What are you planning to focus on when the game launches? Personally I decided I won't rush myself to hit the cap this time, and I'll try to immerse myself in the beautiful world of Eorzea. I'll try to do a bit of everything. My main class/job will be an Elezen Thaumaturge/Black Mage, but I also plan to do some crafting and see where I go from there.

Well I won't say that I won't "rush" to end game but I will try to level efficiently with my group as much as I can. Given how much EXP the story missions give, I don't think it will take me anymore than a 1~2 weeks to max my first class. I won't tell anyone to push for endgame ASAP or be server's 1st, but the thought that there is so much more unlockable content like primal battle and guild housing will drive people like me to lvl combat classes first.
With main class lvling and story out of the way, I can farm anything I need as a lvl50 and focus on crafting and gathering.
I will be going with Thaumaturge/Black Mage as well. I'll switch to Conjurer as soon as I can and get it to 15 or 20 then switch back over to Thaumaturge and probably take it to around 20. By then I should have enough mats to get a good start on my DoH job. I agree with pacing too, I'm going to take my time and enjoy everything.
I was an Elezen in beta but I'm on the fence between that and Lalafell right now
The only thing i know for sure is the Race i will play with.
About Class....man....
Even that i played Phase3 and tried a lot of things (Classes) there, i can't decide. Sure, i have somewhat of an favorite which is Archer but on the other Hand that's what i play mostly in MMO's. So i thought about doing something totally different (for me at least) and perhaps go the Marauder Line or the Way for a Monk (fist fight)
I have no Idea and it seems i have to throw a coin or so

Taking my time, smelling the roses, enjoying the fluff and rp'ing a bit. I'll be leveling Conjurer and Gladiator at first, for both Paly and White Mage, and then I will work on Bard. It's going to be so much fun!
I have all fighting classes/jobs at 50 so will start the new ones Arcainist-Scholar/Summoner and do all the quests and main mission I can to get access to everything and of coarse explore all the maps( I had all the Aetherite and Nodes in version 1.0).
Last but not least will be crafting since I only have 2 of them at 50.

My opinion
Just think of how you want to play the game. I like ranged combat and spells, so Thaumaturge was an easy choice.
Definitly !!!
And tbh, after so much MMO's played, as we all have here, i have no freaking Idea why FFARR just sucked me into it soooooo deep. I asked that myself so often after and within Phase 3. Especially when i got my Flightpass, i got tons of goosebumps. I felt i was "realy" something "worthy" in that Game/World/Story and not only another random pixel Hero. Even think no on it gives me a shiver....brrr...in a positiv way ofc
I tried already to think so But.....
As said above, first time after a dam long time i feel a bit special about "this" Game. So i thought to get even more out of it and try something which is "not so normal" for my gaming. Perhaps that kicks even more and gives me a more intens feeling.
And also....*giggles* there are the final Armor designs for each class. I looked at them and how they look ( find here http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIV and elesewhere) and what should i say. It seems first time in my age i need someone who hold my hand and talks into me until everything comes out of my ears

I have no idea. I don't know what race I will start as. I made a bunch of different characters and saved them, and will probably play with it some more when the new benchmark comes out in a couple of weeks.
Class is more or less.. what city do you want to start you storyline in. Not quite as important.
Honestly? Unless you're a DoL or DoH right off the bat everyone's focus should be progressing through the story quests. Yes, you could consider this "rushing". But when so much of the content is locked by the storyline....it only makes sense to unlock everything and then go back and do whatever you want from there. Without focusing on the main story quests you can't ride an airship, you wont be able to join a grand company (which comes with a ton of perks), you won't have a chocobo, etc.
I don't see it as "rushing" when the game is made that way by design.
I'm not really going to box myself in by saying anything in absolute terms but either get everything to 20 and see what I look like or get one thing to 50, work on Gathering so I can farm all mats including leathers and other beast materials. Once I think I am sitting on the stuff to level the crafting 8 I figure the min/ maxers will have fleshed out the new FotM class.
Still tweaking this plan, but it'll likely go something like this:
-Get CNJ to 15 (including story and class quests so I can use airship travel).
-Go to all the cities, unlock all the classes.
-Level CNJ when my friends are online; if/when I get time to play but they are not on, alternate leveling one combat class from Uldah and one from Limsa Lominsa (probably THM and ARC respectively assuming those will end up being the auxilliary jobs for WHM).
-Prioritize unlocking Grand Companies/getting my chocobo.
-Level all the crafting (and at least 1 gathering) classes up to at least 15 (so I can access their unique abilities), and weaver, perhaps one other craft besides, beyond that.
-Prioritize getting those auxilliary classes to at least 26 to unlock all the abilities that will be useful for WHM.
-Prioritize unlocking WHM.
-Level WHM when friends are online, any and all other classes (with priority on crafting/gathering and classes necessary to unlock BRD, eventually PLD to have access to DPS and tanking roles - SCH comes first when it is out to test the alternate style of healing though).
-And so on into endgame...
(I'll be partaking of all the forms of content along the way - check one of the 'advice for new players' threads for my breakdown of the priority I will place on the XP-giving features of the game - and of course, I will be smelling a lot of flowers.)
Edit: Forgot to say, main job will of course be White Mage - race probably Male Hyur, but looking for a reason to go Male Mi'qote...
If you didn't know - this won't work; 'jobs' (like White Mage and Bard) can't transfer abilities to other jobs or 'classes' ('classes' referring to things like conjurer or archer) , they are self-contained. Furthermore, jobs can only select abilities from specific other classes, and even then only certain abilities.
So if you were going to go White Mage, you'd only be able to take abilities from Conjurer, Thaumaturge, and maybe Arcanist (not sure about the last one yet). If you were going Bard, you can only take abilities from Archer, Conjurer, and Lancer.

how exactly r you planning on doing that?
The majority of stats & abilities are job-specific. And they are tied to your job (i.e. you can't really mix-match much when it comes to jobs, they're extremely specialized). So I'm wondering how you're going to pull that off.

Oh thank you for clarifying. I will try Thaumaturge then.
I really like what I did in beta, which was to first level Conjurer to 15 then switch to Lancer and level that up and will probably go to 30.
I like having Protect up when solo'ing, and I'll probably quick level Archer to I think 6 to unlock a few nice abilities.
Then I'll probably do Pugilist to 15 in Ul'Dah.
I like using the main story + area quests to level up in the region fast as a tank/heal class, which also gives some time to build up levequest allowances.
And once 15 in tank/heal classes, I can level those later by dungeon running.
Much easier/faster to level the DPS classes via Hunting log and levequests later, save the good quest XP for the slower (tank/heals) classes 1-15.
I'll probably stay away from crafting/gathering till I put some good time into my first primary job (Dragoon).
Once I 50 Dragoon, I'll have to go back and level Marauder for some good cross-class abilities, using quests in Limsa and dungeon running, as well as Archer and some more time in Pugilist. If I remember right, about level 26 in each of those 3.
Then I MIGHT be "raid ready" for my Dragoon, and start leveling gathering/crafting professions for Materia melding.
So much to do... so much great story, cool dungeons.
I can't wait to get started!
for main ill choose human summoner
alt ranger or something in that area
