Heck even the ridiculous name as Daybreak studios, shows that they dont give two craps about the studio.
They will get the tech. And run planetside 2. Plus any game that curently makes money. Everything else will be cancelled.
egad people know nothing about business and have zero common sense. Who on earth would lay out cash to buy SOE only to watch the company slowly die by simply collecting the meager revenue old products provide?
you want to make money as a game developer you need to produce products, and ones that are successful aka people buy and subscribe to them. Whether or not they will push out great new titles is yet to be seen, but unless SOE was dumped fire sale style odds are daybreak will not cancel everything and let the company rot on its way to extinction.
So there is a chance you are right but more than likely daybreak will continue to develope, they might run a tighter ship, they might become more EA style or what not, but lets be silly SOE was a corp who most likely had the same goals as daybreak will, and daybreak took over with the beleif they could run things better than SOE was.
The sale and the company it was sold to are hard to spin into positives. The best anyone can hope for is a lack of negatives. Does this mean the cancellation of EQN? Who knows... but if it gets cancelled it won't be for any reason that would make much sense to gamers.
This is all we have for now but seeing how this plays out could break many gamers hearts. SoE has been around about as long as MMOing has been a thing. Gamers have a long memory and they would be advised to watch their step lol
I think Ryahl called it. CN wants the tech, sees the future of mobile and bought the whole thing. They probably couldn't care less about the games element unless it is profitable. My two cents.

The latest planned incarnation is so different from previous versions that this was about the only other thing that could happen to make it farther from the old EQ games. Now it's not even SOE. It will be amazing if the game somehow emerges from this cloud and is anything resembling a PC competent MMORPG. The new company should just sell off the parts and make what money they can from existing IPs and any tech worthwhile.
MMORPG players are often like Hobbits: They don't like Adventures
An investment banker or cooperation will not care about things that much. All they care about is deathlines and investment returns. This will definately lead towards rushed releases and half baked sollutions for upcomming problems. Im pretty sure that this will lead to no good,
Thra are simply not dedicated enough.
This would completely depend if they expect a short term or long term investment. Also how is an investment banker of cooperation different from any other company? My boss did not found his own company to run in debt, but to produce a healthy profitable company. This would expecially be true if the investment company is willing to accept this might be something long term. Actually it seems like a better business model to me for an investment firm. To have multiply companies that are profitable long term instead of doing a cash grab. This is also somethng that Columbus Nova seems to be doing.
Unfortunately "long term investment" and "MMORPG" are no longer possible. All investors feel that F2P mobile is the way to go to make money, and those games make money by releasing, getting a bunch of morons to spend a bunch of money in the first few weeks, and then forgetting about them because they've already made a bunch of money.
The traditional method of releasing a game, and then creating new content to keep people around/playing is DEAD, it will NOT happen again, unless we have some complete collapse of the bubble and then the genre is reborn as some kind of phoenix rising from the ashes.

Ultimately, they could take the current Landmark game and make it EQN. They could reduce 2 different games to one... and reduce costs. Since Landmark is already started they could build EQN into it. Problem solved.

Daybreak has been doing a really good job of making a community out of EQN and Landmark. Creating a game with its fans, spending time with them. Doing weekly stream, giving feedback and answering questions. I have not seen this level of dev interaction in my 16 years of MMOing. Even though EQN will be F2P with a sub option like all their MMOs, the roots have already started and has fan support.
People keep predicting doom for EQN. I'd say it's unlikely that anyone would buy SOE just to cancel one of the only upcoming MMOs with as much preliminary hype behind it as EQN has. Certainly, some investment companies are stupid, but that hardly means they all are. SOE's dumped way too many resources into the game for it to end up canceled now. Might we see changes in policies? Maybe, but an outright cancellation is very unlikely.

Really? where have you been? Its quite common place now for devs and cm to be more active amongst the community when building hype especially in games where you pay before its even anywhere near release

Yeah, a nice little Mom & Pop like Sony will always put profits second to artistic vision....
