Makes you wonder why so many people obsess over games going f2p. Are you going to to play the game if it is f2p. Is 9 bucks a month so much if you actually enjoy the game? I really hope eso never goes f2p.

The new reality is YES 9 bucks a month CAN be a lot for some... That's the sad true... Business models need to adapt to the new reality or focus on the 1% that has 50% of the world wealth only...
I would play this game again if it was not so hard for me to heal in it. My reaction time sucks. Feel awful because I probably contributed albeit minutely to the population decline.
Agreed. It's almost always the bitter SWG vets or sandbox enthusiasts who start being nasty when a themepark game shows signs of population issues. WoW players rarely show up to mock anything, probably because they're too busy playing and enjoying WoW.
They're too occupied with their Barrens chat to bother with this site.
Still technically counts as being busy "playing and enjoying WoW" in a way (if you believe socializing in an MMO = playing it). Chilling in Barrens chat is oftentimes hypothetically better than chilling in an actual barren chat or game, for example.
Yeah, it's all good.
And a lot of them are busy making songs and videos about WoW, or Youtubing the ones others made. All the joking aside, WoW doesn't have such a bad community.
If you keep it in your guild, yes, go outside of the guild, it gets vile
Why does an MMO have to be either free to play or subscription based..whats wrong with just paying once for the content and then paying again for any expansions....whats wrong with this old fashioned way of paying for games....???
The game is on a very steep downward spiral. In the EU there are only 2-3 severs that can sustain ONE 40-man raiding guild each. It's retarded. The population levels are similar to TSW I'd say, which is abysmal for the time Carbine has gobbled up developing it and the money spend promoting it.
If you just look at their streams/posts/etc. you get this "hm, these devs are quite goofy" and that is actuall 110% true. Most of them are utter crap, and can't even develop mildly complex systems that work and have retarded ideas (when they have them).
I loved the game before it came out, and when I started raiding. Once you clear the 20-man raid, you realize that the game has ZERO else to offer, since the population can't sustain a 40-man raiding guild easily.
Crap lore (the worst I've seen in a while), ultra-linear leveling (1 choice after the starting zone), Instanced housing makes for boring social activities, pointless dungeons (once u are raiding), and only ONE accessible raid (to 99.99999% of the guilds). Even the combat becomes boring fast, since almost all classes spam the same 1 ability 50% of the time (then a mix of 1-3 other) = Stay away from Wildstar! Even if u like raiding!
Originally posted by delta9 well this game didnt appeal to me and it seems it hasnt appealed to many others too - it is about time companies stopped just trying to emulate wow and actually push the genre in other directions (ideally open world sand box)
I'm not sure if a true open world sandbox MMO will ever be popular because it needs PvP for it to function and balance the game. Not many people like pvp as it causes friction and promotes the less savory elements of online gaming.
Sandbox games without a real element of risk or competition will be a waste of time. There are sandbox games out there and they hardly set the world alight. Yes MMOs need something new, but I'm not sure that sanbox and open world is the answer.
However, I do agree that WildStar is too old fashioned, to much of the same old formula with a higher difficulty setting. They may have been unfortunate on their timing. Five years ago this would of been a sucess, but they missed the boat.
Per Ghostcrawler from Blizzard all those years ago when asked about WoW raiding changes:
"Most of whom never had a chance to finish a raid. They didn’t get to see some of the best art in the game, hear the unique music or voice over, or in many cases even see the villain at the end of their quest line. From a production POV, instances are very expensive. It seems an odd choice to lavish all that attention on such a tiny percent of the player base. At the same time, we know there are players who love a challenge and are willing to do almost anything to beat a raid-destroying boss provided they also have a shot at the best loot. They don’t want the instances to be over too soon. They like banging their head against the wall. And so hard modes were born. We tested the water a little with Obsidian Sanctum. We’re going full bore with Ulduar."
Like I tell people, Blizzard doesn't make their decisions because they want to ruin MMO's or piss off gamers, they do it because they have access to the numbers. And the numbers show that 40 man raids were not worth developing because it doesn't match what the playerbase can do/does.
Way too easy at start. Have to be harder so i will want to tear it apart with my teeth. Now my 6 year old son can play this game. I want this game to be balanced so when i fight mob on my lvl with quest gear i'm done with 40% health and mana so i know there is place for me to improowe my gamestyle. Games now are damn to easy. Sorry for my writing

Just going F2P is not going to solve any problems IMO. Sure you will get more players on a server. But they will be playing your standard themepark MMO. How many of them will end up in high level guilds doing 40 man raids? Not many is my guess. Anybody who was truly interested in this type of gameplay would not be put off by the sub payment. I think Carbine was just way too optomistic about the popularity of high level raiding. Looking at WoW and saying yea, we can do that better!!....was a big mistake.
They definitely need to merge servers though. Its obviously a niche game, and the best option IMO, is to group all those niche players together and let them go head to head.

carbine wants to deliver harcore content> give us a megaserver to round up players.
it shouldnt be so difficult.

recruiting in WS is a nightmare....ppl are leaving u cant recruit fast enough to keep the raid going....
WS is a DISASTER
It feels like Wildstar only released not that long ago yet they are already talking about addressing low population servers?
I somehow feel internet vindicated by my decision not to play this title past beta
Finally..
i have two characters stuck on low pop servers. The reason i cancelled my sub.
