As the title states , it dawned on me late last night. I know it's a simple thing but think about it. You have to search and memorise the world space. Makes your say first 20 -30 visits to each location fairly fresh and then you might stumble upon somewhere new from time to time. So there you have it , such a simple idea but in reality it has and will prolong Destiny's life.
O and one side note I wish you could lock items , so you don't accidently dismantle you best ones.

Good point.
I had missed the point that there is no mini-map.
Being able to put a lock on items - yes. Have you provided feedback - you may already have done so; feedback gear maybe. You never know whether it will be read but might. And maybe they read these forums !!!
I have to agree with you OP.
Destiny is certainly more realistic this way. Also, Destiny planets are kind of wierd. They seem small and repetitive but somehow quests always guide me to new and unseen places. I imagine if there was map with mini-map, there would be even more trashing of the game because of how small the planets are.
My fondest memories of WoW were when I was playing vanilla with no addons and I had to read quest text and look at map in order to find my quest locations. Quest helper and other addons killed questing for me in general.
Was same with EverQuest II in the beginning. That you really had to read and figure out where to go.
But the maps in Destiny are huge tho. Especially Russia, Venus and Mars.
The Moon is small on the surface Level, but makes up for it being 3-dimensional, with lot of tunnel complexes underground.
I like there is no map, tho you can find them online if you want to. It gives that sensation of getting lost, not knowing where you actually are.
So What Now?
Yes true!
And just to reinforce the positiveness of having no map!
Today I created a New character to play with my Brother this night (as he just bought the game) and when we reached Level 4 and start doing Exploration (Patrol) mode in Old Russia, we end up discovering a huge Cave in some building that was filled With Level 20 mobs! We got smoked!
I am Level 20 now on my main character and I never knew it was there, as I hadn't discovered it yet, eventho spending night after night patrolling and exploring Old Russia.
Just goes to show how awesome this game is and how massive and intriguiging the maps are with lots to discover.
If you had a map from the get go, like in MMO's. It basically just kills any suprise and sense of exploration really.
So I have now found a New Level 20 patrol area in Old Russia for my Level 20 Titan to check out tomorrow! :-)
Wait wait, there's a DESTINY board, but no PRoject Gorgon board? Cone on admins...
As for the map thing. If anything should be copied from Destiny, it's that. Mini maps ruined a surprising amount of features and feel from early MMOs. Most don't even realize it because we've gotten used to them. Any MMO without them is gold to me.
No map? sounds awesome loved that about Mortal Online.
No Minimap? Even better! i have always hated minimaps in games and never understood them (even thought i guess Sci-Fi game could perhaps justify having such thing) in PvP it becomes a pain when you can't ambush or get ambushed by anyone because you can just check minimap that you are about to get attacked, i don't really see the fun in that.
Destiny sounds better and better, it has aim based combat all it needs for me to enjoy the hell out of it is PvP that does not force people into teams, perhaps some big zones that people can go gather resources and fight over them or territory control or then just go and kill people if you feel like it, maybe someday.
Lots of replies nice one. Yeah it's the exploration value as someone said . It really makes the game reasonably unique in a FPS or any game recently. The only downside I found today was exhaustion zones but meh on the moon so no biggie glad I didn't find that out when i was doing my 9000 xp without death mission, after flying over a cliff at 6000 and then almost dying the second go on it .
Oh as to the no mini map we do have an Alien style bleep mini map and various symbols with pointers on the open areas if you get your ghost out briefly, but other than that there's nothing. That's PVE though , so not sure about the PVP bleep map.
