Wildstar just looks horrid. I cant get past the WoW style look. WoW might even look better, although that is , of course, a subjective assessment.
Ive looked at some videos of ESO and the recent PvP. Im playing GW2 and they recently had an update to WvW which I am loving. I understand everyone is saying it is not the same as GW2 PvP, but it does look similar. Is that worth 15 a month for me? Probably not. And I am an Elder Scrolls fan. Little more uncertain on the PvE side of the game. If the PvE was awesome I might consider it, but it seems it is just more of the same we have seen for years.
Yes, I will probably pass on both of these.
Or course, when they go F2P I might check them out.
Same here if they go f2p or when they do. I might check them out but as of now neither one makes me want to drop any money on them. Looking forward to a few indie singleplayer rpg's coming out down the road. MMO's right now seem so generic to me.
I will be playing both, as they are the only big AAA MMO titles to come out this year. What else is there? I can't stand crappy FTP junk like Neverwinter and I'm burned out on GW2. I've played every major MMO out there and the problem is, once I've got a max level character there's nothing left to do but grind. I like new MMOs mostly for the new quests/content.
I'm skipping TESO, Wildstar and the two Everquest games coming out. I don't like the way the MMO industy is heading. It's going the wrong way.
Probably so.
But those playing games like WoW, a new expansion is going to be costly if they have more than one game. I rather put that money in a long established game, than risk it on new games without a history of fixes and patches (let alone player interest for the long haul).
The more I read and see about ESO, the more I like it. Definitely think it has some good potential. Wildstar on the other hand, I have no interest in. Just watched the gameplay vid that was posted on Massively today: http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/02/19/heres-25-minutes-of-wildstar-exile-adventure-gameplay/ It looks like a poor man's Allods, which itself is a poor man's WoW. I have no idea why some people are saying that they think it will impact WoW's sub numbers.
Skipping both, not interested in wildstar at all, and cant justify buying a game that paywalls an entire race and lets you play on any faction with any race if you preorder to begin with, that'll bring some pride? /sarcasm.
Will be playing Renegade X, CS:GO, Dayz, PS4 games, and hopefully maybe pretty please GTA V PC?
Only MMO remotely interesting is EQNext which is still a long way away, 2015 mid-late if we're lucky for at least an alpha/beta.
Originally posted by simsalabim77 I seriously can not stop playing Marvel Heroes to the point that I haven't even thought about playing an MMO in weeks.
That's my current addiction as well.
ESO just doesn't appeal to me on any level. I don't know enough about Wildstar, but I don't get the impression it's much of an improvement over what's already put there. If I return to MMOs it will be for WOW or maybe SWTOR to level a rebel class as the inquisitor story was a lot of fun.
The age of box price plus subs is ending I'm afraid, and new MMOs latching onto that model are likely in for stormy weather.
Wildstar for sure. I hated the cartoony graphics, but the game looks so polished and fun. The more I watch/read the more the art style grows on me. Now I enjoy the humor and feel they're going for.
ESO maybe...I will be waiting til post launch to watch, read and hear more about what it is like. I played the beta and MEH.
ESO has an IP to sell boxes off of but WIldstar doesn't. Wildstar's got something to prove and it looks great.

I am sure you already know this but you will be for sure the minority in this, by far the majority will be playing one or the other if not long term, short term without a doubt. I will be playign both btw.

Are you kidding?
You think the majority of people that visit here are definitely playing one or both of these MMOs? You can't go by polls posted in the subforum of a specific game.

Are they paying hypers per post count, now? Or by how many times mentioning the game title?
They may claim it'll hurt WoW because, unlike other titles, some ex-Blizzard employees are making it. But with Blizzard updating graphics each expansion, even the newest of new looking games (like Wildstar and EQN) will look outdated to WoW now.
It comes down to this: devs came too late. WoW is now almost 10 years old (how much do folks want to bet WoD to be released in November to match the 10th anniversary date???).
I've been happily playing Eve for the past 8 months and I don't foresee stopping in the near future. If I suddenly feel the urge to play a themepark MMO again I can always go and check what's new with GW2.
Will be skipping both games, Wildstar was never a contender though, graphically it represents just about everything i've come to hate about overly cartoonified graphics, just cannot bear to even look at them any more. Was in two minds about ESO, but the more i learned about the game, the less interested i became in it, i don't think the game really belongs in the TES series of games, its not elder scrolls imo, the PvP looks okay, even fun, and graphically the game is good enough, but from the PvE standpoint, the game is severely lacking. Luckily these are just 2 of the games out this year, and not the best ones either, so fingers crossed for the other upcoming games, despite these two, it probably will be a good year for MMO's
Ah, the sadness to see people with the child like mentality "Wildstar looks kiddie, and its totally wow like cause everything looks that way to me, I'm skipping!" deal in this thread. At the very least it doesn't seem to many are calling that out on ESO.... though I've seen some call it a wow clone which makes me embarrassed to have to admit I'm an MMO player like them. >.<
None the less, ESO i am skipping easily. Its pvp is actually interesting, but TES was never a great series for me to play to start with as the combat system was bleh, and ESO continues that issue with a far less polished TES experience. If it wasn't for the PvP looking interesting, the game wouldn't have anything in its favor I feel unless your a person who can deal with a cheap TES experience.
Wildstar just is an amazing step in the right direction. The game really does a good job of both pulling off action combat as well as making it 'casual' enough to bring in more people. Its not easy by any means but given they do a good job delivering content and giving casuals and hardcore players things to do, I really feel it can do great. It pulls off its art style really well and will look relavent quite a long while, much like wow did with its own version of stylized graphics (there you go, I mentioned wow for those who can't stop mentioning it). Its quests have that Everquest (EVERQUEST, that game that Wow took a majority of its general game design elements from) design giving that somewhat dialog feel, and just end up being pulled off in a way that helps to make them feel more robust and different from the usual grind, combined with the combat system it makes it feel like a new experience.
Its not perfect by any means, but those without the mentality of "omg cartoony totally makes it kiddy! I can't play that it will make me look like a kid" I think it will provide a lot of entertainment. I'll even go so far as to claim it is Guild wars 2 (*cringe*) done right. Over-all its about providing enough entertainment to keep people coming back, as typically our attention span of gamers now is quite thin as we only stay entertained through nostaligia (aka why people still play wow despite its rather horrible design choices as of late) or just constantly having new things added at a rate that is near impossible for developers to pull off, particularly with the mentality "Everyone should experience every bit of content" thinking that has caused a lot of the damage to WoW in losing so many people.
The graphics for Wildstar kill it for me, just like WoW, just like SWG. Crappy graphics really are a deal breaker for me. I need an immersive virtual world I can lose myself in for a few hours. Not a kiddie video game.
For ESO, I really did not like the combat. Its so awkward and has no feel of impact. It doesn't feel like...combat. Its just "whiff, whiff, whiff...whiff" oh it died..... And while many will argue that all MMOs are like this, something with ESO's presentation makes it more jarring.
I decided to get the EQN: Landmark trailblazer pack, now I do not have any interest in Wildstar or ESO. I also lost interest in ArcheAge. The only other game on my radar is Black Desert.
I will definitely not be playing Wildstar. I just do not like the game at all. From what I have seen and heard, the quests look and feel very boring. And for the love of God, get rid of the chat bubble speech for quests. Are we back in the 1980's? I do not call the game " childish" , but the cartoony graphics are very annoying. The other problem I have with Wildstar, is the avatars are so damn small. That is where Rift went wrong, in my opinion.
As far as ESO, I will most definitely be playing the game. Although I wasn't happy with the CE Edition including a race and race unlocks, the rest of what ESO is offering is too good to pass up. This game will be around for a long time. Don't hold your breath for ESO to go FTP. It's not happening, IMO.
Skipping ESO myself, there is nothing to see there.
Wildstar pretty much has exactly what WoW has, but in sci-fi. So I guess if it was released 10 years ago it would be a major competitor, however in 2014, I can't say its bad, as WoW is still the unrivaled MMO champ, and its the closest game yet. It's fun for sure, but I don't know, been there done that you know?
I am either going to play Wildstar for a year or Warlords of Draenor for a year, until EQNext comes out. That is the MMO I am really hoping will be the next big one.
Granted it's partly my seething hatred towards NCSoft that's coloring my choices there, but even if they weren't involved I don't think I'd go for Wildstar - it just doesn't appeal to me.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

I read more then one forums, and most that I can see are all for trying these games out. Most people are not happy with the current style that is provided ( themepark) and want a change is any direction which these two offer.
Elder scrolls series strength is its single player, I don't see that translating well to an MMO. Wildstar from original video to what actually is in the game is quite dissapointing so its a pass from me.

I am.
A friend of mine got me the Beta keys and I tried both games and then I told him he had saved me 50 bucks on each game.
Gonna pass these two mediocre games.
