hey all, looking for a game where im not the hero/chosen/one ect just a player in a world, I think thats what i loved about old eq you were just an adventurer, with nothing special about you!
LOTRO? You pretty much are a side person to the main people. Alot of quests you have to get buffed by heroic characters to even be in the same room as some of the bosses.
I'd say the OP should provide a bit more information on what he's actually looking for. That criteria doesn't really explain at all what type of game you're looking for.

Yup, this.
LotRO has all the problems of modern WoW clones and is about as far from EQ as you can get, quest wise.
Well I wouldn't call those games EQ like either.. They are mostly PVP or in wurms case crafting/building games.
All of those games have incredibly deep crafting, especially Eve and Salem.
They're about being a nobody in the world, which was the question. Just making your way on your own.
And Eve is as about PvP as you want it to be.
HE also referenced EQ, which was mainly a PVE adventure game. EQ players aren't exactly known for seeking out PVP at least in my experience. hence the point behind my post.
IF by staying in a station at all times EVE isn't a PVP game sure... Even it's crafting systems are based on competitive goals though.
I set Wurm aside btw because it has a dedicated non PVP community/option... and it's mostly about building.
There are plenty of titles that meet the OP's criteria, the problem is their respective genre's are all over the place. Hence my follow-up above.

sorry i wasn't specific, I'm mainly a pve player not interested in pvp too much. I've done wow, lotro, and other games I like grouping but don't mind soloing. I'd love something with a sense of adventure themepark kinda has me burnt out but if It at least has an interesting skill system I'd be ok. (someone told me secret world was cool) I have GW2 installed but havent really tried it, and have been enjoying ff14 but dont really feel like resubbing for another month.

No harm no foul.. Have you tried SWTOR? it's stories are a little different than the typical you're the chosen one. There are also multiple sides to play from in that story. It's a through and through themepark though, and it doesn't offer much in the way of exploration. But the journey is fun. It's worth the time it takes to DL and with F2P you can experience the best parts of the game. TSW isn't bad either, may be even better than the stories (journey) in SWTOR, it's cheap and b2p so no monthly fee to worry about.
There's little to chose from for PVE that isn't a themepark right now though. I'd say give AOC a shot, but that is certainly a chosen one title.
Eso has a decent skill system, but with all the problems I'd still wait on that one. The story is more or less again a chosen one type of scenario though, only in this case it does account for those others around you somewhat.

If you like it, The Secret World is fun and you are not the chosen one. The Templars pretty much come right out and tell you that, the Illuminati have bets I think on how long you will last and the Dragon people come out and tell you that they are surprised that you lived past a certain mission as they had factored in you getting killed.
