game has been in early access for less than 48 hours and people are talking about a refund because of launch errors. irritating? yes. expected? yes. refund? no.
it will all get sorted out....this must be the first MMO for a lot of you.
This isn't 2004, believe it or not this isn't a niche genre anymore and people actually expect quality products especially when they are Pay2Play. Of the AAA mmos released in that last 2-3 years there have been login issues, but the difference is that this is a RELAUNCH, its the company's SECOND/THIRD MMO, and those other games had devs that actually communicated with their customers.
Also most games that have login issues clearly indicate what the problem is, not give random error codes or ask people to play Roulette with the login screen.
I don't care if this will get sorted out eventually. I work full time, now is when I have time to play. I paid for access, I should get it. Maybe if this was 10 years ago and I was unemployed and living in my moms basement I wouldn't care as much.
Unlike fanbots I value my time. If SE thinks its ok to waste it and not even put up a twitter post then they deserve every cancellation they get.

What about the people who are getting the client crashes every time they exit or enter a new zone? Do they deserve a refund?
Well technically we are all under a preorder. So a refund isn't a huge deal tbh.
If I had received my code, and was able to download the game I would have never botherd with a refund. While irritating, login issues at launch are no big deal.
From what I understand, they have stopped taking peoples money and disabled purchases, which was the right thing to do. Way too many people wondering when they will even get the code to activate the game ect.
Since it is a preorder anyone should be able to get out of a purchase, it was quick and easy for me, and the refund was instant.
Ill make the decision on returning later if the game stabilizes and turns out to be better than the last attempt.
For the record, its much easier to give disgruntled people their money back, given the game isn't working, they are unable to even handle and process their order (what happened to me never getting a code) or for false advertisement (no the case here)
Launch issues isn't a good reason imo. However, preorder ect, its easy to get out.

I guess you just assumed that everything was perfect for me. I can assure you it is not. Personally I have not been able to play for about 17 hours now and when I was in, I was plagued by the instance errors.
My point is that this happens with nearly every new MMO release. This large amount of players is not anticipated and it creates problems that were masked before. Its not even a full two days into EARLY access. I am just as frustrated as everyone else but i'm not going to ask for a refund and lose my mind because of it.
Originally posted by Mannish Rarely online and barely playable for you. My Arcanist is 23 working on 30 and I already got conjurer 15 so I can class change to Scholar at level 30. Been having a blast and look forward the future of this game. Threads like these don't make sense. A new game launches and go downs a few times for maintenance and its time to get a refund?
Wow, you must be the lucky minority of 1.
For roughly 20% of the population, beta 4 was a no go. (granted, some of them got as much as 1 day in... but others got booted out with less than an hour of play and got to sit there with not even an update for the entire weekend).
At the end of the weekend they announce that they have fixed it... but don't add in any more testing to confirm the fix worked.
At head start, the duty finder(which runs EVERY instance) was down almost the entire time. A common thing I heard was "Crap, I can't even craft while I wait because I need to do my level 10 class quest before I can get crafting".
Think about that. No way to progress the main story, missing a significant portion of your class, no way to change classes or to craft, no way to do dungeons or guildhests... So basically you are advocating that we all just grind all day? Not really interested in playing a Korean grinder, or I would be.
Now those same people can't even get into the game.
It hasn't been down "a few times for maintenance". I've been locked out of the head start for over 20 hours now, and prior to that significant portions of the game were unplayable.... And I am not in the minority. This is the majority of players.
People cleared their calendars for the weekend, didn't make plans, passed on other activities, etc... For two weekends running... And both of them were almost 100% fubar. Get over yourself... Your good luck does not negate the problem.
If you've planned only playing this game for 4 days + grace period.....I can see your point
If you're only in it to get a server first......I can see your point
If you feel like this takes priority over anything else in your life.......I can see your point
If you plan on playing and not renewing after your 30 days.....I can see your point
If you're in it to race one class/job to level cap.......I can see your point
If you approach every mmorpg like a eating at a all-you-can-eat buffet........I can see your point
If you're only using this game to hold you over until another game comes out.....I can see your point
If you're planning on selling your character at one point......I can see your point
BUT
If you plan on playing FFXIV for a few months and you've been intrigued from playing in any of the betas besides 4...I've failed to see your point.

This does not happen with every MMO actually. Not since 2004. The only MMO you can excuse was WoW (but their launch was so bad it still wasn't excused).
Que times are expected, extended maintenance is expected. What is happening with FFXIV...is not unacceptable. They've made *huge* errors in judgement, but we're left to speculate on what they are because they're not saying shit. Most of the playerbase cannot play, and before when they could the game had game-breaking bugs anyway that cut off half the game (It's insanely instance based..and instances have been broken largely since phase 4 )
They screwed themselves by not actually having a friggin stress test. You don't stress test less then a week before your "launch" that's just dumb.
And the awesome thing is on this thread, I just looked down and there's a "Pre-order now and get these bonuses!" advertisement for FFXIV

I work full time too and go to school while taking care of two daughters. want a cookie? You're not special. You're not the only one who has stuff to do.
What you did is preorder the game for early access just like I did....and unless you got shafted, then you have not paid for anything yet.
and where are you guys getting this "since 2004" stuff. GW2 launched with issues involving dynamic events, long queues which sometimes crashed you out. TSW launched with instancing (or dimension) problems and server errors. Defiance launched with server errors among others. SWTOR launched with full servers, random disconnects and latency issues which still haunt the game. Should I keep going?

Wrong : Early Access was included as part of your purchase. You purchased Early access just as much as you purchased the game itself. It's part of the product because it was advertised as part of the product. Imagine paying for a collector's edition with physical items, but one of the items you got in the CE was broken...that wasn't just some free fluff that you didn't pay for.

Best analogy I can give.
I guess the part where it says "Your credit card will not be charged until your download is available. This item will be available to download on August 27, 2013 at 12:00 AM (US/Pacific)" and the fact that I have not been charged yet is all a big lie.

I ordered the product in good faith that they would deliver on the early access promise. In your world it may be fine to sell false promises and justify them with a technicality.
As I've stated, its not so much the fact that I haven't been able to log in at all its moreso that there has been no communication with the EU/NA audience, they are not logging out AFK people, and they are treating the login process like a random lottery instead of a queue.

This is a mmorpg that spans three regions, for 2 languages across 2 different platform (with a 3rd in the works) all on the same servers. Do you really think they can keep a handle on everything 100% of the time? Everything is coded in Japanese I'm assuming, so getting a translator who speaks both English and Japanese to explain issues arising from PC/PS3 cross platforming in itself would be a headache I can only imagine. But continue on thinking they have no reason not to figure out 100% of the issues that would flair up...
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
The problem isn't even that I can't play the game when I want to....it's the fact that they aren't competent enough to implement a queue. So here I am, looking for "an opening"....pretty irritating, even for veteran MMO players like myself.
Really amateurish stuff going on...I don't blame people asking for refunds.
Let's be honest, none of you angry folk are going to actually quit the game. You won't leave it. And SE knows it. You may temporarily step away, but you will all be back.

Dynamic Event errors(events not progressing, etc) are hardly in the same class as "Hey, every single class quest, story quest, dungeon, etc. are all completely broken". Getting booted out of the queue is not the same thing as "don't bother trying to play because anyone who already got in is going to afk there forever so they don't lose their place".
GW2s problems weren't gamebreaking. Worst case you got stuck an extra 20 minutes in queue to get into the server. I didn't bitch about that then, and I wouldn't bitch about that here. A DE got stuck? If one of their fates got stuck and wouldn't progress, do you think I would care? I can't comment on the others because I didn't play any of those 3 at release.
I cannot think of any game that was hard down this long. We are talking (including B4 and EA, since our characters carry through) 95 hours, out of which 70+ hours were completely down. What game can you possibly point to that is even in the same ballpark as 75% downtime over 5 days.
