I would normally do that, but I have a $50 dollar store credit and the best buy near me doesnt have the 280x. They do have an exclusive best buy version of that card but online only and for $300, but they have pricematch so maybe that might work.

Everything you could get at Best Buy is going to be so overpriced that you're probably best off ignoring the store credit for purposes of buying a video card and going elsewhere.  For example:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202099

$180 before rebate, or $160 after rebate, and much faster than the Radeon R9 270X that you're looking at.  I'm not sure how practical this is, but if you could find some sucker to give you $40 cash for your $50 store credit, then buy that card, you'd come out money ahead in addition to a faster card--and that's even if we ignore the rebate.

How'd you end up with store credit at a Best Buy, anyway?

The entire point of an "exclusive best buy version" is so that if someone tries to price match, they can say it's a different card and the price match is irrelevant.  You could try it, but it's probably a scam.  Especially if they manage to talk you into buying something else that is stupidly overpriced instead.  Such as $200 for a Radeon R9 270X.

I know its "overpriced" but the lifetime warranty and 4 free games makes it worth it to me, I will most likely not be spending a dime of my own money on it anyway. The R9 270x was the best AMD card I remember seeing there, they had a gtx 970,750ti and some other last gen nvidia cards, but no 280-290s, most of their prices match up on newegg except for the ones with warranties and free games, was actually suprised. Also I like the fact that if its DOA, no mail hassle.I would obviously get the 970 if I could, but this card is kinda a gift to me from a friend with a budget.

Also, I got instore credit from them because a tv I got there broke and they gave me money, I got  a new tv on sale with money left over.

In all honestness is the difference in performance in 1080p@60hz that big of a game changer between the two cards?

...so how much do you actually want to spend, $150($200-$50 best buy credit)?

If this is the card at Best Buy you talk about:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/xfx-radeon-r9-270x-2gb-ddr5-pci-express-3-0-graphics-card/2091002.p?id=1219068840893&skuId=2091002

Once $50 credit is deduced, you get a very good price of $130 for the card. Chepeast R9 270x on newegg goes for $170.

    Or you could get:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/xfx-radeon-r9-280-graphic-card-1000-mhz-core-3-gb-ddr5-sdram-pci-express-3-0/1310709522.p?id=mp1310709522&skuId=1310709522

$176 after Best Buy credit deduction.

Essentially R7 270x is bargain and R9 280 for normal price.

The warranty is almost certainly because XFX offers that warranty.  But a lifetime warranty doesn't guarantee that the card will never fail.  Indeed, if it fails far enough into the future that it would have been off warranty with some other vendor and you try to send it in for warranty replacement, you'll have to wait a few weeks without any video card at all, and then likely get back some future, relatively lower end card (not slower than an R9 270X, but performance that costs $200 today will be had for $100 in a few years) that someone else sent in as defective but XFX thinks is fine.

The games are probably because it's an AMD promotion to give free games with their cards.  Buy any AMD card, get some free games.  Nvidia does the same thing, though with different sets of free games.

It's been a while, but I once went through Best Buy's entire web site to see if the had any video card that were a good value for the money.  After checking through every single card they listed--several dozen--I found exactly one that wasn't absurdly overpriced.  And that one was out of stock.
