Wow, reading this I thought, "hey! They released Numbers, and it looks good!". Reading further I thought, "Hey!.... What?". Then I thought,"... Stop wasting my time with this speculation and dribble". Finally, I thought, "...". Nice one OP, you got me, now slink away.
It looks like ESO has sold 1.6-3.2 in its pre order sales and first day of sales. In order to find out the full amount of sold copies, we need to see how many people purchased a Digital Copy compared to a Retail Copy of the game. So cast your poll and tell us what copy you bought?
This is false.
Titanfall was the best selling game of the month with far fewer copies sold and that included the copies on the One as well as the PC. Even South Park the Stick of Truth sold more. So the pre-order part is BS.
If ESO topped 1 million, Zenimax would have used that to hype the game right after finding out the numbers which would have been weeks ago.
If you've been paying attention, Knotwood always has to make a post countering any evidence that the game isn't wonderful, great, super, the second coming, etc.
I'm pretty sure he's either paid by the word or paid by the post... because the game very obviously isn't wonderful, great, super, the second coming, etc. He'd have a lot more credibility if he didn't always tap-dance around reality.
Be careful, you can be marked as a "troll" with these kind of posts.
I wonder why people like Knotwood never considered as a troll, since releasing false information about a product is also trolling imho.
Stages of a new mmo: 1) It's just beta. It still has plenty of time before release. 2) It just launched. Give it time. WoW wasn't built in a day. 3) We don't need you anyway. 4) F2P announced. 5)Huge influx of players. 6) Look how much has changed. 7) Cash shop is the only thing developed lately. 8) It has been a long journey and we thank everyone who was part of it. Shutting down in 3 months. (Courtesy of Robokapp.)

Company A reveals sales numbers for their MMO to prove good sales.
Company B reveals sales numbers for their MMO to prove good sales.
Company C reveals sales numbers for their MMO after being forced by investors.
Company D has yet to reveal sales numbers ... nah, I see nothing wrong here.
By most accounts FFXIV sold fairly well but they're a privately held company much like Zen, they have no one to report numbers to. Early on SE/FFXIV:ARR didn't release numbers, they just said "more than expected" to explain the issues they were having.
IF they didn't outsell GW2 or TOR there's no real reason to "brag". WHich is what they're doing when they break records, that was the significance in those cases. Failure to break records is not a failure to sell well.
I hope the humble number if they are indeed humbling, represents that those who don't like themeparks didn't buy one for a change TBH. That would at least show some sort of progress on something overly stagnant in this genre.

While I don't think the topic talking about ESO's failure based on one day of sales is at all accurate, I wouldn't bet money on this thread being accurate either. Assuming five to ten digital copies for every retail copy, and extrapolating from a single day's sales that is itself incomplete data is really stretching things to get any sort of accurate number.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
That must be one of the worst selling AAA MMOs on the market.
Wait, you think there were only 250k sales? I mean maybe there were but I find it extremely hard to believe. Anything is possible of course, I'd still find it hard to believe there are less than at least 700k sales.

If there was 700k in sales. ZOS would have said something.
Seems like most of the stores follow a simple policy these days, if it isn't for a console, F-off.
It's not really a choice if you are a PC gamer, you have to get digital because that's virtually all that's left, or else the PC selection is too small to waste the gas bothering. For example, there are 2 Gamestops around here, and their total amount of space for PC games is about 1m square. Now that's the total of BOTH stores. Hell, even Target and Staples have more space devoted to PC games in any ONE of their stores, but it's all just casual stuff like the multitudes of bejeweled clones, find the hidden object, and similar games. They've all fallen below the critical threshold of gaming.
On the other hand, Steam is wonderful. They provide a ton of stuff, even most of the new releases. Except of course for some stupid companies that run a half-assed exclusive company store. (You know who they are.) On top of that, Steam works. I've heard people complain about Steam DRM, but neither I nor my friends have ever had even the slightest problem with Steams protection. Obviously if your internet sucks, you won't want Digital purchases from anyone. Though I will say the other year when internet was down out here (construction ripped out a major connection) for about 2 weeks, all the games on my Steam account that I had already downloaded worked just fine, except (obviously) for the MMOs.
So basically, many people don't really have much of a choice these days. It's go digital or drool at the ads. The worst part is, the brick & mortar retail stores drove us to it.

The one real selling point of the game was crafting and IMHO The Repopulation blows it out of the water in that respect and Gloria Victis's may also be above it by quite a ways.

Yup, the games that haven't been released yet "blow away the competition" completely.

Until they're released, of course.
Key difference: They're F2P and built for it from the ground up so there's no initial investment so if they aren't what I say they are no harm no foul for me. Have fun saying the same about TESO.
"After how controversial the below was (leaving the original post with this addendum), I emailed VGChartz to ask for an explanation of how they derived the number. Despite it showing ‘Direct Downloads’ as a category, this does not include any direct downloads from Zenimax. It includes all physical copies of the game, preordered or otherwise. I think then this paints a rosier picture, if there were 250K hard units sold and we assume this sales looks anything like other recent download games (where physical copies can be as low as 25% of sales) it points to sales of closer, if not above, 1mm units. Encouraging stuff. I haven’t seen NPD data yet, hopefully that will provide further confirmation."
--------------------------------------
So it's 250K estimated physical units sold, so a distant lower limit to total sales. How much lower? There has to be a huge error margin on that, but a 4:1 multiplier (e.g. 1 million plus) is hardly out of the question. On the other hand, who really knows either way?
I'm sure we'll now see the goalposts being moved...

ESO is barely free to play worthy with all the down time and other crap that has happened tot he game.
It is in no way shape or form subscription worthy thats for sure. Will it charge a sub? obviously. Will people pay it? Undoubtedly. But the only saving grace for those people are that there wont be enough of them left playing the game so with a few thousand people left playing the game might actually run halfway decent.
But yeah someone said it. Why does no one ever talk about the game or the game play? Probably because its just like every other game out there except its scaled back and slowed down so it takes longer to do the same stuff. But it is new. It surely doesnt offer anything actually new, just different. But it really doesnt have much but quests, farming instance bosses, and lagfest PvP. Maybe a little crafting if you can find a spot not infested with bots teleporting around all over the place. Other than that what is there?

I had a lot euro's worth of money cards at one retailer I could spend. This must have been the first time in years I brought a physical copy.

given my choice I would prefer physical copies.
I'd rather download some patches than download an entire game.
