What kind of preparations are you planning, regarding real life, when the game goes live? Will you be taking time off work? Buying favorite food/beverages? Personally I treat launching of my favorite games as a personal holiday.
When Phase 4 starts I'll do everything to not let real life get in a way, and play as much as I can. That means I'll need a lot of energy drinks, preferably green Monster, as well as snacks. I like salted mini-pretzels, because they don't get your hands dirty, thus not making your keyboard sticky. Not really planning to drink any alcohol, I prefer enjoying the game sober. Anyway during Phase 4 I won't sleep much, until it ends and there will be a break between open beta and the early start. Anyway these are my plans. Share yours.

When EQN launches in 2016, I'm going to be busy tending my farm in ArcheAge. I will be tending to the cows when I hear EQ "Next" is going live, at which time I will finish up with the chickens, then look at SOE's cashshop .. and decide then. Character roles & combat mechanics didn't pull me in now, and unless SOE changes anything, it won't pull me in then either.
Now when FFXIV launches, I'll be actively watching, both the launch and the general reception, which is going to be much better than before.
While I'm watching, I'll be chopping wood in ArcheAge .. =D

My personal checklist to keep me a well balanced cave dweller:
1. Sit up straight. Don't slouch
2. Take a 5-10 minute break every hour. Get up, stretch, walk around.
3. Drink lots of water.
4. Be sure to get no less than 6 hours of sleep each night.
5. Keep in mind that nobody at work cares what you did in FFXIV last night. Spare them.

Ive stopped playing MMO's until the release, ive gone old school and started playing the one Final Fantasy I never completed due to being busy, FFXII.
Also looking forward to my new PC parts to come in a few days
Oh yeah I also have a couple of days off work XD
I just had a vacation 2 weeks ago, so im gona be working full time when it launches. Besides I usually go outa town for a week when I take a vacation, so I actually have more time when i'm working.
Still can put in around 40 hours a week, so good enough for me. I need to start to take breaks regularly heh, I tend to get a headache after like 4 hours of gaming.
10 minute break every hour would be good
GL hopefully you didn't screw up already and prevented yourself from getting the Zodiac Spear, I did =(, you still can get it but by time you actually get it the secondary way you don't really need it. Also look at a license board map all my main party characters had their quickenings at very low levels which allowed me to get quite a few things completed, such as obtaining Adrammelech, more then 20 levels below what was recommended. Also try to get a few Deathbringers early on by thieving them from Ithuno without killing him and running back to the save crystal to refresh his spawn(you must not kill him to allow this). I loved FF XII.
Now in regards to FF XIV I will quite simply get very little sleep.
Thankfully I work a job that gives me the opportunity to play while I'm at work. I have still have 4 days of PTO i have to use by the end of September or I lose them, so FF may be a good excuse.
Doubt I'll do any preparation for Launch other than make sure my rig is updated with latest drivers.
