Brad McQuaid expecting people to give him Kickstarter money is more high fantasy than whatever game he's imagining.

What has happened to Camelot Unchained? no heard a peep from it since all those crazy people gave up their hard earned cash to fun the thing, did they spend all the money and fancy cars as I predicted?

If McQuaid had trouble managing a project that had actual funding and investors, how the **** is he going to manage a kickstarter project?  I think I'll wait until a few months AFTER launch on this one.

You wanna know why I spent a total of 10 mins playing Vanguard when it first lunched?  I rolled a ranger and I spwaned on some beach and I had to go up the beach to fight some monks -  but the thing that got me, other then the shite poor performance was I did not have a ranged weapon, I had a knife, I rolled a ranger give me a ranged weapon or GTFO.

A bout 2 years ago I dipped back in Vanguard from what I could tell it was much improved but I had no desire to spend any time getting into it as I knew it was a dead game.

And that is my Vanguard story.

Looks interesting.   Hopeing for more old school gaming with new graphics.    Hold the huge shoulderpads and parkour.  Might be a fun niche game.

There are two game developers who I think have great "Vision"  Brad MaQuaid is one of them.

I love his concepts of how games should play and was a huge Vanguard fan.

With that said I've also seen how he handles a leadership role.  If the game is good I'll buy it, but I won't trust him with my money until I see the finished product.

For now if I'm going to back a project based on "Vision" alone, my money is going to that other developer..  Chris Roberts.

Perhaps he is sober and clean now ?

For a lot more reasons that just a game, I hope he is.

This is not about forgiveness.  This is about trust.  Trust is something that is earned.  Brad had many opportunities to do this and failed.  No...not failed even...  In my opinion he demonstrated he is not trustworthy to gaming communities, employees, or investors.

In retrospect, my post should have just said:

    Too soon Brad...  too soon..

I am half and half on this. Yes people can change, but I would like to see some evidence of that before I go giving them my money. I felt VG was a very good game and ahead of it's time. But in this economy, even though I have a healthy budget for entertainment, I still would rather be assured that I am getting my moneys worth before I throw it at a project.

The side note is; I am just sick to death of fantasy right now, so I am hard pressed to give my cash to anyone making a game in a high fantasy setting. That is neither here nor there though.

I would love to back a project with Braid McQuaid as part of the creative team, but having him be the top guy is just risky business.  If he wants to do this he needs some other names to throw out there for running the whole thing, he should be lead game designer, but not the guy actually running the business.

yay, yet another unfinished bug ridden mess of a game from this hack. Anyone that gets suckered into anything this guy puts out deserves what they get.

I'll just wait to there are some reviews and feedback before I put any money towards this project

As Brad has said this game is not being made for the mainstream but at a niche audience.  If they can get 50k subs it will do well.

Vanguard was arguably the best game made since WoW.  If Sigil was not forced to radically change the games design after MS dumped them it might have been a huge success.  Hopefully this game being a  niche game will mean that Brad will not have to water the game down for mainstream audiences and can actually make a game for real players.

The only thing I thought about when reading this was.... We should be outside in the parking lot to hear Brad's proposal.

This is great news. I may never play it but I truly believe that direct player funding and relationships with developers is the new future for mmo and even most pc gaming.

Games like Camelot Unchained, Star Citizen and now a possible EQ1 unofficial successor would never exist without this rebellion against the dark forces of game development like EA and other mega-developers stomping originality out of gaming.

There will be some stinkers but likely some gems which will be allowed to developed how the indie-developers and fans want them to develop.

He's good at ideas, hes crap at implementing them and / or managing anything above a quest line. If he's involved under a creative capacity then great, but if he's trying to start another company / game, forget it.

I'm sure his previous employees who were fired in the parking lot at Sigil appreciate your blind faith in him.

What???  After all these years theres still people who don't realize that the failure was 100% the fault of McQuaid and Sigil's upper management?  Theres not enough face palms in the world for this.  And no, Vanguard was a steaming pile of garbage and continues to be irrelevant to modern MMOs and MMO gamers.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?

Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

There is no hype ... only the weakness within your own mind.

He must of run out of money from selling out his vanguard fans,   err the game.

I assume most people around nowadays know not to get involved with this guy.

  • AsamofAsamof Member UncommonPosts: 824

Pretty bold of him, to still throw his name out like that. Like it has any relevance or power behind it still.

Wasn't he rehired by SOE to fix Vanguard? That could have been his redemption for that disaster...but nobody has heard anything about that game in years. Now he wants to yet again start another 'old school' MMO, but with less funding and time? Sorry if I'm just a LITTLE BIT skeptical.

Him and David Brevik should hang out.
