Some Questions on "Building"

SjorAndSkySjorAndSky Member UncommonPosts: 24

I'm sort of confused as to how "Building" will work in this game.

Say, through my travels I find the perfect spot, and decide to build a home there. Am I able to actually build a house there, (Gathering resources and actually constructing the house, all through in game UI and animation)

Or do I have to load up that Landmark software, and place a building there via programming like tools (Very much like the current Skyrim process for pc users)?

While a lot has me excited, I'll be honest it would be a real immersion kill if the only form of construction was done via software placement.

And also, is there some sort of land protection, or would someone be able to come to my home, and build ridiculous and/or obscene structures, or even destroy it (Right click, delete it)??    If so, this game may even overcome Minecraft Server's when  it comes to griefers....

Honestly not trolling, just really want to know more about how this will work.

They said clearly no one can mess with your land once you obtain access, but getting access to build on a plot of land will take a lot of work, probably involving convincing a local Baron or some such thing.

They've been somewhat vague but it sounds like if you want a custom building you need to construct your building in Landmark, get style approval, then obtain the blueprint in EQ:N, harvest all the resources, and build it in EQ:N.

What I have not heard is whether you see your EQ:N house appear in stages as you construct it or whether it just pops into existance when the requirements have been met.

Yes, the way they talked about "plots of land" gives me the impression you can't just build anywhere you favor.  I don't know if they are going for a vanguard/archeage style or what they are planning on, but it sounds like they plan to limit it in some way.

They said the same thing about player cities and land plots.  So, either some type of separate housing zones/instances, or limited space would be my guess.  Plots sounds much more akin to limited real estate to me.

Georgeson said in the Gamebreaker interivew you can import a house design from Landmark or you could design it in game.

In EQNext, you have to earn your plot of land (ex: helping a king). The house building tool is supposed to be the same as in Landmark, but you can bring "blueprints" from Landmark into EQNext. In this case, you only have to gather the material to build your new house. I suspect player designs might also be sold in the Cash Shop.

By the way, Landmark is a MMO, not an editor. You make an avatar and you have to gather, harvest and craft in that game...

If the city can grow and if Player city can grow that would be very good.

Obviously speculation here, but from what I can tell (based on current iterations of Player Studio), you won't exactly "build" your own custom whatever you want. In EQN, once you have the plot of land, there will be a selection of buildings to choose from to place there. These would include the accepted submissions from other players from Landmark, which you could buy. If you truly wanted a fully customized building, then yes, you would go into the Landmark software, and build it, wait for it to get approved, then, it would become an in-game asset/model that can be placed.

While (apparently) everything can be destroyed, you won't be able to just build anything. Every model in the game world (trees, ruins, houses, etc) is still an asset, just made up of these destructible voxels. When you build something in Landmark, you are creating a new in-game asset.  I guess it would be 'software placement,' but not as immersion killing as it is in say, Skyrim. After the asset is placed on the plot, I assume it would have to actually be built (via crafting). It could then be destroyed/rebuilt repeatedly, but the actual base model will never change.

Again, Im only assuming that this is how it will work. If I''m wrong about anything, somebody please correct me.

Georgeson said yesterday that Landmark building tool will be in EQNext. Player Studio got nothing to do with it by the way, different applications.

Also, building something in voxel is like building something with legos. You do it blocks by blocks. It can take a long time, but you really get to build things the way you want.

After reading that, I am more then thrilled! Sounds really promising, and perfect balance of customization and immersion!
