In life, the strong learn to adapt to their surroundings, they don't ask their surrounding to adapt to them.

But these are just games, go play something else then, plenty of folks will enjoy AA regardless of any  perceived shortcomings.

I'll adapt by not playing. I have absolutely no intention of trying to learn to control the camera backwards after being used to playing with the right config for so long

Edit: It's a really really weird thing to mess up though, what's up with that?

Er from where I sit, you are playing it backwards, and I've been playing with the right config for years.

But I would adapt either way, I can even play games that are click to move.  image

I really don't get this attitude. I was always an "invert mouse" guy (since playing Quake) until I played Age of Wushu which had no such option. I hated it for about a day and now I never need to invert again. Just deal with it and your gaming life will be so much better.
  • Loke666Loke666 Member EpicPosts: 21,441

You could invert the mouse in your mouse software, at least if you have a logitec mouse....

Then again, that would make pointing and clicking a bit annoying of course, and adding the function isn't very hard so take it up on the official forum.

I know we won't agree on the right vs wrong way, that's why I added the ;)

Noninverted is just totally unnatural to me though.

And click to move is a completely different concept. Different control schemes/setups, no problem. Same control setup with opposite things happening from what I've always played with, big problem

    No thanks

Actually, looking at the official forums, people have been asking for it all through alpha and beta. It seems the devs aren't interested in having the option ingame, they even removed the code for it from the engine code (according to official forums...)

I did find a player-invented workaround involving a "joke-program" for inverting x and y axis and Autohotkey, but it's not working ingame for me.

That's as far as I'm willing to go to work around the issue. No relearning hand-eye coordination tyvm

Defending a game over NOT having a useful feature is just silly fanboism.

I dunno... if that state was normal, it wouldn't be the "inverted" state, no?

Whatever the case, if it helps, think of the mouse as controlling your eyes instead of controlling a stick jammed in the back of your head. It might make it easier for you in games don't don't support the alternate controls.

It's funny, cause when I play using a pad on my PS4, I use "inverted" option, while with mouse/keyboard I play with standard.

lm downloading AA now, l figure l will try for a day to play without Y-invert, ld like to learn to not use it.

lf l cant adapt, l will try that mod that lets you invert mouse and play in borderless window mode. lf that doesnt work l will try changing my mouse settings.

When you look up does your head move forward or backward?

This is unheard of in MMO history to not have something that farking simple in the options.

What a silly comment.  In the development world, developers adapt to their customer's needs, whether it's for the colorblind, or any other disablity.  This is what separates amateurs from pros.

    It's a bad troll.

If this game is serious about being successful in the west, they need to cater to their customers.

There is so much competition that something like this will sway a lot of people off the game and onto another game.

Pretty arrogant and lazy from the devs IMHO

Been waiting for almost 2 hours now trying to get to Character Creation so I haven't played yet but it does seem to be silly in a game that has flying mechanics not to have an invert mouse setup, at least when you are in flight. Of course it would be turned off when not in flight. I really don't think that is asking a lot. Seems pretty standard to me.

The vitriol the OP is getting over wanting standard flight mechanics in a game with flight is strange.

    Truth.

I remember a time when every new game seemed to have a unique control scheme that we had to learn. Kids today melt down if they have to learn the smallest thing (all the while complaining that every game is a 'clone')

Better question, why do you post it here and not at AA official forums? This is not even an AA fansite. Or hatesite, probably.

I've adapted to all kinds of crazy assed UI systems that totally sucked. I got used to them. But this is 2014. Pretty much the WSAD standard for PC gaming is used which is what I adapted to. I used to play doom with the arrow keys and no mouse!

Bottom line is whoever is the person in charge of the design of the game stayed nice and tucked away in their little shell of a life in and didn't listen to feedback.

I can see posts of people asking for the inverted mouse over 6 months ago.

This is the story of two sailors that crashed their ship and ended up in the desert island.

The island had enough food for both sailors to live a full life, most of the food being coconuts and bananas. But one of the sailors didn't like coconuts, so he always ate bananas. The other sailor liked both things, so he ate both without distinction. After a few years, however, the bananas ran out, and there was only coconuts left. So the banana loving sailor said "Bah, I'm not a coconut-muncher. I refuse to adapt. If I don't find any more bananas, I'll just die, I don't care".

A few days after, the banana loving sailor died. The other sailor just shrugged "more coconuts for me".

    The end.

My opinion is my own. I respect all other opinions and views equally, but keep in mind that my opinion will always be the best for me. That's why it's my opinion.

Good thing there are plenty of other islands that DO have plenty of bananas. Everyone who likes Bananas will go to those islands and only coconut lovers will be left on yours.

No inverted mouse, no chance at getting any of my money.   To me it's a sign of a poor design ethos, that will only lead to discovering other little things where they didn't deign to do the work.

I've certainly kicked better games than ArcheAge to the curb for poorly done user interfaces.   No matter how good your game is, if you make every moment of it irritating, from a mechanical perspective, not going to do it.   There are decades of twitch training here, and you are foolish to think anyone should change all their other games just because you couldn't be bothered to implement a simple, easilly configurable UI.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Precisely.  If they can't fix this obvious problem that has been noted since early alpha, then (all) players of this game are in for a rough stretch.  When I first started gaming with a mouse, every game was either a flight simulator or "doom clone" with inverted mouse by default.  I've had 20+ years of this style of mouse look.  That said, I am toughing it out to investigate the game (still trying to see how sandboxy it really is).  But this decision to ignore inverted mouse look is a serious warning shot and best case scenario it is a sign that they don't give a darn about fixing problems. That can at least be corrected.  Worst case scenario is that they are powerless to fix this.  Although this particular problem may not affect everyone, you can be sure that sooner or later something will.  And they will address your problem just the same as this one.
