Distopia, The developers Have designed half of the quests to be generic, they are optional fillers, so yes if a person decides to Pick up generic quests then that's their choice. Since there is a shit ton of crafted storylines with voice overs etc then that is patently not generic.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Sorry, but I have really tried and tried to log into this game and play it. But it feels like I am forcing myself through the quest hubs, with the bugged quests that are out there right now (most of them in the zone story lines) you will soon find yourself under-leveled to advance to the next zone.
I honestly feel like I am forcing myself to even click on the shortcut, the servers right now consistently have 'low' pops only a few of them even make it to 'medium' pops during prime time.
I paid $60 bucks for this game and I don't expect it to be bug free but I have yet to run into a zone that isn't full of jacked up quests and mobs you can't agro.
I find it funny when I think back at the amount of crap that SW:ToR was given and this game is on equal par with the bugs and imbalance of classes. But here we are reading articles/reviews of people giving this game 9/10. BS!

Reviews that are disingenuous are not worth a whole bunch.
The issue is the review system itself. When is the last time you logged onto this site and seen a 3/10 review? Everything gets at least a 7.5 + so plus reviews are extremely subjective. In order to truly use a rating system there has to be some sort of gauge, we would need to know what is a 1 and what is a 10. If we don't have that the numbers are just arbitrary.
With that said, I do think Wildstar is one of the better MMOs to come along in quite some time.
Reads more like a "how I spent my Summer vacation" report, than a review. They also use the all too common "fanboy-like" tactic of never issuing a criticism without either presenting it in a dismissive manner, or immediately following it up with something that makes it "not a big deal". Big red flag there.
Also, his statements about why XIV 1.0 received so much hate for its problems while WS doesn't was just so off-mark, I wonder if he even followed XIV 1.0, or is just gleaning what people have said on the web. FFXIV 1.0's problems went far beyond just being "bugs". The game's design, infrastructure, engine... all of it was bad.
Beyond that, to put it simply: Carbine is not SquareEnix. Wildstar is not Final Fantasy. One is a large, established company with a decades long, highly popular franchise. The other is a brand-new studio with their first title. I'd think none of that would require an explanation. But I guess I'd be wrong.
It's also convenient how he never talks about how relatively *little* hate, and how much praise FFXIV 2.0 received. Hmmm.. I wonder why?
He made some really "huh?" worthy remarks, to me.
This bit jumped out at me:
"The first time I thought “Man, this game really has a chance” Was when they introduced me, at level 14, to my house"
Really? 14 levels of content, that he spoke overwhelmingly positive about, and the first time felt that was when he saw his house? Hmmm...
There's also this bit:
"We’ve seen derivatives of this style of combat before in games like TERA and Guild Wars 2."
This may be a bit nit-picky, and it could well just be odd sentence structure, but does that read to anyone else like he's calling TERA and GW2's combat derivative of WS's? That sentence just struck me as odd when I read it.
Anyway... as for the score, it seems to me that, at least with how things tend to work around here, that if he only got to level 20, then he didn't experience enough of the game to form an opinion and hence his remarks on it don't matter. Fans come out of the woodwork, declaring that, when someone gives a negative review based on limited gameplay. Wonder if those same people would hold the same standard to someone praising it?
Hmmm...
Reviews are held to an interesting standard. There's been several games I've tried and within 30 minutes uninstalled. There are some things I won't deal with and that mean an automatic 'no'. I believe it should be no different for a review. You played, you didn't like it, detail why. Of course the reader can bear in mind the time the played, but that doesn't render their opinions invalid. I'm not really a fan of games getting better as they progress. It's one thing to say it'll get deeper, but it shouldn't be less fun out of the gate.

Totally was. It was awesome for the first six months.
GW2 was totally worth 9/10 until you got to level cap which is where the whole game unraveled. The graphics were stunning, the combat system was smooth, the story line was awesome, once you hit max level you did some WvW PvP and then said "now what??".
All the naysayers need to realize that the majority of MMO players (especially the long time ones) are driven by progression, it's what drives us to play. When you take out progression (and I'm not just talking about raids/gear) you demotivate us from continuing to play.
It does say in the title that it's a 'in progress' review so, if he's had fun up until this point, not sure how one can judge that.
I've been playing casually and got a toon to 23. Sure the questing is your run of the mill WoW style, but I think it offers at lot more then even WoW does now, and does it pretty good.
Clearly not perfect, but I would say a 8.5/10 for me 'so far'.

If the game ran better on AMD, I'd have subbed to it. The core gameplay was great, even if it is a little sugary. My only complaint is the UI is so distracting; there's so much going on on screen. It's an 8/10 for me.

Oh totally. I'm driven by exploration and growth. I also love creativity - Wildstar at least makes some strides to satiate the builder in all of us.
