Vendor Trash and why you might be having a difficult time playing in ESO. [You're going to want to r

jdnycjdnyc Member UncommonPosts: 1,643

Scenario:

You just received a two handed axe, but the two handed sword you have is better.

What do you do with two handed axe?

A)  Sell to Vendor.

B)  Give to guildmate.

C)  Don't pick it up because you don't need that crap in your inventory.

D)  Take it to the Blacksmith, break it down for materials and make a better two hander.

ESO is option D.  That's right.  That white gear you get isn't automatically vendor trash.

Those items can be broken down into materials.  You can make those materials into weapons and armor that you can actually use.  This includes researching and breaking down items with traits.  You can apply these traits to stuff you make to give you weapons and armor bonuses.

Now how does this affect having a difficult time playing the game?  If you're having a problem killing a quest mob, check your gear.  There might be a good chance you're under geared.  Doing the quests alone won't give you enough gear to advance for progression.  You either have to buy gear, make it or have someone make it for you.  It's that simple.

Crafting matters a lot in this game.  And those items you're selling for Vendor Trash matter too.

I don't understand the problem you seem to have with ESO. How does this make the game difficult to play? Don't craft if you don't like to and buy your gear.

You know what I hate?  Wait.....hate is too strong a word, sorry.  You know what I really dislike?  It's when I go a whole weekend selling, and/or breaking my stuff down before I learn how research works only to have Mr. "I gotta be the one to tell the world how smart I am" to come onto the forums and tell all the idiots who might have taken months to figure this out what the deal is :P

People like you are messing it up for everybody dude :)

hehe  I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say.

I think he does not mean that it makes the game difficult to play, but if you're into crafting then you will have some difficulties at the beginning due to limited inventory space. As crafter you will want to keep as many item drops as possible to have more ressources available.

I like this feature. It reminds me of DAoC where you could simply salvage item drops for raw materials.

I think they'll do something about itemization though, gear seems to be too rare at the moment. I've been running around with white and green gear while leveling up to 15. It seems really hard to have multiple blue items. That said I did get a blue crafting ingridient from breaking down a white item. Was doing some research on that yesterday.

In the public dungeon system there is a glitch taht makes some of the bosses respawn every 4 second, so you can loot a lot of white junk I teleported back and forth to break down hundreds of items and after about 500 items I eventually got 1 blue crafting item. You need 5 blue items to create a blue item with 100% chance though. I tried with the one 20% one and it failed.

In addition to what the OP said, any looted or crafted "white" item that you find in the world can be upgraded to a "green" quality (or green to blue, blue to purple, etc.) by an appropriate crafter who has the required upgrade materials.

All looted or crafted items without an enchantment can also be enchanted by anyone, simply by applying an enchanting rune. No skill required ! No "socket" or "slot" needed on the item !

Any loot item with a trait on it will be sought after by crafters (regardless of its quality), because there are a HEAP of traits to research (around 8 per weapon or armour piece). Some traits will become more sought after and valuable than others.

The fact that any weapon or armour piece can be broken down for materials makes it valuable to crafters, but what makes any loot item really valuable is the fact that you could get upgrade materials from the breakdown process.

Sell your loot to players via your guild shops, don't waste it on NPC's !!

Of course upgrading can come at a cost :)  Best to have 5 mats before you upgrade to make it 100%.

This actually leads me to another question. Is there a way to expand your inventory? I didn't get that far in the betas on purpose. However, I did fill up those 50 slots quickly!

Yep.  There's a vendor that you can pay to do it in increments of 10.

Costs go up significantly of course as you keep buying increments.

Yes you can buy upgraded bags from a bag vendor gives you 10 extra spaces a pop first i think cost 400 second 2000 and so on.

You can do the same with bank space first extra 10 is 200 i think it was and so on.

The 1st bank upgrade is 1K to give 10 slots and the 2nd is 3300 which presumably the same number of slots. (I didn't upgrade the 2nd).

Also your horse has the option (apparently) to upgrade bag space, stamina or base speed once every 24 hours after you feed him/her/it.

could have sworn it was cheaper to upgrade bank but wont argue was awhile since i did it and yes the second on is 10 slots to.

U can own multiple horses so you can have 1 bag, 1 speed and 1 stamina horse. you can only have 1 active at the time tho exchange at any horse vendor.

    Create a Guild.

A guild with ten players in it has a 1000 slot guild bank.

    It is free.

I assume that is 10 unique accounts rather than 10 'characters'?

Another oddity that I noticed but forgot to test was that quest rewards say 'Bind on Equip' in the upper right. Does this mean they are tradeable to other characters via the bank (your characters) or even saleable to other players?

In either case, it seems to me that it would be a bad idea in general. Drops, fine. Quest rewards, not so much.

Thanks for the tips. I've been selling my white gear all this time lol.

I haven't tried crafting as it'll get tedious. I do tedious thing at launch.

Not exactly. blacksmith takes forever to level, compared to other crafting skills. so dont expect you can really craft your own heavy armor or metal weapons higher than around 15 level. Unless you spend alot of time collecting ores, I mean really A LOT . my alc and provisioning was 13 while my blacksmith was 8, and i spent much more time on blacksmith than other crafting skills.

I found Ore to be the easiest to spot and my metal, weapons drops outnumbered all other types combined.
That said, I was focusing on an Archer wood elf and while I had to question the validity of my crab leather armor.. I did manage to get full sets made and had much of the skills unlocked in short time.

You only have to get your blacksmithing to level 5 to craft level 15 weapons, it's the metalwork perk that directly determines what you can craft with not the crafting level.

This actually make good items more valuable but random trash worth while with a bit of random great drop.

What good was from white items in WOW at lvl 90 that cost 2 gold ? while every one has like 60k or 100k ?

this way is much more intersting and if you don't like it don't play I'm sure there are pleanty of people like me who a wiling to pay and play the game
