I've been thinking about a new topic to start, but after 6 deletes I release I haven allready made them or someone else have, most things have been talked to death multiple times, I really tried to think up a topic to start something but it were in vain.
I guess It's the same with MMORPG, been there done it.
So what now?
If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

Funny you say that, I was just reading an article about the Titan cancellation and it mentioned how MMORPG's seem to be waning in popularity as MOBA's and other games are gaining a larger fanbase.
I don't think its related. There's a lot of MMO fans currently not playing anything because there hasn't been a game that appeals to them.
From a serious themepark players POV I have basically two real options right now- WoW or FFXIV. As a Sandbox fan I have what....EVE for the last how many years? Archeage really doesn't count.
Me personally, I'm extremely happy with FFXIV as my themepark. I'd like to see a good sandbox though preferably in the fantasy setting.

Junk is junk, no matter what we are talking about. There hasn't been a decent MMORPG release, since EvE. Any industry that goes through such a long period of time without a decent production is going to be seen as waning. That is besides the point that MMORPGs are really a hardcore subset of online multiplayer games.
I've been thinking about checking out FFXIV. Been playing WoW since 2005 so its starting to get old for me, I haven't even been subbed for the last 6 or 7 months.
MMORPGs were fashionable a few years back, even my trendy sister gave WoW a go, and now they aren't. so much.
The funny thing is what has ruined them for the last decade has been the influence of the MOBA junk games that are so popular... Maybe if they had just stayed true to themselves then they would not be in the state they are now.
I hope MMORPGs are becoming niche. Maybe then they will stop attracting the wrong people to make them and be made for the real players, rather than the mainstream casual tourist, because that was when the best games were made.
No offense, but maybe you need to find something better to do with your time than sit on a computer trying to think of topics for this site?
The way I see it, MMORPGs simply failed to mature with their audience. Every time i play a themepark, even one that is fairly well made like FFXIV:ARR, it just lacks a certain sophistication that I'm looking for in my online multiplayer games. Recently I've been looking at pen and paper games and realized that they've been progressing in directions that MMORPGs sorely need to explore themselves.
For instance, a group of players in D&D could play as a group of wizards with no dedicated healers or tanks and still be a viable group setup to tackle challenges. Not only that, but tackling challenges as a group of wizards is genuinely unique from tackling the same challenge as a group of rogues. A common problem in MMORPGs is waiting to get into group content because of not having that one needed role for the group. If developers could get a system to work like D&D does, they could solve that problem for good while also increasing the game's depth.
The only reason I can think of for why a single developer has yet to attempt such a solution is a genuine separation from the roots of MMORPGs. Tabletop pen and paper games are where RPGs got started, so paying attention to their trends and innovations should be an important aspect of development.
I'd highly recommend it to any themepark fans, the game is structured similarly to WoW but outdoes it in every aspect imo. http://www.ffxiv-freetrial.com/us/.

Is it really that hard to come up with a topic that hasn't been discussed before on this forum? I probably did that just yesterday:

If this is an FFXIV thread now, then my verdict is that it has a good crafting system (which is rare in MMORPGs), but mediocre combat (which, alas, is not). The crafting system is good, but not good enough to carry a game that is mostly about combat. And FFXIV is mostly about combat.

That's like your opinion man.
ArcheAge counts in a big way for me - it is the most unique new MMO on the market.
Just goes to show that opinions aren't fact.
EvE at release was junk - a glorified screensaver.
SWTOR has more players than EvE, so which is better?
It's all up to personal preference.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Archeage doesn't really count as a full blown sandbox is what I ment by that.
