Stupid question for a noob

Well, I think I have the main concept but I wanted to be sure before I bought it. EQ landmark, is it a game in itself that will eventually become EQ next? or are they two totally different things? I wanna buy the landmark, but only if by buying that I'm also preordering EQ next. Thanks! Sorry for the noob question. xD

They are two separate games. Both are free to play so you don't have to buy them. I imagine both will give early access if you buy the founders pack but we have no details on EQ Next for sure. There is almost no way that your Landmark founders pack will give you any special access to EQ Next though.

Landmark is sort of a more complex version of Mindcraft that has been sort of blended with more MMORPG elements. They say they are adding combat and AI to it so you can for instance make up your own adventures. One comment they made was you could for example run your own D&D campaign using the tools they have. Landmark doesn't have to stick to the game lore either, you can make space stations etc with it though non lore content will be on its own continents.

Next is a more complex sandbox MMORPG, think WoW or EQ or whatever other games you play only with more freedom in what you do and how you can affect the world.

They will be in the future testing game concepts from EQN in Landmark.  However Landmark will be its own game.  EQN is a long way off.  If you wanted to be a part of development of EQN and also be on the ground floor of Landmark development, then the founder pack may be something of interest to you.

Awesome thanks for the answers. Every video/site I found said nothing distinguishing the 2 different games. I have heard that landmark was a minecraft type game that you played until EQ next played and what they liked out of your buildings they'd keep. Anyhow, thanks!

Read this article:  It sums it up pretty well and current.

Everquest Next is basically the same as Landmark but without the "developer quality building tools". Instead you get 40 classes, quests, and rallying calls in EQN. Both games will co-exist next to each other.
