I live in Barrow Alaska. I have a high ping no matter what i do, my internet is decent but it is bottle-necked and i will always have a high ping.
I am very competitive in WvW in GW2 and my high ping does not seem to affect me in that game.
I am not going to participate in any of the betas for this game because of the bandwidth costs in downloading the client (would not be an issue if i knew the beta client was going to be compatible for release).
So i am very curious if i will have issues with AvA (ESO's version of RvR). I am hoping that since i am fine in GW2 i will be fine in ESO, but i have read there are extreme lag spikes, and i am reluctant to pull the trigger on this game if AvA will be out of my reach.
Thanks in advance for any replies to this, much appreciated.

The lag in AvA is all server side...
I'm not really sure what they are doing, but they REALLY need to get it sorted. It's by far the worst thing in the game right now.
The combat in ESO is slower paced than GW2. If your connecting works for GW2 it'll be fine for ESO. Honestly even with a 2-3 second delay from the server the combat is still playable.
I think you'll be fine. Assuming the Massive AvA lag is from stress testing and not ongoing issues(which i have my doubts about).
The last beta was a stress test. The entire game was lagging everywhere. It wasn't related directly to AvA at all. AvA typically doesn't have any lag.
It's called stressing the server. They add in extra variables invisible to the player to put the server under heavy load. There is also a debugger running in the background that gathers all data.
Thanks for all the replies !!
Will make pre-ordering much less painful for me.

As to patching the beta client to the release... almost 100% sure you can do it.
Every MMO as far back as I can remember tells you that you "should" uninstall the beta and then DL the release client and install it... and every one of them has been just fine when I ignored that and just patched.

I have not played GW2. I will say that even with the debugger and lag spikes during a stress test on inferior equipment, I experienced less "death due to lag" than I did in DAoC or Shadowbane. In both games, most people had to turn off spell effects just to see players, and often turn around and face opposite directions to keep viable. During this stress test I would have long periods of huge battles with zero lag only to lag when everyone on the server, both in pve and pvp, were experiencing it. I have beta tested and played many mmo's with 100+ people on the screen and was amazed with how I didnt have to change my settings in order to play. I have grown to expect lag in large open pvp battles and am surprised with ESO, truly.
(I ran on ultra the entire stress test)
He is correct. You can use the beta client (after patching to live) to play the live game.

Yes. Players do not have to reinstall the game client when The Elder Scrolls Online officially launches. They simply need to patch the client using the ESO launcher.
