Just considering since Warner Brothers bought them for a lot of money so something new from them should come out in the near future or what do you think?
does anyone believe turbine is capable of making an mmo I know once they were more than capable but I feel that time is long passed. If they do think that they can and make another attempt in the future, I will be very skeptical of it and it will have to be out and extremely successful before I spend any money on it.
On a more serious approach, I don't think so. I admit I'm no WB, so just a guess but I think they bought Turbine just because of LotRO. If you check their gaming portfolio, it contains almost exclusively games which are tied to their IPs and franchises. Probably they just wanted to secure their hold on the IP.
IC is fitting into this line too, since WB has DC.
(ok, that was a funny line... IC - Infinite Crisis, WB - Warner, DC - DC Comics )
edit: maybe f2p had something to do with the purchase as well. Or it's just a consp.theory... but the deal was set after the DDO f2p switch results (and success) started to show, and also the deal was close to the LotRO f2p announcement too... enough for suspecting a conspiracy
Honestly with the shape that their current games line up is in I will be surprised if this company survives the next few years.
WB bought Turbine for their Tolkien license nothing more they could care less if this company is profitable. So I doubt that they are working on anything new at the moment.
Mass layoffs are pretty common for mmo publishers. MMOs can take about a decade in development and need nearly the same amount of development resources post release. Where most video games layoff at release, MMOs tend to layoff after some time has passed after release when its shown certain products are not generating sufficient profit. Its also because less effective staff is not pruned at release. Its more difficult to evaluate each individual developer post release to find the ones who should continue on the team and the ones who should not. Usually this is done in a mass round in order not to alienate certain developers, paint developers in a bad light for future job prospects, and have a lower margin for error.

the question that poster was responding to was "were they working on another project other than IC currently. The observation that lay-offs and an increase in project load rarely go together; is valid imo. The earlier lay-offs were not small, several of the personnel were from different titles and in the middle of large scale feature updates/re-writes that are now dead listed. Not exactly normal production talent ebb/flow
The first thing that came to mind when WB bought Turbine, was during the immense success of the Harry Potter franchise, that they wanted Turbine to start working on a Harry Potter MMO.
But seeing how they screwed up LOTRO the last couple years with a steep decline of players. The last expansion with sweeping changes no one wanted, was the last straw for me.
I sincerly hope Turbine isn´t working on a new MMO.

I feel the same. I've played LotRO for a long time, but I stopped playing a couple of years ago because of boredom - no new group content being the main reason for it, and other small changes (lack of raid locks meaning raids reward far less seals than before, meaning you'd have to run a lot of raids to get raid armour - at least it was like that when I quit).
The news coming from Turbine don't make me believe they have the resources to make a new MMO. And even if they are making a new one, I'd be wary of it given the direction LotRO is heading.
The WB acquisition of Turbine happened ages ago at this point (5 yearS?). They're not currently working on or planning any MMO's now or in the near future. I have a family member pretty high up there.
And yeah actually Infinite Crisis is their only title currently in development despite posters suggesting otherwise. They currently have 2 live MMO services to keep updated along with the IC in development. They've got their hands full without working on any more titles.

I would bet that they have internal discussions about branching out to other types of online games too.
Originally posted by Horusra Turbine was always 2nd class company since they screwed up with AC2.
They almost made up for it with Middle Earth Online, then they scrapped that literally months before beta, and remade it into a soulless WoW clone, and called it LotRO.

So no remake of their first MMO? Well thats a bit disappointing I would have loved to try it with modern graphics.
Maybe if EverQuest Next becomes successful they will do it.

They did that already it's called Lord of The Rings Online....
AC1== Sandbox
AC2==Sandpark
AC3== canceled and replaced by THEMEPARK Lord Of The Rings Online. What a coincidence ...
AC3 was heading the way of Themepark design if you follow the patterns of the past two games..
Thats why im glad they havnt made a AC3 yet because it would of just been another trash themepark.
But we are ready to move past these themepark games and get back to real MMOs again, we are ready for AC3. But are THEY ready to make it and make it good ?
probably not since all the original AC devs are gone.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Which however is not their only project..

Of course, any developer worth their salt is working on a F2P-moba at the moment !
Given that nobody could crack WoW's sub-based themepark success, what's the most lucrative genre outside of that ? LoL springs to mind instantly...
After the moba-wave, I suppose we'll be seeing a tsunami of "World of Tanks" clones...
Yep, they've made IC... lol.

Considering how badly they and Mickysoft messed up Asherons Call 2, perhaps we should be thankful... ^^
I loved AC1. But AC2 went in an entirely different direction.
i doubt Turbine has a another unknown mmo being worked on
considering they had layoffs earlier this year

Or ARPGs .. after D3, TL2, PoE, Van Helsing ... and Sacred 3 soon ... there seems to be a revival.
Or big seamless online game like Watchdog, Destiny & Division.
May be classical MMORPGs have run its course and few are investing big money in them anymore.
