Light and heavy attacks in 1.6 are the only practical way to generate ultimate and the weapon attacks have been buffed significantly relative to the abilities. When they multiplied certain things by a factor of 10, they used that as a balance mechanic and multiplied many things by a much smaller factor - weapon damage got the full X10 buff and not manny other things did.
I know that's not what you mean and I'm also one of those who has proposed making everything except the utility skills like dodging, blocking, etc. work off magicka - i.e. just admit that we're all battlemages and be done with it...
But they have other ideas obviously and in all my 1.6 testing all Stamina builds I've tried feel much better than the magicka builds. They will be the FOTM for the foreseeable future.
Hrm...it's very difficult to get the grasp on the changes without experiencing it first hand, buffs and changes you speak of do not seem to be found in patch notes, at least not as explicitely.
I wasn't clear in my last post, the buff for light/heavy attacks was meant as stamina scaling buff, not a flat buff to weapon damage, that would be pointless.
More I think about, more I find to be the issue on my end - I just seek clear distinction for stamina resource = weapon abilities and weapon damage, and magica resource = class abilities.
Someone did a chart on the official forums of what scaled by how much. I'll see if I can find it... but yes, the balance changes are wholesale and many important ones just get one line in the patch notes... for example this one:
Monsters and NPCs will no longer be able to land Critical Hits.
That one came in 1.62 partly in response to all the 7/7 light armor wearers who were getting slaughtered in silver and gold content since the armor provided by light armor is now almost non-existent. You'll see most magicka-based build guides recommend 5/2 using 2 heavy. And some sort of damage shield is 100% required for them now.
And don't forget that soft caps are gone. You can stack magicks and be a glass canon if you want... but I wouldn't recommend it

Its been a while since I have played, but is there a separate key to pick up items from talking to an NPC?
I would hate to get into trouble from 'accidentally' taking something off a counter while trying to talk to an NPC.
You get a very obvious red steal warning but in some cases, depending on item placement you have to be very careful picking up something next to something else that isn't owned.
They've also added the option to not auto-loot stolen items while auto-looting everything else. Just looking at it isn't theft, it has to actually get to your inventory.

The earliest date for 1.6 on live will be the 23rd. It's still in the PTS this week.
March 17th is the start of B2P. If your sub carries over beyond that date you'll get a portion of the 1500 monthly crown sub allotment depending on fraction of a month you have left.
But anyone who bought the game at any time gets 500 crowns + 100 per month subbed automatically added to their account on March 17th. And new players who buy after March 17th get 500 crowns also.

BTW, 23rd of Feb?
Also, I should check how many months I've already had subbed in the past.
The timing on all of this is really bad for me right now.
I'm so freaking busy. In fact, I should be getting some work done right now, since I've been screwing off all weekend. Only going to make things harder for me this week. Oh goody (sarc), Monday is a holiday, so now I have even less time to get things done during the business week.

Quite the opposite - no one is doing much VR content because they're saving it to earn champion points.
And yes, week from tomorrow is the target for 1.6 going live if everything goes well this week and they don't introduce a huge new bug like they did last week in 1.62 with the infinite stacking 2-HD damage buff

Go tot he Tamriel foundry's theorycrafting sections. No one has a solid handle on 1.6 builds yet (especially for sorcerers) but they're experimenting over there.

I don't quite get the scaling thing. What does it mean?
They told us a while back that a change they wanted to make was to increase everything by a factor of 10 to, as they said, give the stats more "ganularity."
But what they've done is not that simple. They've simultaneously re-balanced many things, so that very few things are actually just multiplied times 10.
For example if a piece of light armor currently gives you 100 armor and the same level and slot in heavy gives you 300 in the current live version, under 1.6 the light piece will give you 200 and the heavy piece 1200. not the 1000 and 3000 people were expecting if balancing hadn't also happened at the same time.
If your health, magicka and stamina are currently all 500, when 1.6 goes live they will be 3500, 4500, 4500 respectively, not the 5000 each a simple multiplication will give you.
That's what the list above and the other details in the linked thread tell you... what number different things are actually being multiplied by.
The changes of things relative to each other are pretty drastic but at the lower levels, you actually feel slightly more powerful, not less so - and I'm talking about a comparison using no champion points. It's a different story in post-50 silver and gold content, veteran dungeons and Craglorn PVE - you definitely feel more vulnerable while putting out the same or less DPS compared to live even with 70 champion points spent.

You only start earning champion points after 50 and everyone is starting with a maximum of 70 (5 X completed VR level... counting all VR-level characters capped at 70). The total number of CPs is 3,600. So no, not capped

Has it been stated somewhere that a sub rolling into B2P will only receive a portion of the 1,500 monthly crowns? From the original post by Zenimax, I read that it's a full 1,500 as long as the remaining sub is between 1 and 30 days "less than 30 days", 3,000 between 31 and 60 and so on.
"As a current subscriber: If you are an active subscriber when The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited launches, you will receive 500 crowns for having a game account, plus 100 crowns for each 30-day period you have been an active subscriber. In addition, you'll be automatically enrolled in ESO Plus for the remainder of your subscription period. I stopped playing when update 5 was released because after 3 weeks of testing with Zenimax they couldn't figure out why update 5 caused my PC's FPS to drop from around 60 to 12-20 for 1 1/2 seconds every time I would case my first ability in combat...then it would normalize for the remainder of the fight. They are hopeful that update 6 will get things back to normal for me. Since I'm eventually getting a new PC once Nvidia releases their next high end card (980 ti, Titan 3, who knows), I figured I would just deal with that 1 1/2 second FPS drop and start again once Update 6 is released (hopefully on my bday which is feb 23 :-).
Anyway, I have a Vet 1 Dragonknight mage (staff and heal) and a level 37 Sorcerer tank (one hand/shield and heal). I always went against the templates so I wouldn't be copying everyone else. Do you find that update 6 forces you more back into the class templates to be successful (PVP or PVE), or can you still pretty much choose any class template and be whatever role and still be equally successful. I wasn't having fun on the Vet 1 as much as my level 37 sorcerer tank...the first time I've played a tank in any game. Something about the mix of spells and the getting in close and being so resilient appeals to me for the first time :-).

Your thoughts?
I think there is just as much or more potential for non-FOTM builds now but the balancing changes to just about everything including armor values means that things that worked before may no longer work now. I'm not sure if your Sorc Tank was using light armor, since many do currently, but the worth of heavy armor has increased so much relative to light that you may need to make some adjustments.
Everyone gets a full free respec with 1.6. Animations have gotten a pretty thorough make over and they do seem crisper. Also other things such as inventory management (selling, buying, banking etc.) also seems faster.
The animations of how you hold and attack with different types of weapons in particular, look a lot better now.
If you ignore the music, this is a good video showing the new weapon animations.
