the next big thing. I would highly doubt console gamers play the same game day in day out for 4 months (unless its like call of duty).
Con for pc. Im stuck in one spot for hours secluded to myself. Its not really a con for pc but a con for my life. Im usually stuck in 1 spot sitting in a chair by myself for hours. A bit torn....
Not the Xbox 720 it's called the "Xbox Infinity" that the next Microsoft console just wanted to clear that up.
When it comes down to it there really is no difference between the communities of PC and console. Both are loaded with kids and adults. I still cant believe it when i see someone trying to argue that PC is "more mature." It's a flat out lie and you're only fooling people that might not know better.
The only difference between console and PC gaming is the mod'ing and graphics capabilities of the PC. That being said, just because a PC is capable of pulling off better graphics doesn't mean a console can't match it. I don't care what anybody says. When i play games like Uncharted and God of War or Heavy Rain i can see that these consoles have just as much power as a PC and are capable of amazing things. I have known that since the PS1 when Squaresoft kept pushing that system to newer levels every single new game they made for it. Some of the six year old games on the PS3 still look as good as current PC games. I talk about the PS3 simply because i couldn't afford to get both that and the 360.
Consoles having worse graphics is more down to the laziness of the developers, or maybe its the publishers insisting on not allowing the developers to put more time into using each consoles potential for multi-platform games. It's also why the Xbox sometimes looks better than the PS3, it's not because it's better, it's because the Xbox has a closer config to PC while PS3 has its own components and tech that is almost never optimized with multi-platform games. I call that laziness, i'm sure the publishers and devs have their own opinion on that.
PC elitists are silly. I'm a gamer, i'll play on anything.

Don't listen to some of the folks here, some consoles games stay true (even though a small few) to the formula! The New Tom Raider fells like Parasite Eve & Resident Evil 6 should have been. Uncharted series feels like Tomb raider like (not liek the originals much). Sly Cooper Thieves in Time stayed true to the original roots 100%! The Mario Series also stayed true.

mods mouse+keybpards and highend graphics(Crysis 3) plus so many indie games.

Why consoles don't come with mouse ,keyboard and a web browser as standard i never know
Most people would find it a cheap alternative to a pc
