Last night I purchased the expansion and started a new crusader.
While I was playing (I started on normal mode) I noticed that my health barely ever went down. Then, during one large battle Iooked at my health as I was sure I was going to need a potion and I was completely full.
I stopped fighting and let the mobs beat on me as I looked to see what was going on. That's when I noticed the "block, block, block" messages I was getting.
Is the Crusader really this powerful? Is it just the lower levels? Is it the difficulty mode? With the Barbarian on normal I was always checking my health.
Or is this some sort of meta change by blizzard?

From my experience, leveling the crusader at expert or master is where its at. Normal usually is extremely easy and faceroll mode, especially if you have paragon ranks. In master difficulty, you actually do take some damage, but the crusader is a) made to be tanky, optionally and b) in an early iteration of balancing, so there will likely be tweaks over the coming weeks or months. The forums often thought he was underpowered, but could be that blizz threw in some last minute buffs at release to make it kick butt a bit more and get more people playing.
After all, its more fun if the new class is a bit more OP than it being too weak and flopping constantly.
I feel it's like that with any class I pick and try normal mode.
No you are gauging this off of what mode and what level? Honestly, way too soon bub.
1) it's Normal.
2) I was playing too and I don't think I blinked on the Skele King. But I don't remember having issues on anything besides my Wiz on that fight.
3) Did you have the skill up that ups your Block ability? Because that thing does help but it ticks down your damage output a bit. You don't kill things fast but you turtle like a champ. ( I think it is the left click starter) Once you switch off that and over to the AOE attacks, its a little more noticible.
4) Too soon to tell.. but what are you balancing against since PvP isn't around. Ultimately, you're playing against yourself.
When I first played Diablo 3 I always took damage at lower levels and at normal mode with both the Barbarian and Demon Hunter. This seems to be a far different experience at "low level" as well as "normal". As the poster above suggest, higher difficulties might be the key though I wonder if i started a barbarian at "normal" if I would run into the same problem.
I suppose I'm suspecting that Blizzard might have made changes that made the game easier. Or else, as someone suggests, maybe the Crusader needs balancing.

Just start a new character on Expert, it's what should be normal
normal = super boring easy
hard = easy
expert = normal

Might just be a defensive thing. I started original D3 on a Monk using sword and shield and my health almost never dropped the first playthrough.
I"m guess I"m going to have to. It really is abyssmally easy which wasn't my experience when I first started the game. Not to say I died all the time but I did take damage.
I literally took my hands off of the keyboard and watched as I was wailed upon and incurred no damage.
Seems odd.

Since the patch this is the way the game is. I have been running hardcore since the changes and normal mode without alll the paragon levels and what not is mind numbingly boring. Before the patch I would agree that even on normal you had to pay a little attention to health bars but not as it is now. I agree with Laserit above on his evaluation because expert seems like it is the new normal. I don't play on less than master for this reason.

huh, that just seems so "silly".
Ok, time to start over again. Thanks all.

I came back a couple of weeks ago to join my lady and some friends and it was a sobering experience when we played it. After some experimentation (and not so friendly advice on this site) we have come to the conclusion that expert is a good starter difficulty for HC before you gear up bit and master feels about right for a non HC game when you factor in paragon levels. As to the crusader being OP, I can't comment because I haven't gotten very far on one but I would agree with others in saying your problem is you are on Normal. Good luck.

Lol Blizzard's way of being politically correct I guess

None, other than to kill Diablo once again and see if you can access Act 5. If that does not work, perhaps try redownloading the game ?
Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.
You make me like charity
No need to start over. Just change the difficulty from the main menu and continue from where you left off.
Why start over?
Just change the difficulty on your current game.
No .. the game has a difficulty setting. At "normal", it is almost like god mode for you to learn your skills with almost no chance of losing.
At Torment 6, you will be killed in seconds (unless you have end-game god gear which no one has yet).
You can try up the difficulty and see for yourself. Playing the game on normal isn't much fun (to me, at least)
My Crusader is currently lvl. 69 and I don't feel they are overpowered at all
As stated already in the thread the difficulty of the game does greatly matter in how it feels, any class is very strong at normal.
At Expert/Torment 1, I am doing just as well as any of the other classes
I very much like the class and finally feel at home with a class, and they do have some very nice things about them, but overpowered isn't one of them
Already 69? You are making a crusader your main?
I did get my wiz to 70 (doing T1) and debating if i should seriously level up my crusader, or gear my wiz first.
As others have said - every class is overpowered on Normal.
On Hard I have died a few times (lol) not paying attention to what I'm standing in, it's pretty tough to die though now that I actually have skills/passive and runes etc. at level 32.
Well I didn't know I could do that!!!! Thanks!!!

Playing through on Hard, had some trouble until I started using the passive which increases resistances. Now I have very few problems, and was thinking of going up to expert.
Conversely, I started my wizard in act 5 on torment 1 (cake for vanilla D3), and have at the time of this writing turned it down to hard. Act 5 is absolutely brutal, even with decent 'endgame' gear for vanilla.

Yeah, as I mentioned, I normally start games on "normal" and after a run through I change the difficulty.
Since this was a new class for me I thought "well, let's just take it slow and see how she flies". I was really shocked when I was taking NO damage. I though "this can't be how this class plays"!
Thanks for the responses all, I will change the difficulty and that should suffice.
