I would say SWG. However, I'm a pretty hard core Star Wars fan so taking in sites from the original trilogy such as Jabba's Palace, Uncle Owen's house and hunting the Gorax on Endor was a special warm and fuzzy feeling. Plus the overall game world was just huge. On foot (for those of us who played before player cities and mounts) it took like an hour to run from one end of a map to another, or at least it felt like an hour though I had a smile on my face the whole time becuase it was Star Wars.
Lord of the Rings Online had some beautifully designed areas that made me step back and stare. Rounding a corner to see Weathertop in the distance, the lake outside Hobbiton, looking down from the mountain to Lorien below. So many nice places. The game used to be great too, until they went all solo friendly and turned book quests from group to solo. How exactly did my Hobbit Musician suddenly become able to take out multiple Trolls at a time? Hmm...
Originally posted by Tindale111 I am enjoying FF online but I find the mapping and the small zones annoying .The best game world for me is EQ2 with its large zones and the diversity ,several others of note Wow ,Aoc and Vanguard tho Vanguard could seem a bit daunting sometimes ,interested to see what others think .

Never fear, your dream MMO will be here.... just give me a decade or two to finely hone my Game development and design abilities as well as start a Game Design Studio. Thank you for your patience.
LOTRO, WoW, and Vanguard for game world. I chose all three of those games because I like the open-style of zones that they present. There are natural barriers, of course, but the zones don't direct you into a straight-line path from quest hub to quest hub. You can basically go out in any of four directions and explore, even if the content is gated. I also like the way the zones are designed in all three of those games.
GW2 is one of the best games in terms of environment, but their zones aren't nearly as open as a game like LOTRO. You still get the feeling of being funneled into these pockets of dynamic events within each zone. And the Asura Gate system of travel basically chops the zones into small pieces. Do not like.
As far as best map? Definitely GW2. Their in-game map is genius.
